Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
Golden Boy Promotions has issued a statement announcing that the mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao is in jeopardy because Manny Pacquiao is refusing to comply with Olympic style drug testing as requested by Mayweather’s management. Early today Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, was contacted by Top Rank President Todd duBoef, who informed Schaefer that Pacquiao would not agree to have his blood taken within 30-days of the bout based on the fighter’s superstition of testing so close to a fight. Schaefer commented, “Todd told me that Pacquiao has difficulty with taking blood and doesn’t want to do it so close to the fight. He, Pacquiao, would only agree to have blood drawn before the kick-off press conference and after the fight.”
Olympic style drug testing involves random sampling of the athlete’s blood and urine prior to and after the fight. The USADA procedure includes both blood and urine sampling so that all banned substances, some of which do not show up in urine alone, are tested for thoroughly.
“It is unfortunate to hear this from Manny Pacquiao’s representatives, particularly since, as of today, both parties had worked out all other issues related to this fight,” said Schaefer. “Team Mayweather is certainly surprised that an elite athlete like Manny Pacquiao would refuse drug testing procedures which Floyd has already agreed to and have been agreed to by many other top athletes such as Lance Armstrong, and Olympians Michael Phelps, LeBron James and Kobe Bryant.”
Mayweather, who was informed of Pacquiao’s reluctance shortly after Schaefer received word of the impasse, feels Pacquiao has to explain himself immediately or be faced with accusations from the media and the public regarding his own status as a clean and drug free athlete.
“I understand Pacquiao not liking having his blood taken, because frankly I don’t know anyone who really does,” said Mayweather. “But in a fight of this magnitude, I think it is our responsibility to subject ourselves to sportsmanship at the highest level. I have already agreed to the testing and it is a shame that he is not willing to do the same. It leaves me with great doubt as to the level of fairness I would be facing in the ring that night. I hope that this is either some miscommunication or that Manny will change his mind and step up and allow these tests, which were good enough for all these other great athletes, to be performed by USADA.”
Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions said,”We hope that Manny will do the right thing and agree to the testing as it is an egregious act to deny the testing and hence, deny the millions of fans the right to see this amazing fight. We just want to make sure there is a level playing field in a sport that is a man-to-man contest that relies on strength and ability. I still hope this decision is coming from someone in Pacquiao’s camp and not Manny himself as it would be a shame that an athlete of his stature and who represents his whole country would not be able to show the public or his fellow athletes that he agrees to the highest standards in sports competition.”

Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
...and people say floyd is the shady one. My daughter has tried that same excuse when it was time for school shots. Hopefully this is just a bunch of pre fight hoopla and bullshit. I wouldn't be surprised. First pac wants a ka-trillion dollor weight rule which is out of the norm so just take the damn test pac, you get one silly request so let floyd have one too. Hey maybe paulie has some "jose canceco" type of intuition (however you spell it) Everyone called canceco crazy at the begining too !! Funny thing is even on roids he wouldn't beat floyd. I know i know, but he just wouldn't.

Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
Uh oh! THis proves it he's on steroids! lol
-
Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
Nice homer simpson quote. This has me a little concerned if it's infact true. I agree with Mayweathers quote completely. Even if it creeps you out to have your blood taken, suck it up dude. I hope this is all just some reporter jumping the gun.

Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
this had already been bought up by roach last week saying pacs red blood cell levels wouldnt have time to return to normal that close to the fight.... possible epo use that sounds like but who knows

Na not so quick, remember this is a sport full of shady cats...till a test proves otherwise even if pac refuses, i'll give him a break and wait for the positive test. But i did hear both shane mosely and margarito say cheating is for punks when they heard the news.

Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
Why Mayweather Jr. don't agree on high penalty if he came overweight? 10 million dollar is fair.
Very simple answer:
Because he want's to come in 160lbs to 170 lbs at fight night to make Manny Pacquiao smaller and not to feel Manny Pacquiao punches after a lots serious drug testings. They want little Pacquiao to feel weak at the fight night. Taking to much blood on Manny Pacquiao will make him feel weak and smaller!
SMART MOVE BY THE MAYWEATHER'S.

Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
Manny should comply, but not to the USADA. There should be a 3rd party besides the US doing these drug tests. I sure wonder how come the USADA fail to catch it's own athletes in the 2000 and 2004 olympics for doping. Makes you think.

Yea me too...(as i slam the door of my smoke filled pacifica on the way into the drug test facility making drug dogs bark like ole yella) but yea that excuse makes sense to me.

Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
So what if Floyd agrees to the "ridiculous" weight penalty if Pac-man agrees to the drug testing?
-
Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
How come he don't want a higher penalty in case someone came OVERWEIGHT at the weigh in?
Pacquiao is asking a 10 million dollar per pound at 147lbs limit. Why Floyd don't agree? Maybe he plans to come in 150 lbs at weigh-in.
I smell something fishy here. I think Floyd will come BIG at fight night and make Pacquiao weaker and smaller after lots of serious drug test.

since when has mayweather came in at 160 -170 on fight night ? he was only 148 on the night of the DLH fight after weighing in at 152 !!
-
Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
yeah 2 years ago~! How about today? How come Floyd refused to weight at fight night against Juan Manuel Marquez? If you watch the JMM vs PBF.
Mayweather come in OVERWEIGHT against Marquez and refused to be weigh at fight night. Is he hiding something. Mayweather Jr. look big at that fight. I'm guessing his around 160 lbs.
-
Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
WOW,HERE WE GO AGAIN.:rolleyes:ITS ALL JUST HYPE TO GET US ALL TALKING ABOUT IT IN THE NEW YEAR.IM NOT TAKING INTEREST IN IT.THE FIGHT WILL HAPPEN IT HAS TO PERIOD!
-
Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
he looked big in comparison to jmm who looked small, he wont be at 160 on fight night, he still himself isnt a big welterweight such as the likes of clottey and margarito who do come in at 160+
-
Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
No more fight! Pacman is on PEDs. He'll probably go hang with Sugar Shane now.
-
Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
I guess cancel this stupid fight. Both Mayweather Jr. and Pacquiao are pre madona.
I guess its
Manny Pacquiao vs Sugar Shane Mosley for the unification of all belts including the Welterweight Ring Magazine belt. If Shane wins against Berto. :)
-
Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
Oh my God! Oh my God! This fight will never happen. This is the first shiver of a tremendous earthquakes, they won't find any compromise possible.

Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
What's there to hide? On different interviews, 24/7 shows, etc. Team Pac proudly talks about how Pac doesn't even take tylenol or cold medicine because he likes to be all pure. What's out there to hide then?

Youre right there's nothing to hide if Pac isn't afraid and he should comply. But its kind of funny coming from you since you're a Margarito fan, and he's a known cheat.

Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
I find this very strange considering the drug testing has been out there for over a week. After Sr making all the comments if Manny doesnt agree to it things are going to get very ugly.
Poor Cotto, battered by a guy on roids and a guy with plastered gloves. :)

i know that sucks for such a brave warrior getting beat up by 2 guys that are under serious suspicions. But at least he beat a guy who was on PEDs (Mosley).:)

Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
Mayweather NEEDS to sign a penalty contract in the case of making the weight as the Marquez fight showed he cannot be trusted.
Manny Pac NEEDS to adhere to all drug testing procedures. It's the right thing to do and a simple "I don't like blood tests" simply does not suffice as an acceptable excuse.
-
Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
Testing fuss jeopardizes Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather fight - ESPN
According to ESPN, Roach said he has no problems whatsoever with the Olympics drugs testing method. I am 100% sure Pacman will accept and that it will be proven to be just a misinterpretation or a kind of marketing, a pre-fight boost so peoples would talk about that fight even before the promotion would be started.

Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
Why should Pacquiao comply? This is just another Mayweather ploy to play head games...Hell if he agrees to the overweight pricing then I am sure Freddie will talk Manny into taking the test....Floyd is scared and to say different is a Floyd nut hugger....
It is an insult to Pacquiao that he take a test for Floyds satisfaction...Yet Floyd won't agree to Manny's request? Floyd always looking to stack the deck in his favor
The idea of Manny should just take the test to prove Floyd wrong is not a good reply...This will then become a common practice for other fighters making simular demands of opponents...
Hell Floyd is the one who left the sport....Manny stayed and fought on but now Manny should jump at what Floyd wants? Nah...
Yet Floyd knows he wants to come in overweight to make thing ever more in his favor....
Why doesn't Floyd agree to have his whole body tested for feces and prove he is not one big asshole?
Manny should nor any fighter have to take anything more then the mandatory test required by the commission or the other guy should have to succumb to the same test or at minimum one guy gives in to the others demands then vice versa
Fair is fair

Fair is fair and that is why both fighters should act as honestly as they can. Mayweather needs to make weight and Manny should provide a comprehensive drugs check. What's the problem with that?
Boxing should be held to stringent standards. After all, this is a sport where people are getting battered. The playing field needs to be level. If that means actually meeting contract weights or providing a little blood to erase suspicion, then so be it.
If both men are submitting to the same testing procedures, I don't percieve how there can be any problem.

