IF Baldi beats Mayweather....
How will the fabric of boxing be affected?
Discuss.

Re: IF Baldi beats Mayweather....
That's a pretty big IF!
I doubt it would really have any significant impact on the sport. Boxing is always changing, new fighters coming up all the time and replacing others, etc. I would say at most it would affect the fans. To some it would be a big dissapointment, and to others it would be great news.
If he lost I'd like to see him take on Margarito in his next fight. An "L" would bring him closer to margarito's level ;) But also if by some chance he does lose if won't likely affect his career cause you know he'll be back winning. If he does lose It will be as a "fluke" and I'm sure most will view it as just a little bump on his road to greatness...yes, that is the road he travels.

yeh difinately a great point , never thought of that.. hte loss would bring him to margarito's level..
then floyd would have to answer questions ..
n people would be like take on margarito anyone can be beaten eh floyd? so take the fight!!
i dont feel he will loose, but its not to his credit that i say that, i feel even though floyd has faced some great names and looked good , theres a reason he looked good,
because he always picked and chose his opponent so that it wasnt as big a risk as it may have seemed
very smart, but you know how it is, he cant be fooling all boxing fans...
and looking over it all this fight looks the same like baldo cant hang with floyds power etc
so floyd says hes not overlooking carlos, but i dont believe him i think thats the reason he took the fight because the styles fit!...
although i love floyd, im slightly inclined to pull for baldo in this one!?
its just he's beaten two big names, that noone thoughtn he would and he does have a couple things going for him you know, thats why he stopped gatti, the man walks around the wieght of a tank! he'll be at the 147 limit for about ten seconds and by the time floyd gets in the ring with him he'll be a tank with him, and since floyd is a superfeather weight and thats where his power is there and the lightweight division, and with baldo able to take a good shot, floyd might get dropped and rolled over by tank tracks!! lol
in a sentance this is how i feel...
i know that carlos can win, and i am almost certain floyd will win, but im pulling for baldomir! lol

baldozar will be given supreme respect

Re: IF Baldi beats Mayweather....
either pacman or winky wpuld brob be top P4P, and baldo would be given mad respect. there migth be a rematch. and perhaps, for once PBF would shut up.
but it dosent matter cause it wont happen.
-
Re: IF Baldi beats Mayweather....
Too big an IF to really consider!! Ummm,he wouldn't be P4P number 1 anymore and either we SERIOUSLY over rated him or Baldo is seriously UNDER RATED! However,I do NOT see it happening at all! Baldi winning more than 3-4 rounds would surprise me!

Good points.
At some point an exchange is bound to occur and this is, arguably, the first full blown welter he has faced and he does carry the extra poundage and incentive to cause an upset.
It kinda reminds me of Baboa V Creed 1 ! ordinary slugger V the showman / superstar.

lol and plus it is evident that floyd does tend to get silly and exchange with certain fighters,
he got rocked by both corley and zab on at least single occasions.
yeh fair enough he backed to the ropes and all the following punches from both fighters either missed or were glancing, which floyd has his great defensive skills to thank for that. but then again that is zab judah and demarcus corley...
if floyd gets bashed just once by the tank that is baldomir, it might upset floyds composure,
it would also be a very good idea to go to floyd's body, hes never really been tested to the body by a big puncher, especially not that i can recall..
you know i sort of like baldomir, in a way his face and his toughness reminds me of duran,
just a hard bastard with an evil face... lol love it

Re: IF Baldi beats Mayweather....
It would mean that the fight was fix and it will be a black eye for boxing. Let's be realistic, a fix is the only chance Baldomir has of winning.
-
Re: IF Baldi beats Mayweather....
It's not completely unimaginable as many say.
Baldomir is a true Welter...& pretty damned effective of late.
He's on a high that quite possibley can not be side stepped.
Then again...I just don't believe that there is anyone out there to beat Floyd on the horizon.
Not that Floyd's unbeatable...but come on now...this is Floyd.
If Baldo were to win...I'd rather it be him than some other chump contender out there.

