List of Boxers that Have Tested Positive for PED's
Let's keep a running tally of boxers that have tested positive at one time or the another for a performance enhancing drug. Let's only consider boxers that actually failed tests, not suspicions. It appears that a new name drops every few weeks. Here's a start although I'm sure that I'm missing a ton.
Brian Magee
J'Leon Love
Mickey Bey
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Lamont Peterson
Erik Morales
Andre Berto
Antonio Tarver
Mariusz Wach
Sam Solimon
Shane Mosley
Ali Adams
Franz Botha
James Toney
Fernando Vargas
Roy Jones
Evander Holyfield
Orlando Salido

larry olubamiwo springs to mind in the UK, he was swerving a 4 year ban but he's had it slashed now.

Re: List of Boxers that Have Tested Positive for PED's
That list just shows what an utter joke of a "sport" boxing is. You've got a bunch of "legends" listed there, yet in other sports you get caught you become a leper
-
Re: List of Boxers that Have Tested Positive for PED's
That is a sad list, some of my favourite fighters.

In Football (the American football) it's not all that big of a deal. Steroids, HGH....whatever makes you hit harder, run faster, jump higher, etc. I mean they still get banned for using those substances but people forget all about it after a while. The sport does (to an extent) glamorize the use of such PEDs...for example

i like what mike tyson said, steroids dont always make you a better fighter, i think thats why its not as frowned as other sports, that being said, if two guys are even in skill, the juicer wins, not fair, screwed up, we need to get rid of them, but there will always be a new one that can slip through tests

Re: List of Boxers that Have Tested Positive for PED's
I'm pleading ignorance but when did Holyfield actually fail a post fight? Since we're not talking suspicious or speculative? Didn't Virgil Hill get popped too? Richard Hall.
-
Did Chavez Fula a test for PED? I thought it was just weed,
-
Re: List of Boxers that Have Tested Positive for PED's
Boxing isn't the only sport, but I agree that this list is disappointing to say the least. Here in the U.S. Major League Baseball has and is still going through a major dark spot in that sport's history with PED's. They have a lot of legends as well that have had PED issues, and one of the biggest stars of the early 2000's ( Alex Rodrigez) is about to be crushed with penalties. It's more of a global sports problem in which boxing is not immune to. Look at cycling too. A mess.

In America the only sport you can't juice in is baseball, the same ESPN guys who said Floyd was a coward for asking for testing and even did a chicken dance are saying lifetime ban for baseball roids, steroids seem to be totally cool in every other sport here.

Re: List of Boxers that Have Tested Positive for PED's
We are all forgetting Larry. Maybe it's because his thread, like his 4 year ban, has now vanished onto the ether.

Tell that to Mark Mcguire and Barry Bonds

Looks like a short list to me, compared to the number of pro fighters. Yes, I believe a lot more pro boxers take some kind of banned substance. Hell, if we could say for sure these were the only pro boxers to cheat with drugs I'd say it was under control.
Some of us believe one cheater is too many, but with so much money involved cheating with drugs is here to stay, in my opinion.

I didn't it was the second post of the thread ;)

Re: List of Boxers that Have Tested Positive for PED's
I love Mayorga as a fighter but he also got caught using Diuretics along with Chavez Jr. Apparently, as well as help cut weight they also mask other substances in tests?

Holyfield didn't fail any tests but he got caught buying a whole range of steroids and other PEDs.
-
Re: List of Boxers that Have Tested Positive for PED's
Hill and Hall - good calls.
I'm sure there are tons more. Let's keep adding.

Barry Bonds was still one of the best players in baseball when he was blacklisted, Skip Bayless doesn't argue when guests bring up a lifetime ban for A-Rod. Mark got lucky but I'm a Dodger fan and I can tell you many of us were disgusted when the Dodgers brought him in as a coach, he's looked down on.

The guy who told on Braun and A-Rod says he has a 100 clients in his rolodexs including Boxers and MMAers, Gamboa is one for sure. Hope we get to hear those names.

Re: List of Boxers that Have Tested Positive for PED's
A good source is suggesting Guillermo Jones can be added with an A sample yielding the same diuretic as Chavez tested positive for.

Re: List of Boxers that Have Tested Positive for PED's
This thread makes me think back and wonder about Peds and the unwritten history going back a hundred years. Like Amphetamines when no testing existed and it was most likely in all sports. How many all time greats could have cheated?
-
Re: List of Boxers that Have Tested Positive for PED's
So, so many. I'd bet all kinds of things used to be in a fighters water bottle as well, that's a great point.
-
Re: List of Boxers that Have Tested Positive for PED's
What is the length of the ban for using peds in boxing?

Re: List of Boxers that Have Tested Positive for PED's
Its a real curve eh? Imagine the cheats in boxing when they were taking skin samples from females to prove they were females in track meets. Science has always been a block behind and yet I think most people today know full well that cheats are a matter of fact.

Absolutely, but Pacquiao refusing to take drug tests (originally at least) is inexcusable too. I want to limit this list to people that actually test positive.
-
Re: List of Boxers that Have Tested Positive for PED's
Well the scary thing is that guys like Mosley and Holyfield (at least to my knowledge) have never tested positive for PEDs. They just happened to be the unlucky one's whos lab was busted and receipts in their name were found.
That really goes to show you how effective drug testing in sports is, and you have to wonder how many of these guys who piss clean for all these years are actually using and cheating the tests.
-
Re: List of Boxers that Have Tested Positive for PED's
t Vitali Klitschko get caught juicing as an amateur?

Mariano Cerrera after he knocked out Javier Castillejo. Tested for "Clembuterol"???
Erbito Salavarria was found to be using "sugar water" as a stimulate after a draw and stripped of his trinket in 71'
