Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
Now im not talking about Oscar getting a SP, or lucky late KO... Im talking about Oscar walking in and dominating lil Floyd Mayweather and outboxing him, then pherhaps maybe knocking him out in the late rounds. I think Oscar is stronger, just as fast, and more determine then Floyd. It's obvious floyd has never faced someone like Oscar, he has more reach then him, he is at his weight while floyd is moving up. He can box just as he can slug. I seriously dont see Floyd winning.... who agrees? ;D
-
Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
I like Oscar in this fight, main reason is this is by far the best opponent Floyd has faced. Floyd is also moving up in weight where he has never fought before. Oscar is comfortable at this weight and is a lot faster than people give him credit for. I don't think Floyd's punches will do much to Oscar. I like Oscar by a dominant decision.
-
Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
I cannot see Oscar dominating this fight. I can see his jab working for 3 rounds until Floyd gets his rhythm and then Floyd takes over and wins a boring 12 round decision.

Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
But on that same point, Floyd has seen NOBODY like De La Hoya. Experience is valuable.
Honestly, I could see it potentially being a close fight because Oscar is such a diverse puncher who picks his punches better then anyone and guys like that give anyone trouble. He's never been blown out, ever even against Hopkins, and you have to believe there is a reason for that. I can see it being close, but if I'm picking blowouts, it's Floyd all the way. Floyd has the intangibles stacked against him but he has skill that comes along once in a generation. He won't be blown out by anybody.

Um.. yeah like Sugar Shane Mosley who has just about the same speed as Floyd but hits stronger? Remember Oscar-Shane 1... close i can see how some people pick Shane... But the second fight was BULL Oscar won that fight. Easily.... But I guess your picking Floyd... Hopefully he will serve you a bit better then Mayorga did

Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
I think Floyd is a greater fighter than Mosley. He has a better flow with his punches and all around is more rounded. Mosley might have better power inside but Floyd has better fundamentals and that means alot. Floyd also gets better and better as the fight goes on. I think he is like Sugar Ray Leonard in that he is very intuitive. He sees more and more what he can do as the fight progresses. That is why I think Oscar should get right on Floyd in round one and take it to him and try to stop him early or at least bust him up enough where Floyd's gameplan is totally disrupted where he never has seen that kind of pressure before. But Floyd seems to me the better skilled fight over Mosley. Mosley has good handspeed but his footspeed is not so great.
-
Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
Floyd might have better all around skill than Shane...but Shane definitely has more power. I really feel Floyd was already stretching his frame and power too much at 147...now he is going up to 154. What will happen if Oscar walks through his punches? Because Oscar has a great chin to go along with his big power...his room for error is bit larger than Floyd's. Floyd has to be ultra careful the entire fight...because one punch can potentially end his night...and he doesn't have the power to keep Oscar off of him. Sure he has the speed...but someone of Oscar's skill and intelligence will eventually catch him and force him to go toe to toe. I think Floyd is really banking on the hope that his speed will keep Oscar off of him for the first part of the fight and that Oscar's age will show up at the end of the fight. But if Oscar comes into this fight in great shape and is sharp, which he look like he will, Floyd will have to fight the perfect fight to win.
-
Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
Oscar needs to presure to win the fight but since when has Oscar been a pressure fighter? SSM gave Oscar hell,Pernell,an old Pernell, did too. PBF is quicker than them both. It's not always about size or strength, especially if you are not accustomed to using it to win the fight. Oscar has always looked much more impressive boxing his way to wins. The only fighter Floyd has ever struggled with is JLC but he was a PURe PRESSURE FIGHTER,Oscar isn't. The only one doing the dominating here will be fLOYD,ring smarts, intelligence wins fights and no body is more accomplished in that area than the Pretty Boy.
-
Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
And Floyd won't be stretching himself at all imo. He weighed 150 at the last weight in,whos to say he won't stay at that weight or even come in lighter??? I think hell come in 149,may be even lower?? Therefore he'll still be fast. How can you hit something which just isn't there?? Oscar gasses, has never been a great pressure fighter, has struggled with speed before(and that was a PRIME Oscar),no way he beats Floyd imo. I hope its close and eciting though,I really want to see Floyds chin tested properly,no one has been good enough to really land flush enough times.
-
Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
El Gamo, there is a difference in fighting slow stiffs who are strong vs. skilled fighters who are also strong. Oscar is a legit 154 pounder who has power, skill, and a chin (and still at his age very good speed). I just don't think Floyd will be able to stay clear of getting hit for the entire fight. Fighters, including Oscar, have made the mistake of going up to high in weight class. It eventually catches up with you.
-
Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
Floyd also has never fought a fighter of this level and experience...especially on such a huge stage. Many People are just assuming it will be smooth sailing for Floyd in this fight. But what will happen if he faces adversity on this enormous a stage against this experienced a fighter?