Thank God someone finally agreed with me! CC
Honestly I wouldn't be shocked if Baldamir pulled off a win, I would really not be shocked if he did everything but KO Floyd and lost a decision either.
Floyd has to be careful in this one, Carlos can take punches....he took Gatti's and kept coming...he's only been KO'd in ONE fight out of 58 and that was in 1994!!!
-
Re: IF Baldi beats Mayweather....
I don't know how you guys get off saying Baldo. has no chance. A cut, illness or hand injury can competely turn the entire match.

Yes but these factors could happen in any fight. Under ordinary circumstances, presuimg Floyd doesnt suffer some massive freak injury Mayweather will coast this.
If he broke a hand in the first round I'd still pick to win every round with his other.
If his second hand went in the 7th round, Floyd would already have a 6 round lead and could just bob and weave his way to a win, presuming he managed to win one more of the remaining 6, which even with two broken hands I could see him doing.
For me Floyd would have to break both hands and one leg in order for this to be a close fight.
Baldy has been way overrated, he will come down to earth with a bump come next weekend.
-
Re: IF Baldi beats Mayweather....
Baldimir is a good fighter with lots of heart, I think he's better than Margarito but by no means should he be FAVORED over Floyd, I'm just saying Floyd doesn't have Roger in his corner and he doesn't have Roger training him either, he already has that adversity in his camp, he's a great fighter but I won't be shocked if Carlos gives him a really tough time

:coolclick: Heh heh heh.
If Floyd were to lose...it'd be due to his hands, IWO.

Re: IF Baldi beats Mayweather....
The dude has certainly travelled:-
http://boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=007612
England, Denmark, Mexico, Argentina (38 times), USA, germany...even South Africa !!
To make weight, Baldi basically doesn't eat for 3 days but often puts at least 12lb+ come fight night.
Plus all of his 58 fights have been at 147 since he began in 1993...when Floyd was just 15yrs old, so has a lot of experience.
..Floyd fought his first scheduled 10 round fight in his 10th outing.. Baldi fought his first 10 rounder in his 5th fight.
This will be only Floyd's 6th fight above 135lb with his first genuine welter-weight.
I dont believe it will be a walk in the park for Mayweather, as Arturo said after his fight with Baldi "He was just so strong and seemed to be getting even stronger"
-
Re: IF Baldi beats Mayweather....
Alright seriously I have seen this a few times...Now what you see here is a slow predictable Gatti outboxing Baldomir..Gatti was fainting, leaning and making Baldo miss on quite a few occassions...Yes this same Gatti who literally got beat to death by Floyd last year and was getting stuffed in the Body and the mouth before he could even get a punch off...
seriously Folks watch how slow and predictable Baldo is if Gatti can get in and out of there before he was taking shots than Floyd will be sitting in the front row maccen it up to some honey in the front row before Baldo can counter...
Gattis biggest mistake was trying to stand and trade with Baldo..The fight was pretty even until Gatti got Smashed see Gatti was doing fine but he couldnt adjust to the right hand of Baldo and that was his demise..Gatti then went to war like his instincts and crowd urge him to do....Yes Gatti who was relying on mediocre Boxing skills was in a good position to win....
Floyd is just to damn good and I can see Baldo ending up like Coralles just following him around the ring getting buzzed all nite getting Frustrated and not be able to get his punches off Floyd will not stand there he will attack at different angles will counter Carlos all nite Floyd will wear him out he's got the endurance of an ethiopean marathon runner..
Also you forget Floyd's mean streak we think of him as the "Pretty Boy" but he is one ruthless son of a bitch in there...He will rough Baldo up by pushing him, Grinding the forearm under the nose while pushing off during the break, bearing down on the back of Baldo's neck during the break...
The sports biggest Star will put on a virtuoso performance....Floyd wont even have a scratch on his face....

That's a risky strategy though...if it's on point.

IWO, this will not make a difference.
Baldo may be experienced...but he's never experienced anything like Floyd.

The weight is the only thing that could factor in to this fight in Baldo's favor...that & Floyd's brittle hands upside his melon head.

Agreed. It won't be a walk in the park IWO.
The thing is...in boxing...I've seen plenty of smaller men hand the bigger gents their asses.
Floyd is a perfect example of speed over strength.

