Alfonso Gomez headlines then Mendez vs. Barthelemy rematch on Fox Sports 1 7/9 & 7/10
Heads up. There IS boxing on the next couple of nights as promoted by the gentile gent known as Mike Tyson.
It'll be pretty good to see that rematch after the way the first fight ended after or at the bell.
Gomez is still ticking and gave a hell of a fight to red headed fuck a couple years back, so good luck to him.
Should be entertaining and SOMETHING to watch after no fights this past weekend to speak of.

Re: Alfonso Gomez headlines then Mendez vs. Barthelemy rematch on Fox Sports 1 7/9 &
Looking forward to seeing how Barthelemy vs Mendez plays out this time.

True but that shit is ppv.
Canelo is NOT a ppv fighter IMO. Not yet.

Re: Alfonso Gomez headlines then Mendez vs. Barthelemy rematch on Fox Sports 1 7/9 &
Cool, it's boxing at least. I didn't get the fuss about that stoppage, don't think Barthelemy intentionally threw late or anything, it was right at the bell and he just followed through. Mendez was just as caught up in the action and in no way had dropped his guard or anything, that was a clean KO in my book. I don't know either fighter well enough to guess how it plays out a second time though, hoping I can catch it.

If his PPV's turn a profit, than he's a PPV fighter. Based on his last couple of PPV, he's a PPV fighter

Re: Alfonso Gomez headlines then Mendez vs. Barthelemy rematch on Fox Sports 1 7/9 &
This guy has to be riding the longest "15 minutes" in the history of tv. I'd kinda like to see Gomez win though strictly based on Paredes needing bs catchweights for absolutely meaningless prior tune ups. Good to have action midweek but standard sleepwalking gbp product as of late.

He needed a catchweight? Wow. Missing weight seems to be contagious.

As we all know, anything can happen in a fight but I think we will see a pretty close copy of the last fight.
Of course, Teddy could be right, the stars will never again be aligned in just the right order to give Barthelemy a win over Mendez.
We'll find out fight night.

I'm really looking forward to this fight. I think we'll see a better effort from Mendez. But I don't know if it'll be enough for him to win

Last couple? You mean Floyd's ppv n then his tune up against Angulo that sold a lil over 300,000 at best?
He's hardly a proven ppv commodity. We ll see how this one does as no one knows his opponent outside hardcore fans. It's all on him.

Re: Alfonso Gomez headlines then Mendez vs. Barthelemy rematch on Fox Sports 1 7/9 &
It be on! I can't help but see a little bit o' early Victor Ortiz in young De La Hoya here
-
Re: Alfonso Gomez headlines then Mendez vs. Barthelemy rematch on Fox Sports 1 7/9 &
Talk about a early southpaw mix up! Diaz taking some unnecessary clips laying in there vs Robles. very solid hands though. Paulie here must feel like he has been paired with guy from a temp agency here on the mic
-
Re: Alfonso Gomez headlines then Mendez vs. Barthelemy rematch on Fox Sports 1 7/9 &
That was a fun fight, Diaz needed that.
-
Re: Alfonso Gomez headlines then Mendez vs. Barthelemy rematch on Fox Sports 1 7/9 &
Wow. Really Saddo brethren ??? This is def not old school..
Anyway...Gomez vs Paredes at the bell. Yippy

Re: Alfonso Gomez headlines then Mendez vs. Barthelemy rematch on Fox Sports 1 7/9 &
Fights over. Even with suffering two Kds..one iffy, second legit imo, have Gomez scraping and clawing his way to victory here. Cards inbound...
edit- Gomez WIDE! 99-92 etc etc. Yeh. Off to the next gbp PPV undercard where he can be sparked out..again. He did earn the win here. Paredes looked crap

GBP had a good, solid, and entertaining card tonight, Diaz Jr. vs Ramiro Robles was very good and reminded me a little of Guerrero vs Kamegai. Nonstop action due to the relentless pressure of Robles. The right guy won, but I thought it was much closer.

Hate to disagree with you, but I had doubts about both those KDs. The thing I couldn't get over was how well Gomez did after a two year layoff. He wants to go for a belt ASAP so I guess this was a tuneup fight for him and his team.
The right guy won, but it seemed like two of the judges ignored the two KDs.