I for one, don't think oscar was at his best against Mosley, tactically or what I don't know, didn't look to be firing 100% to me.

You mean slow stiff fighters who don't move or show defense? Yeah Oscar hasn't fought any of those lately ;) Oscar hasn't beaten one in years..
Since lost to Mosley Sturm and Hopkins. And he beat Mayorga(yes I picked Mayorga to win) he beat Mayorga but he didn't look earthshatteringly impressive as Stewart was pointing out before the KO that oscar fights in a rhythm that someone like Mayorga seemed to fall into(to his advantage) before the KO.
And Mayweather is going to off set him very much.
How do you think Oscar is going to beat Floyd? Are you placing it on the hope that "eventually" he will catch him? If Oscar beats Floyd it will be with ONE shot, because if he stuns Floyd badly with one shot then Floyd won't be there for a second shot, and if Floyd goes defensive(even to survive) Oscar will never catch him ;)

CC Starr, excellent points. When did Oscar last deal with anyone anywhere near Floyd? A long long time ago and even in his prime,he was getting beaten to the punch by ,Mosley and Pernell. Exactly,I just don't see Oscar having the volum of punches needed to beat Floyd. Most are saying he will win but are pinning their hopes on 1 shot. Zab Judah is faster than Oscar and he barely managed to land those shots. I don't think Oscar will catch him either.
And Zhubin bro, like I said, Floyd may come in really light,so its not like the weight is going to have that much of an effect.

Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
I don't think he will dominate Floyd yes he looked good against Mayorga but then so did Tito in his comeback but then Winky outboxed easy over 12 but against Sturm and Hopkins i thought Oscar looked awful and i think Sturm was robbed Mayorga made Oscar look as though he was back i don't believe it and im a fan of his i think Floyd easily out boxes him for a UD

Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
People keep bringing up Mayorga. Listen, obviously Oscar picked that fight as a warm up/confidence booster. He fought Mayorga in a slugfest style because he wanted to knock him out and punish him...so when you fight like that you aren't going to look your absolute tactical best. As for Sturm and Hopkins...Oscar was fighting out of his weight class and didn't look his best....give him credit for at least testing the waters...no shame in losing to Hopkins at a weight that is no where near ideal for Oscar. And Floyd certainly has not been fighting stiffs for the past few years ::**

Floyd beat Judah a fight ago. Can you name anyone Oscar's beat in the last 5 years as good as him ??? Or even with the same talent? I know Oscar has "fought" better fighters, but tell me one Oscar has beaten in his last 5 years that matches up to Zab(who was floyd's last opponent)? Then we'll talk about who's beaten who "recently"

And Oscar lost to Felix Sturm who got robbed.
But I did have SHane winning that fight. Once again because Oscar was fading down the stretch he didn't run, but Shane took the late rounds again and got the fight.
So can you name anyone else?

Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
This is how i see it. Oscar is too stiff in the ring, Floyd is way more fluid, and has better angles yeah Oscar is bigger but you can't hurt what you can't hit Bert Sugar said the only person that had better defense was Willie Pep (or he could have been talking about Pernell Whittaker, but lets say floyd for freakin converstation!! ;D). If this fight becomes a boxing clinic, then Floyd has an easy win. The only way I see Oscar winning is if he traps floyd in the CORNER and slugging, NOT THE ROPES!! because Floyd can get out of the ropes easily. I also wouldn't advise Oscar to do the Philly shell defense against floyd because he's just not good at it, Gatti was jabbin him through it so you know Floyd would be able to also. Plus, Oscar may have a steel chin, but he has a glass belly.
peace

Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
Zab Judah!!!!! Okaaaaaaaaaaaaay. One of the mentally weakest fighters in the game. All flash and no substance. A man who has lost every big fight in his career...including a fight against CARLOS BALDOMIR. A great win for Floyd ::**

You can't compare Mosley and Pernell with Floyd because of 2 reasons:
1) Floyd has not fought the same type of fighters as Sweet Pea and Sugar Shane.
2) Floyd doesn't have the power to rock DLH with a punch or two. Floyd is all about speed, that's it.
And for those who compare him to Sugar Ray Robinson, technically Floyd and SRR are similar BUT SRR could end it with one or two punches. SRR is way way better than Floyd.