Agreed. Gatti was pretty much just learning to box & not brawl under the hands of McGirt.
Case in point...against Mayweather...Gatti looked less than one dimensional.
He looked like what he actually is...& no offense Gatti fans...but he's pretty much a journeyman.
Anytime he's stepped up...he's gotten knocked down.
I don't expect Baldo to do the same.

Truthfully...I think that this is what will happen.
Floyd aint gonna take Baldo lightly...not like Judah did. Floyd knows that this is going to be work. He won't come in to play.

To true. Floyd can be pretty ruff on the inside.
What Baldo has to do is develop the mentallity himself. Baldo could really really hurt Floyd in close if he uses his head, elbows, & everything else including his fists. Then again...Castillo tried that in the second fight & lost...so did Corley.

Here's where we disagree on matters of Floyd, finally.
I honestly see this as Floyd's most dangerous fight at 147. He's going to be facing a man with everything to lose & everything to gain. Sure...Floyd gains a lot off of this win...but not as much as Baldo would.
Ruff night & Floyd leaves bloody.

Well you might be right on that one...Do you think a Floyd TKO over Baldy is totally out of the question??? I mean I know anythings possible...But reasonably speaking

Re: IF Baldi beats Mayweather....
Baldomir should be giving the most respect if he can pull that off. However if PBF does lose, he will then be forced to take the hardest fights out there and proove his worth. Im not sure Floyd loosing would be a bad thing actaully thinking about it!
ARRGGGHHHH, Floyd aint going to get beat though!

I think it will put boxing in an even bigger state of confusion.....the one constant right now is PBF...a loss could bring Hatton out for a fight w/PBF....ODLH,SSM,COTTO,insert another fighters name here all could stand to lose mega millions!!!!! A loss in the records will force PBF's hand considerably..he would have to fight everyone....while at the current time an undefeated record affords him the right to pick and choose his career path.....and Baldomir might get a few more big paydays but the limelight will fade soon after...PBF brings so much more to boxing......boxing needs PBF to win almost more than PBF needs to win
-
Re: IF Baldi beats Mayweather....
I really expect FLoyd to put on a clinic and win easily.
Or else outpoint him for six or seven rounds on his way to a win and then be taken out by a kidney punch from which he cannot stand up in time to beat the count.

Re: IF Baldi beats Mayweather....
Boxing doesn't need a man with no respect for anyone including ODLH. Calling out people who have done so much for this sport while jumping around weights is crap. No character and may God have mercy on his soul.

You're right. I just hate this time change and it makes me an angry person. So I get up and decide to take my anger out on someone that is an easy target....

he will not beat Mayweather. If he does then Mayweather had a big breakdown somehow. if Baldomir were to win that would be the loss of Mayweather, but not really the emergence of Baldomir. The story would be Mayweather loses.

How would this not be the emergenge of Baldomir? If (I understand the long shot aspect here believe me)
he somehow wins, that would put him at 3 wins for 2006 beating Judah, Gatti and Mayweather. He would be the
WBC, IBO and IBA welterweight champion of the world and he beat a prime PBF rated as the number 1 p4p on many peoples lists. If he does that, I would have to say he is the fighter of the year. That would even outshine Hatton's spectacular 2005 IMO.

Re: IF Baldi beats Mayweather....
regarding the emergence of Baldomir ... it's all relative. Certainly Tata would emerge to center stage in the current boxing scene; he's almost done that now.
But he will never have the possibility (at least, he probably doesn't have the possibility) - which Floyd certainly has (the possibility, mind you, at least probably) - of emerging to center stage of boxing history in general.

Sorry, I'm not sure what you are talking about. Are you talking about all-time great type thing?

Re: IF Baldi beats Mayweather....
yeah ... Floyd has the possibility of all time greatness. Baldomir has the possibility of being the man to beat for a few months or so, even if he beats Floyd.
Basically, if he beats Floyd it will be amazing, and he'll get lots of praise and recognition, but it won't make him an all time great.
If Floyd beats him, good for Floyd, but he needs to beat a few others before he convinces of his all-time greatness.