Good fights.
Gomez was just the better, busier and smarter fighter. I honestly felt paderes was very unimpressive for having 35 wins.
Diaz looked sharp and a future titlist or at least contender.

Hahaha. I agree about Diaz and wouldn't be surprised to see Robles standing somewhere very close to him. Robles is a gritty little fucker and relentless, I expected him to slow up but it never happened. That was a very good fight with Robles being a big part of the reason why.
What did you guys think about Diego De La Hoya?

Diego looked good and was finding openings well to land hard shots. Its still too early to tell exactly where he might end up. The guy he fought was tough and not much else.

Canelito's ppv with Angulo did 350,000 buys.
Those are Mayweather/Baldomir numbers.
He is not a ppv fighter.

Yeh the first looked bad, and honestly it looked like Bayliss realized he blew it but still went through the routine. Second was sweeping hook off shoulder then back. No where clean at all but the way Gomez caved down, right leg went out, I'd say it was ok. Gomez has never liked anything to the left side.
Not sure what to make of Diego De La Hoya, way early. Certainly has the fire and picks spots with both hands well. But gives up distance and swaps when not needed, he was getting touched by sloppy shots. One things for certain he did in 6 fights what it took Gary Russell 23 to do and that's ko Tomato.

When I saw where Paredes was from, I remembered that line about him having 35 wins and cracked up. That part of the world is noted for producing guys with gaudy records that can't fight. And Paredes can't fight a lick. Watch the fight and see how many times he throws a right hand and falls out because his balance is bad. Same thing if he throws two punches, his feet aren't right for the third, and the third punch tells when it comes to balance. He is too far on his front foot too often, so he can't close distance or counter.
Gomez shouldn't be misled by this fight. He fought a so-so amateur. The guy couldn't fight at all so he beat him. But he is very very shot. Both 'knockdowns' came because his balance was bad- he was reaching and his legs weren't enough for him. He is slapping every punch he throws, except his jab and he pokes with that.

Iron Mike Productions
Lubin v Bolanos
Savigne v Lacy
Mendez v Barthelemy

Re: Alfonso Gomez headlines then Mendez vs. Barthelemy rematch on Fox Sports 1 7/9 &
The writings on the wall when a guy wears all the added weight on his belt line

Lubin and Bolanos in the ring now.
Lubin has all the speed and Bolanos can't avoid the punches.
3-0 Lubin
-
Re: Alfonso Gomez headlines then Mendez vs. Barthelemy rematch on Fox Sports 1 7/9 &
Lubin reminds me of someone else who also lays inside, advertises his punches prior and plays to the cameras, but trying to be positive here ;D
If he actually sets up off range and combo, its all over already

Do you think he accepts clinches too often? Kinda looks like a kid playing with his food
-
Re: Alfonso Gomez headlines then Mendez vs. Barthelemy rematch on Fox Sports 1 7/9 &
Can somebody shoot me a link?
-
Re: Alfonso Gomez headlines then Mendez vs. Barthelemy rematch on Fox Sports 1 7/9 &
Lubin is going to have rude awakenings with left hooks unless he learns to shoot a jab and put them together. Looked a bit lackadaisical. But impressive at 18
-
Re: Alfonso Gomez headlines then Mendez vs. Barthelemy rematch on Fox Sports 1 7/9 &
It's so crazy to see Lacy still at it. Always liked the dude but was just one who never found that 2nd gear.

Physically gifted and inexperienced. I think he is going to be very good.

Re: Alfonso Gomez headlines then Mendez vs. Barthelemy rematch on Fox Sports 1 7/9 &
My god. Savigne looks like a damn heavyweight! Still. Lacy being manhandled
-
Re: Alfonso Gomez headlines then Mendez vs. Barthelemy rematch on Fox Sports 1 7/9 &
lacy... man, this isn't soccer. it's a man's sport!
-
Re: Alfonso Gomez headlines then Mendez vs. Barthelemy rematch on Fox Sports 1 7/9 &
That was sad man. Lacy had no business in there
-
Hope Lacy retires, he should have been long gone. Beating Lacy is no feather in Savigne's cap, in my opinion.
-
Edison Miranda too. Damn, Tyson has work for the veterans. Miranda is getting his ass kicked and making the young Cuban work.