Agree 100%. This sport has so many shady things in it. Margarito with hand wraps, Mosley with balco, Floyd not honoring the weight, etc.
They both need to comply with the weight and blood testing. It's estimated that they are both guaranteed 20 million each. That's 20 million reasons right there.
-
Should this fight not happen because of...
pacquiao's refusal to submit to the very same blood test mayweather has agreed to, i will consider pacquiao a massive fraud. here is the number one p4p fighter in the world who is afraid of a little needle because he is superstitious? give me a damned break! with his recent refusal to take this blood test shows me that he is a fraud and a cheat. if he has nothing to hide then go ahead and show the world that you're clean. besides, you wouldn't want to let your whole country down, the same country who considers you their God, would you?

The same commission that let Margarito all but get away with loading his gloves? Mayweather gives a very fair explination why he believes they should both take further testing, and its not an unfair request. Especially given the amount of athletes who have been caught taking steroids. I don't see how this is Mayweather gaining an edge, and I doubt that Manny takes steroids.
-
Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
One further thing I will add, is that whilst I agree that both fighters should follow the same rigorous testing procedures, let's just wait a while and see what the Pac camp response is in the next few days. He might well agree after a short period of deliberation. If not, then the accusations can fly somewhat.

I don't think he is either and considering how things have gone over the years I can somewhat understand the request but this request is coming from a guy that gives no guarentees he will make weight nor is he willing to succumb to a severe penelty for not doing so...What does that say about Floyd?
That is why I said if one gives in then so should the other...Manny should not have to test just because Floyd wants him to, and like I said if it happens then it will open the doors for other fighters to make such demands....
They make such test before and after fights for illegal substances.....That should be good enough anything else is a demand on the opponents behalf so if Manny gives in so should Floyd on the weight penelty..
I do think the commissions drop the ball often considering the example you used with Margarito...I have said openly several times that it is a crime that Richardson found the substance not the official....
As for Floyd agreeing to the test sure he will because he will be able to step in with a 20 plus pound weight advantage by not agreeing to make weight so explain to me how that is not just as much the advantage as the use of steroids? Though I condone neither......In fact that is justr as bad if not worse because he is using it as a mental advantage as well a physical one....
Why the hell can't there ever be a fight that just goes off without this bullshit? Just train, step in the ring fight your best and the better man of the evening wins......
I guess that fad wore off in the 70's

How the hell woudl Mayweather enjoy a 20 pound weigh advantage? When has Mayweather ever put on even 7+ pounds between a weigh in and the fight? Not even when he was at 130 did he add that much weight from the weigh in to the fight. Mayweather has never been recorded gaining more than 3 pounds between weigh-in and the pre fight weigh-in, and that was against Baldomir. Mayweather came in at 146 with absolutely no problems against Juan Manuel Marquez, why would anyone think he wouldn't make the welterweight limit? Mayweather maybe weighed 4-6 pounds more than Marquez, but not anywhere near to 20 pounds. The only difference in their size was his height which was an inch or two.

Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
Ok one thing that IS really annoying is that people keep repeating this idea that Floyd blew up to 160+ on fight night against Marquez.
He was weighed on the night just NOT by HBO. Both he & Marquez took voluntary weigh-ins for NSAC, which were published in what I believe was the November or December issue of Ring Magazine. So anyone looking to find that info can find it in there. Marquez weighed in at 146 on the night. Mayweather was 152.
Anyone who has any issues with those figures, feel free to write to Nigel Collins, the editor of The Ring, to complain.
On the issue, Pacquiao should take the test. I can't see how anyone but the biggest Manny fan or someone who hates Floyd to a level that's really quite worrying considering he's only an athlete, could actually disagree with the general feeling put forward here.

Marquez weighed in at 148 when HBO weighed him on fight night.

Maybe he drank a load of piss ;D
I didn't remember that weight, it was more the Mayweather weight I remembered because I was surprised it was so low because I thought he'd be up around 155. My issue is at someone else's home, but anyone with the issue that is all white except for Mayweather with his hands raised on the cover can verify what the actual weights were when weighed by NSAC.

Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
Mayweather has already agreed to Pacquiao's demand of 10 million over the welterweight limit, it's time for Manny to agreed to this part of the bargain of blood testing. And it's only a tablespoon of blood, not that much to affect Pacquiao.
Quote:
"We're not talking about a lot blood, just a tablespoon," said Schaefer, who reiterated he is not accusing Pacquiao of any illegal drug use. "For someone that is in the public eye the way Pacquiao is, he should be held to the highest standard of drug testing. That's all we are asking for."

Re: Pacquiao-Mayweather in jeopardy...
funny how the Pacquiao fans are trying to insinuate that Mayweather is trying to weight drain the already smaller fighter lol and no Pacquiao fan should be bitching about anyone else trying to play the weight game, when Pacquiao is king for it already :-X
