Oasis defined 90s brit pop and without them i truly believe guitar based bands wouldnt exist in this day and age and the whole of europe/australia etc would now be just like america listening to endless manufactured pop and hip hop music!!

As for the Oasis argument, yes they were a good band, but greatest of all time? I could only name about 5 of their songs, and I'm a musician.
There are too many other honorable mentions to mention.
As for the 90's thing, that era for me was defined by the big 5:

Pearl Jam
Alice in Chains
Soundgarden
Stone Temple Pilots

Hence why in the UK, Ireland, australia etc they noel and liam gallagher are household names and wonderwall, roll with it are not just songs but anthems.

Oasis had the bad fortune to hit America while the grunge scene was in force - their music wasn't raw enough to appeal to a lot of people into that type of music. They did get a decent push over here, though - more people here know of Oasis than you might think. We still play Wonderwall in our acoustic set, and it always gets a good reaction from the crowd.Quote:

I like a couple of songs from Oasis, but they are no where near being a greatest of all time.
The song I like the most by them is "Fuckin' In The Bushes", is was the perfect song to use in the movie Snatch.
On a side note -
The band that put on the most entertaining show I've ever seen never made it anywhere near "greatest" status. But they knew how to put on a show!

The Beatles hands down. They're not necessarily my personal favorite, though I love them, but they changed everything, they're still popular today, McCartney revolutionized the way the bass is played, and their influence can be heard in almost everything that has come out since then.

White boy blues? I disagree with that. I thought early on they were a very good blues band. Listen to the BBC recordings. It is cool to see they evolved from blues to rock. I mainly listen to blues and thats where most of my exposure comes to me except for obviously the rock station staples.

Solo they were all at best tolerable, but you put the 4 of them together, they can do proto metal(Helter Skelter) hippy dippy(SgT Peppers) and even swing(Your Mother SHould Know) and folk(Let It Be)
