Was he wrong for making racist remark ? Btw it was in a private setting...

Racism is wrong, no matter what the setting. BTW, the article seems to point to the fact that Sterling is known as a racist. In this case what makes it worse is that he is a high-profile person, who happens to own an NBA team full of blacks.


There are some who will invariably try to excuse Sterling for any number of reasons. But you can't sugar-coat away comments made by a person such as this.

What a dumbass. It was a set up, but he's a little old fool. Nothing is in a private setting nowadays. At least assume it isn't.

Whatever it was, the timing couldn't be worse for the Clippers, currently locked in a tight playoff series. As a player, it's hard enough to concentrate on the game itself without having those needless distractions.

That's a hard one to defend, man.

A lot of times people make an off-colour joke or are caught using the dreaded "N-word" and it's blown out of proportion by a bunch of guilty white people who just want to point fingers and see other people get in trouble.

But remarks like this where it's malicious, where you are actually advocating staying away from black people like they are an inferior people, that's messed up.

Especially when you are involved in a business that is made up of, lets face it, mostly black athletes and a huge chunk of black fans.

It is racist and he shouldn't have said it, but the media is clearly obsessed with race and thus I am angry as I want to concentrate on day 55 of the missing airplane.

That can not be defended and shows you that racism still exists in society today. Imagine how he actions his thoughts, beliefs and attitudes with the bigotry views he holds?

He's the longest tenured owner in the NBA (since the passing of Dr. Jerry Buss who owned the Lakers) and was (up until recently) up for an NAACP Lifetime achievement award (a SECOND one to add to his previous one) :shakehead: ....like nobody knew about him (the real guy) before these tapes came out :rolleyes:


I am just astonished that a guy who has those feelings about different races willingly chose to own a team in the NBA where the majority of players are black. I mean it's mind boggling as to why he would choose to own an NBA team.


And again I will stress this, Donald Sterling is a liberal and there are PLENTY more like him in this world. Guys who want to help out the "underprivileged" because those people are naturally inferior and therefore NEED the help of big government or in this case a private civilian patron in order to live like humans rather than animals. They "help" in order to feel even more superior.

It's totally indefensible on a personal level, but being a raging bigot in private isn't a crime of course. Yeah, this was just the tip of the iceberg with this guy. Apparently he has been involved in housing discrimination lawsuits and has a long history of discrimination not only against blacks but various minorities. It is being reported that this guy has been a douche for awhile but it is just becoming known to a bigger audience. This guy has already made his money of the NBA so if they try to force him to sell the team it's kinda like....mehhh, he's 81 or something years old and he bought the clippers for 18 million and they are worth 500 million now. He's still winning as Charlie Sheen would say. This is going to be a polarizing issue no matter what because people all have different views on the subject but IMO the NBA f'd this up bad because they knew about this guy but the only color that matters is green. It'll be some fake outrage followed by blah blah blah but the only way he sells or does whatever the NBA wants him to do is if the people who are offended find a way to hit his pockets or the NBA's pockets or image.

He's not a GM or anything as well is he? It's obviously terrible for image, but I don't imagine owners actually have anything to do with how a team is run. Who are they even accountable to, how could anyone possibly "force" him to sell his team over a personal view? The guy sounds like a right piece of shit, but he is a billionaire and owns the team. It's true, there are a lot of double standards.

In fact, if this was reversed, there would be no problem. PLENTY of black men and women get angry when they see or hear of another black man/woman dating outside their race. Plenty get irked when they see other black people hanging out with white people, like they are somehow betraying their race.
This kind of opinion is looked at as just having pride as a black person.

It's a shame, there are a lot of racists and idiots on each side.

This doesn't let Sterling off the hook, though. His attitude is deplorable, especially considering he's in a business where most of his talent are black, and a large number of black fans are handing over their money to him. I think it's fair to ask him to step down.

We've all said questionable things in private, made offensive jokes, ect. If he got caught saying the N-word, I don't think it would be as big a deal. It's the ATTITUDE that's the problem. This isn't a guy who got caught saying something a little politically incorrect: this is a guy who, for whatever reason, is prejudiced negatively against black people.
