Ok Calzaghe Haters What Does He Need To Do In Jones Fight To Get Respect!
Will a knockout do it?
Will a unaminous decision do it?
Will a split decision do it?
As many folk on this site think RJJ is gonna win, then if Calzaghe wins U have to give him respect. correct?

he has to do what he did to kessler for the mainstream to respect him..
take what RJJ dishes out to him, counter punch, and make him give up basically..
I'd say he needs a pretty solid UD for any hater to have an ounce of respect..

Re: Ok Calzaghe Haters What Does He Need To Do In Jones Fight To Get Respect!
Well i don't like him as a person so i would never respect him on that point i don't like his boxing style so no respect their either and as for his career its all a bit to little to late.
-
Re: Ok Calzaghe Haters What Does He Need To Do In Jones Fight To Get Respect!
For people that already dislike calzaghe this upcoming fight won't change anything. Maybe a couple of years back..but not now. I don't mind the guy either way but from what i see it's joe's career as a whole they dislike not something one particular fight will change. I doubt he cares half as much as his fans do, joe seems satisfied with what he's done during his time in the sport.
-
Re: Ok Calzaghe Haters What Does He Need To Do In Jones Fight To Get Respect!
The title could have been a bit less abrasive IMO. I think most real boxing fans respect Joe.
Simaltaneous 2 division recognized Ring Champ
Undefeated
Over 10 year champion
Not to mention top 5 PFP fighter.
Id say there is a lot to be respected there;)

Re: Ok Calzaghe Haters What Does He Need To Do In Jones Fight To Get Respect!
I wont respect him ever , beating a 39 year old Jones who Tarver and Johnson have KOED , and a 43 year old hopkins dont make a career.
If i was in a burning building with no escape than to be helped by calzaghe then i would rather burn. I HATE HIM MORE THAN MOST CAN HATE ANYTHING

Kessler never gave up in the fight against Calzaghe.
Joe has to beat Jones by a clear decision. Closer to his victory against Kessler than his win over Hopkins.

I'm the same as the Dark one here i hate the guy how true boxing fans like his style is beyond me.

Re: Ok Calzaghe Haters What Does He Need To Do In Jones Fight To Get Respect!
He can't do anyhting to gain respect, that is absolutely apparent. Everybody said he had to fight Lacy, he did it, everybody said he had to fight Kessler he did it. Everybody acknowledged that the only 2 real fights out there were Pavlick or Hopkins, he fought Hopkins and beat him. He can NEVER get respect from the haters.
I don't think beating Jones will enhance his legacy, although it will look good on paper

THAT COMMENT IS BOLLOCKS.

Re: Ok Calzaghe Haters What Does He Need To Do In Jones Fight To Get Respect!
Its not about just defending in Britain its some of the guys he fought from Eubank to Lacy he didn't do much he threatened to go to Light heavy loads of times to get the better fights but never did.

Re: Ok Calzaghe Haters What Does He Need To Do In Jones Fight To Get Respect!
Nothing. Jones Jr is washed up and way past his best.

He was gonna fight Glen Johnson at lightheavy - but that was before Johnson sparked Roy.. so none of you haters would have give him any credit for the win anyway
You'd all be saying Johnson is a journeyman. Fact.

Re: Ok Calzaghe Haters What Does He Need To Do In Jones Fight To Get Respect!
The responses so far have pretty much been way to extreme imo. Either people think he can never do anything to gain more respect as he's already simply so great and some people are just stupid, and then the haters who add substance to that theory. Of course he doesn't need to gain respect in the sense he doesn't have any, that's complete shit he's had a great career. But I think it COULD hurt him in a sense fighting Roy Jones at this stage. It all depends too much on what Roy(and even Joe as well) have left to give. I really don't like Roy's chances to win myself given his legs, but if he looks good in the ring and Joe still deals with him then that goes a great way to increase his stock imo. I mean it's quite possible Calzaghe could show something to suggest he may have given a prime Roy Jones a close fight, it's also possible that he could win and yet still suggest he wouldn't have stood a chance. And then not to mention the possibility that Roy could turn back the clock enough to pull out the greatest win of his career. It is definetly an extremely interesting fight with signifigance for both guys, it's way to late but the clash of styles is tremendous. Also a pretty good undercard, Zab Judah vs someone and Frankie Figuroa(good fighter) fighting Gavin Rees.

Assuming Calzaghe just blew him out... Don't think there's even a chance it would've been a good fight?

