Lara/Hearns should be fun. I really don't want to see Taylor back in the ring, he was in bad shape the last time he left.

How good is Noe Gonzales? I admit I haven't seen much of him.

I believe Kelvin Price is the guy who derailed Tor Hamor's run. I wonder if they'll show his fight on Showtime extreme.

Jermain isn't the sharpest tack in the box, but if that's what he wants to do, I reckon it's his business. Taylor loves boxing, even after being knocked out 3 times, go figure.
As for Lara vs. Hearns, lets just say, Ronald doesn't seem to be a chip off the old block, but it should be a decent scrap.

They don't show it listed on Showtime Extreme Friday night, they might show the results on the reg Showtime card, but as late as it starts (11:00 PM ET) i'm sure they'll only have time for the 2 main events.

I've gotten where I like Taylor. He's a nice guy, and its not his fault HBO shoved him relentlessly down our throats n gave him at least 1 decision against Bernard, I think two.
Anyway I hope Taylor wins and looks good, if so he could make for a great opponent for Chavez or Martinez.
Lara should dominate, Hearns is all heart just like McGirt's kid, but he just doesn't have the power of talent of his Dad.

Re: ESPN and Showtime FNF thread for April 20th - Jermain Taylor back in action
Hoping to see Taylor win here, which he should. He should take another fight or two at this level before attempting a run at the top guys

If Taylor wants a shot at another belt, I believe Sturm is the perfect fight. He doesn't hit especially hard. He's not going to beat Taylor on activity. He's not as fast as Jermain. Jermain could make good money going to Germany for the fight. Jermain should stay away from punchers. Martinez hits too accurately and hard for Jermain. Chavez Jr. is promoted by Top Rank so I doubt that fight will happen.
If you want my opinion of what will happen with Junior's career, assuming he gets by Lee, is that he'll either face Martinez or he'll vacate the belt to avoid Martinez and face Pavlik. Canelo isn't big enough to get in the ring with Junior although that would be the most popular fight in Mexico by far.

I've always liked Taylor, I just didn't like seeing him get his head caved in. :-X

Looking forward to see the guy Stevenson , how good is his opponent?? , will Stevenson be tested or will it be another early knock out
-
Re: ESPN and Showtime FNF thread for April 20th - Jermain Taylor back in action
I hope he doesn't get seriously hurt. He suffered a brain bleed against Abraham. If he's going to fight on, I'd keep him away from anybody who can punch.

Adonis Stevenson is no world beater, his record is: 17-1 with 14 KO's isn't as good as Noe Gonzalez' record: 28-1 with 20 KO's. Looks like a toss up to me and it should be competitive.

I think Stevenson blitz' him!
Lara should dominate Hearns

Re: ESPN and Showtime FNF thread for April 20th - Jermain Taylor back in action
Last night I watched some YouTube footage of Noe Gonzales and he looks to be a puncher with a little bit of boxing ability. I only viewed two of his fights so it's not in any way a conclusive evaluation. Although Sampson Lefkowitz believes he'll knock Stevenson out, I tend to favor Stevenson in this fight. Agreed?

The ESPN card starts @ 9:00 PM ET tonight, and the SHOBOX card starts @ 11:00 PM ET or right after the ESPN card, so we'll get to see all the fights. (if I can stay awake)

Hey no little league/nascar/volleyball/cup stacking/spelling bee in the way. Should start on time!
-
Re: ESPN and Showtime FNF thread for April 20th - Jermain Taylor back in action
Alrighty, here we go with the ESPN's FNF card, Teddy Atlas and Joe Tessitore calling the action from Montreal, Canada. First up - Eleider Alvarez vs. Rayco Saunders, 8 light heavyweights.
(check out those ring girls in Montreal)
A few Newcastle Brown Ales are on my menu tonight. :alcoholic:

Yup, it must be a mistake, ESPN's normal scheduler may be sick this week. :-X

Just the benefit of a slow day in sports in North America.
Saunders in there to get flattened.
-
Re: ESPN and Showtime FNF thread for April 20th - Jermain Taylor back in action
Good opener, Alvarez and Saunders look like they're both in shape, have some skills, and are ready to rumble.
-
Re: ESPN and Showtime FNF thread for April 20th - Jermain Taylor back in action
Waiting for Alvarez to drop that there right hand. On a side note he resembles a hulked up Juan urango and Tito
-
Re: ESPN and Showtime FNF thread for April 20th - Jermain Taylor back in action
Strange watching Saunders back up Alvarez when he wants to.
-
Looks like saunders gonna get ko'd
-
Re: ESPN and Showtime FNF thread for April 20th - Jermain Taylor back in action
Not a very entertaining fight so far, i'd say Alvarez is winning most of the rounds by being busier.
-
Re: ESPN and Showtime FNF thread for April 20th - Jermain Taylor back in action
Alvarez is playing along, waiting to me. I gave that one to Saunders, after I took it from Alvarez :-X
-
Re: ESPN and Showtime FNF thread for April 20th - Jermain Taylor back in action
This is usually the kind of fight we get, when they're touting someone as a power puncher.
-
Re: ESPN and Showtime FNF thread for April 20th - Jermain Taylor back in action
More intensity from Alvarez to start 5th. Good dictate.
-
Re: ESPN and Showtime FNF thread for April 20th - Jermain Taylor back in action
Saunders shows up to not get hurt, go some rounds, lose as expected, and pick up the paycheck.
I honestly think if Saunders let his hands go more tonight he could have made this a real fight.

He does look a bit like Tito.
Noa Gonzales may be a paper tiger, most of his fights (and KO's) have been in South America.

Re: ESPN and Showtime FNF thread for April 20th - Jermain Taylor back in action
I'm in the mood for some, KD's and KO's, not a bad opener, but I hope the main event is much better.
Alvarez wins a relatively easy UD, and improves to 8-0.
-
Re: ESPN and Showtime FNF thread for April 20th - Jermain Taylor back in action
That always kills me when announcers say that, 'its not his fault'. If a guy is doing just enough to survive you have to do more to convince him its not worth it...backed him nice with big punches in corner and really it looked like ref as looking for a reason to stop it a bit.
nice to see Kronk gold again!

Re: ESPN and Showtime FNF thread for April 20th - Jermain Taylor back in action
Nigel Collins? What's with the fucking earring, lmao.
-
Re: ESPN and Showtime FNF thread for April 20th - Jermain Taylor back in action
Nigel pointed out what we all know. The big name gets the benefit on the scorecards almost no matter what.

Re: ESPN and Showtime FNF thread for April 20th - Jermain Taylor back in action
gotta agree with Teddy here!
-
Re: ESPN and Showtime FNF thread for April 20th - Jermain Taylor back in action
Well said teddy. We all agree with you.
-
Re: ESPN and Showtime FNF thread for April 20th - Jermain Taylor back in action
Thats exactly what happened to Molina! Promotional member told him to dq, and after a 'meeting' with a judge at ringside he did just that. Teddy nailed it. He's not always total Slingblade.
