Re: Any new news on trinidad?
Tito received an offer to Fight Taylor, but he wants to fight Hopkins or De La Hoya. Hopkins indicated that he does not want to fight Tito again. I really think that the fight that Tito has to search is De La Hoya. However, his father is indicating that the fight has to be at 166, which is something that makes this fight almost impossible because De La Hoya is going in the opposite direction in weight.
I have to say that I am really mad with Tito's father who I believe is making damage to his career at this moment. I believe that Tito can still make a couple of good fights, but not at weights over 160, this is a big mistake. In the initial rounds with RJJ he looked quick, strong with good reflexes, but RJJ physical advantage was evident as soon as he landed a good shot, and Tito could not hurt him. And, as I said this will hurt Tito's career (and I hope not him physically) because he is fighting at a weight class where he does not belong and his father does not see that.

Hey P.R Punch , i agree with you when you say that his father made damage on Titos Career , but the point is that Tito cant make less of 170 pnd. , is sooo difficult for him to make it , dont think that they even had try it , but IMO i think that Tito should leave boxing , i know that he can make some more money , but in addition he blemished his career and all glory that he reached for him and for the Country ...............;)

Re: Any new news on trinidad?
plain and simple Trindad can make 160 he just might need more time between fights to do it, and if by some chance that he can't, well he has no business being in the ring as a fighter, cause he has no chance at 168 or anywhere else above that, IMO, Kessler, Miranda (at 168), Taylor, Pavlik, Bute, Calzaghe, Jones (again), Hopkins (again), will all beat Trinidad

I agree that Trinidad has no business fighting above 160. Even at that weight, his record was a mediocre 3-2 (wins against Joppy, Cherifi, Mayorga.... losses to Hopkins and Winky). Going to 170 to fight Jones Jr. was ridiculous. He gave it his best shot and actually looked sharp in the beginning, but it became painfully obvious early on that he was never going to hurt Jones Jr.
I think he's let too much time pass between fights. Hell, he's had 5 fights in the past 7 years since losing to Hopkins. I partly blame his father for handling his son's career poorly at this stage. Tito should've dropped him a long time ago.

Watch the old tapes that is the great Tito, he will never be that again, any further ring ventures are to fill his pockets only

You fail to understand what it is that makes fighters continue to fight beyond their glory years. (See another thread I started on the subject). I'm sure a few million in the ol' bank account doesn't hurt, but it involves more than that.

Really I know exactly why fighters want to continue, there head and heart says they can still win, they have spent all their lives training and working for something, they get almost Institutionalised, but in reality their bodies are no longer up for the task and 9 out of 10 comebacks end in defeat.
-
Re: Any new news on trinidad?
I actually wouldn't mind seeing ODLH vs Tito 2, both men are older and slower. So i think we would see more toe to toe action than there first meeting and plus it would be a major event.

I can name several reasons why fighters keep on past their prime:
a. they love to fight
b. they think they still can
c. they're hooked on the cheering and the fan worship
d. they can't stand some young gun stealing their thunder
e. (a few extra million don't hurt either)

You and me both. In reality, Trinidad-De la Hoya II would be the ONLY fight I'd like Tito to fight, and preferably at 160.

Oh yeah. He took that "shot" to the liver, went down, and started punching the canvas. No, I don't think he'd want any part of Tito at 160.

You guys are nuts Oscar would kill Tito these days, he has kept active, Tito has been out too long, Tito at 160 is just 15-20lbs over weight, the same as Oscar would be

Oscar would "kill" Tito at 160? I'd be willing to place a small wager on that one.
;)
The Tito that lost to Jones Jr. would've beaten Oscar easily. Oscar's last fight was against a smaller, light-punching, hand-picked unknown... and he STILL couldn't put him away. Came out with a few bumps and bruises, too.

Re: Any new news on trinidad?
Sure find me when they make the fight
-
Re: Any new news on trinidad?
seriously dude De La Hoya has a hell of a lot more in the tank then Trinidad, at least he can make weight for big fights
-
Re: Any new news on trinidad?
And Steve Forbes is tough, he has never been stopped Oscar out boxed him for every round, RJJ destroyed Tito and Roy didn't look anywhere near his best, Tito was a great fighter but those days are over for him.

(LOL) You'll have to talk ol' Oscar into that one. Tito's not part of his "farewell tour." No... he'd rather fight the dangerous Forbes, follow it up with Golden Boy-Pretty Boy Part II (yawn), and... according to him... maybe fight Cotto (yeah, right). I'll bet the house money that Oscar retires after the Floyd fight.

I think if he was going for the easier fight he would pick Tito over Pretty Boy any day, Forbes was a tune up no more no less, a guy that Oscar could work on for 12 rounds, everyone knew that including Forbes, he is getting older unlike PBF he can't just take the year off before the fight. Agree he will quit after that fight though

PBF's not the KO threat to Oscar that Tito would be. Don't be quick to judge Tito on what you saw against RJJ. Oscar would've fared much, much, much worse. Difference is... Tito takes on ATG's at 170, at least 10 pounds over any weight Tito has ever fought at. Not a good move on paper. Oscar makes safer choices, picking a former 130-pounder to make himself look good.

Am sorry didn't those guys fight when they were in their prime? at 147lbs right?, did Tito knock Oscar out then? Oscar boxed his head off then went to sleep in the last few rounds and got robbed. You think Tito coming in a little bit fatter would make a difference?

"Went to sleep"? Running like a bitch-slapped whore would be more like it. And like someone who knows more about boxing than you said a while ago... at 160 and a bit older, there might be more toe-to-toe exchanges between the two, which of course, would favor Tito.

Sorry can i just check, are you talking about yourself when you say you know more about boxing than me? really ok, what is your background in boxing apart from paying for the odd ticket or watching it on TV, and typing about it on a computer, sorry just trying to find out what I am up against?

Re: Any new news on trinidad?
would a rematch with mayorga at 160 be a good step forward for tito?
-
Re: Any new news on trinidad?
Why would he need to whip Mayorga again???
I think if Tito is going to continue to fight he needs to take on Jermain Taylor, Jeff Lacy, Vernon Forrest, Ike Quartey or maybe even a Bernard Hopkins rematch.
-
Re: Any new news on trinidad?
call mayorga another tune up befor he fights anyone dangerous.
time is running out....
-
Re: Any new news on trinidad?
Hopefully it's retirement. he doesn't belong in the ring anymore.

two things, Jones basically dominated Tito after the 4th, and didn't stop him because he held back after the first knockdown, cause honestly i and everybody that was with me thought that Jones allowed Trinidad to get away because like typical Jones he knew he had the fight in the bag after that, so he saw no point in inflicting more damage then he needed to, plus the fact that they're friends out of the ring had to help
the second thing, even if De La Hoya retires after the Mayweather rematch, at least he only retired once, after a 16 yr long career, not once after each ass whooping he recieves, hell i'm suprised he didn't say that "papi" told him to retire for the 3rd time after Jones whooped his ass

I actually think and no disrespect to Tito fans but i feel Jones carried Tito in later stages, because he respects him remember Jones done something similar against Mike McCallum.