Without the Jones win, which led to the Tarver win, Johnson wouldn't have the credibility he does.
Calzaghe was going to fight him before he sparked Roy. So.. had Calzaghe beaten him he wouldn't have got the Roy fight, which means he'd just be classed as a tough journeyman type (win or lose to Calzaghe).
Naturally, after beating Jones and Tarver, it was clear he'd been robbed by everyman and his dog throughout his career ;)

And there accumlated IQ is probably around the same number of title defences Calzaghe has had, yet good posters with sense continue to believe he is this victim of widespread blind hatred because of it. A little odd indeed if you ask me.

Re: Ok Calzaghe Haters What Does He Need To Do In Jones Fight To Get Respect!
I respect what Calzaghe has done, I was in the camp that said he needed to fight Kessler, well he did that he adjusted like a champion and won a clear decision. I don't like Calzaghe's style, it is not entertaining to me, but I respect what he has done. I don't think any result in the Jones fight will make me gain or lose respect for him.
Credit where credit is due, Calzaghe earned his ring rankings.

Ahhh, I didn't get your angle on that one. Guess I wasn't aware it would've spoiled the Jones Jr fight. If it had took place before that and Glen didn't pull off the upset he would've had a much tougher time competing at the top level until now, obviously. Guess I just took exception to the comment as Johnson is a perfectly capable fighter who has been on very good form since then. Don't think it's out of the question he could have beaten Calzaghe, or at least done well enough to be regarded as more than a journeyman. I think he would have made some surge forward as a contender even without the Jones Jr fight though, it's not as though there are a bunch of guys more likely to have landed big fights considering his throwback approach.

The best thing that ever happened to Johnson was Calzaghe pulling out of their fight - win or lose.
Johnson would have always got fights at the top level because he is world-class.. but beatable, and willing to fight in the other guys backyard. ;)

I respect Calzaghe for his great chin and boxing brain too!Im one of the five!

Re: Ok Calzaghe Haters What Does He Need To Do In Jones Fight To Get Respect!
I'm not a Calzaghe hater, but I'm certainly a bit of critic when it comes to him being over protected and being a total slapper for the the last 4 years or so. I give him plenty of respect for the Kessler fight, and beating Hopkins, even if just barely. 43 or not, Hopkins is still one of the best in the world. He's the Nolan Ryan of boxing.
How much credit he gets in MY book depends somewhat depends on how Jones looks and how he goes into the fight mentally. Jones has looked progressively better since Tarver 3, and he's improved some technical flaws that he used to mask with almost godlike reflexes. He still has his handspeed and some tools that could give Joe problems. If Jones looks good, and Calzaghe still beats him clearly, it'll give him credit. I think Jones actually has a chance in this fight, because I don't think he will go in afraid of getting hit and that will allow him to open up.

lets face it the people that don't like him will never say they respect him even if they did

It is a bit of a shame... He won my respect years ago but have never liked his style. He wins fights. I have seen many of his early fights after the fact and saw that he was a crisp puncher with pop but was forced to change his style after the repeated injurys...
That being said...
Years from now Joe will be remembered as a great champion and kingpin. He destroyed Lacy and Beat Bhop that CLEARLY... CLEARLY has more left in the tank then we thought when we saw him against Tarver, Wright and Calzaghe.
IMHO the Pavlik fight showed just how good Joe is and added alot of stock to that fight.
I don't really see a plethora of Calzaghe haters anymore. It's undeniable to brush off his accomplishments.
Joe Calzaghe is as great a champ in modern time as you can get...

I really like Calzaghe but there is nothing at this point in Jones' career that Joe can do as a top 5 p4p to earn my respect in this fight. Only Jones has a something to gain besides money from this fight.

Him beating Hopkins is debatable which makes using that as a plus for Calzaghe IMO wrong, You could say he had a close fight with Bernard either way, but saying he clearly won isn't correct.

Re: Ok Calzaghe Haters What Does He Need To Do In Jones Fight To Get Respect!
I have the answer to the initial thread question.....
He can say it was all a big mistake, he isn't British, he is actually American. Within a week he would be p4p number 1 ;D
-
Re: Ok Calzaghe Haters What Does He Need To Do In Jones Fight To Get Respect!
I give Calzaghe respect for all his accomplishments. I also believe he is top 3 pound for pound.
He should beat Roy but I won't be cheering for him.
I'm just not a fan.