Majesty, Oscar might not have beaten Hopkins or Mosley...but at least he faced them. Name one great fighter Floyd has fought in the past 5 years...oh....actually in his entire career?! Easy to look good against Baldomir, Mitchell, Gatti, and even Zab.

You still didn't answer my question man, we're talking about recents, but since you asked, Jose Luis Castillo twice :)
But how about you tell me what "great" fighters he could have fought at 140 and 147, I'm dying to know :)

Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
The classic Floyd fan response "who could he have fought?" Hey....maybe it's Floyd's fault or not...maybe he is a victim of his era.....but go take another look at his career resume. The only fighter you can MAYBE call great is Castillo. When did he fight him? 5 years ago. So yeah...Oscar's last big win was against Vargas maybe a little over 5 years ago...but he at least faced a great fighter at his comfortable weight (Mosley) and was willing to go up in weight to fight a legend (Hopkins). He lost/...so what....he tested himself against the best...instead of playing it safe. What the hell has Floyd done? Looked spectacular against stiffs and a mental basket case.

Excellent points,CC. Oscars resume is far far far far far far superior to Floyds' A win over Pernell is a million times better than any win on Floyd's resume. Even a loss to Pernell, albeit a close one would be more impressive than alot of Floyd's wins!
-
Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
Oscar was also fighting Jimmy Brehdal and Jorge Paez, champions, a year and a half into his pro career, he's had a lot more time and opportunities to fight great fighters. And Floyd's resume at lightweight is very good. Very good.
And good point on De La Hoya - Whitaker Gamo. They're not the same fighter by any means but Whitaker and Mayweather are very much alike. Whitaker was pas this prime, but sill made De La Hoya come forward which is something Mayweather could be doing.
But still, I wouldn't put to much stock in quality of opposition for this one, because while De La Hoya has fought the better competition, Mayweather is the best boxer in the world right now.

DAm rught bro. Even though Oscar has fought much much better fighters,I don't know how much of an advantage it'll be against an Einstein in the ring,a P4P Picasso Floyd Mayweather. As he says, ring smarts win fights and he has it in abundance.

But if Oscar comes into this fight in great shape and is sharp, which he look like he will, Floyd will have to fight the perfect fight to win.
CC #44 bro!!! A good big man will always beat a good little man....
Tell that to Michael Spinks ;)
Or Cory for that matter ;)

Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
I will say this. The advantage Oscar has on Floyd is the size. That is the big thing. If he did not have that I wouldn't even think there was a chance for him to win. Floyd is faster and at this point better. But the size difference a week before the fight of 150 to 158 pounds is alot. Floyd will come in at 147 or 148 for the fight. If Floyd is still 150 at the next weigh in that will be good actually. if it is natural.. Then 150 to 154 is not too much of a big deal. but Oscar is alot bigger than Shane I think. if Shane beats Oscar I think it is a nice accomplishment. he will have beaten a guy who is alot bigger and should have all the advantages.. The size is the biggest factor for Floyd to overcome. by round 4 we will have the answer how he dealt with it.

Good points Legend. I think Oscar will feel Floyd out for a round or two just to test things out and see how he measures up, but if Oscar hasn't started imposing himself by round 3-4 it could be a very bad night for Oscar.
The argument that Oscar fades has some validity, but even so, he has shown an ability to carry is power late into fights. His late flurry against Quartey, late knock downs or knock outs against Castillejo, Vargas, Carr. He may tire, but he's still dangerous. However, if he hasn't established himself against Floyd and let's him get out ahead on points, I don't see Floyd being stupid enough to fall into one of De La Hoya's late traps. It's possible, but not likely.
Yes, by round 4 we should have a very good idea about this one.

It's obvious floyd has never faced someone like Oscar, he has more reach then him, he is at his weight while floyd is moving up. He can box just as he can slug. I seriously dont see Floyd winning.... who agrees? ;D
that comment alone is why you don't know what the hell you're talking about.....
