Tyson Fury to fight Christian Hamer
Fury risks Wladimir Klitschko world title bout by agreeing Hammer fight in February -
Fury said: “I’ve said all along I’m not like these other fighters in the division who pussy foot around, take soft touches and call themselves fighters.
“I could have taken an easy job at the O2 arena to keep my position safe for my world title fight against Klitschko, but that’s not what Tyson Fury is about or what the public want to see from someone who has promised from day one to win the world heavyweight title.
“On paper it’s a dangerous job against Hammer, he’s highly ranked, he brings a big punch with him, he’ll have ambitions of his own to beat me and grab himself a world title shot against Klitschko and I’m sure he’ll be full of confidence coming over here.”
Hammer, a former WBO European Champion who has 10 stoppages out of 17 wins, will be looking to cause a huge upset by being the first to defeat Fury and earn himself a shot at Klitschko.

Re: Tyson Fury to fight Christian Hamer
Good he's keeping busy... Save us the talk though fury... A 6 foot 2 guy with a 58% ko ratio and 2 KO losses should be a mediocre threat at best when you're the self proclaimed finest physical specimen and fighter alive.
-
Re: Tyson Fury to fight Christian Hamer
Hammer has done well since getting clocked by Mariusz Wach in '09. He'll be on pins & needles as its his first time in England and the crowd noise will be a tremendous factor for him.
'Bout time Fury steps up and fights. Big Dude should be fighting 4 times a year.

Re: Tyson Fury to fight Christian Hamer
Would we rather he just sit round while Wlad, Jennings, Wilder, Stiverne are all tied up?
-
Re: Tyson Fury to fight Christian Hamer
Shit fight, but you don't get paid for doing fuck all. I would have thought they would've got someone a bit bigger if they're so certain they'll be facing Wlad soon

Bigger doesn't mean better.
Name a better opponent for feb 28th.

Re: Tyson Fury to fight Christian Hamer
Lucas browne or david price at least.
Hammer is a shit opponent i agree.

Why not the man who chinned Hammer out? A less mobile version of Wlad who Fury probably couldn't knock out with a cricket bat, perfect.
-
Haven't seen Hamer fight, so I'm hoping for some good action and more experience for Fury.
The Brits have a short memory where Tyson is concerned. In one recent thread most everyone agreed, aside from the habitual naysayers, that Tyson is an unfinished product and isn't ready for Wlad yet. Now all I'm hearing is complaints about the opponent. Does it really matter that Hamer is smaller than Wald or doesn't have a huge punch, Tyson is still gaining the experience he needs.
Tyson is probably coached about what to say. If he isn't coached, he should become a promoter or go into politics, because he's as convincing with the BS as the best of them.
I'm not saying it's wrong or a
character flaw, yet. Lol

Fury vs Wach would be a war IMO neither super huge punchers, neither like to "box", both are relatively easy to hit. I think that would be a dangerous fight for Fury at this point.
Face facts, Tyson Fury is young, he's got time to develop, he's caught at a time where there are few worthy "dance partners" as it were, and Fury before the Chisora rematch had been out a long time, he deserves a warm up bout or two A) to get some money and B ) to get prepared for his title run.
Now that said Tyson can take all the time he wants to he's not beating Wladimir Klitschko

Im happy to wait for you and everyone else to be proven wrong;)

Re: Tyson Fury to fight Christian Hamer
What will I be proven wrong about? Tyson Fury has shown me NOTHING to say he's a threat to Wladimir. His chin isn't all that great, his power is sub par (especially considering his size), his work rate is so-so, and his boxing ability is nowhere near Wlad's class.
How would a Tyson Fury victory over Wladimir Klitschko happen? Explain to me the step by step process Tyson will go through to win the titles off Wlad. I know how a Wlad victory over Fury might go...either Wlad establishes the jab and boxes Fury into submission OR Wlad says "fuck this dude, I'm ending it early" and bombs Fury out with either the right cross OR the left hook because Tyson Fury has fought nobody like Wladimir, none with his skill, none with his power....Wlad has fought guys bigger than himself and he has always...repeat ALWAYS won

Furys work rate is not "so so" his boxing ability does not include mostly hugging, holding, leaning etc. wlads chin also is well below greatness. How many times has he been stopped? Dropped?
Fury is a threat and you know it.

People have been saying "I'm going to check Wladimir's glass chin" for TEN YEARS NOW! and there have been guys who are a lot better punchers than Tyson Fury that have said that.
Complain about clinching all you like, Wlad wins fights, he wins by KO, and he'll KO Tyson Fury...hate to break it to you but that WILL happen.
Fury's workrate is pedestrian, he's been knocked down by a CRUISERWEIGHT who had like 10-12 stoppages out of 25 wins at the time....so don't tell me Wlad's chin is the one that's dodgy.
What power puncher has Fury fought? What top boxer has Fury fought? Wlad is the BEST in the division and there is absolutely 0 argument about it (among sane people)

If Brown and Price are so dangerous why are they still fighting nobodies and journeymen?
They are being matched carefully against low level fighters because they have big limitations.
Who is the highest ranked either has beaten?
Rankings do mean something, especially the boxrec ones as they are independent and worked out by a scoring system. The reason hammer is far ahead of any of those others is because he has been beating much better fighters!
Ranking doesn't mean anything? Thats like saying "just because hes a better fighter, doesn't make him a better fighter!!!!!"
;D

Re: Tyson Fury to fight Christian Hamer
The boxrec system is far from perfect, no system is.
A Price fight would at least show us Fury's skills once he's lost a height and reach advantage, would be more interesting than him fighting yet another shorter heavy.

How would he lose a height and reach advantage over Price?
Tyson is an inch taller and has a 3" reach advantage.
It makes me laugh when you all say you want to see him fight someone he wont have a height and reach advantage over because there is no one that he wouldn't!
-
Re: Tyson Fury to fight Christian Hamer
Obviously... But with a guy of Price's build it would be largely negated... Stop being pedantic, I'n not saying he has to be the EXACT same fucking height, just remotely close... :vd:
Surely even you can figure out that 3 inches in reach and an inch in height isn't as significant an advantage as the 9-11 inches in reach and 5-7 inches in height that Fury usually enjoys?
His camp want no part of the taller heavies, he needs to fight a few taller heavies before standing a chance against Wlad, the way he boxes against all these 6 foot 1-3" guys isn't going to cut it at all.

He can fight Hans Christian Anderson for all I care, all he is is a makeweight for Hughie. EU JR on the undercard again to make sure someone actually attends the show or pays Poxnation, Happy New Year!

Rankings DEFINITELY do not always mean much, clearly better fighters are often ranked below shitter ones and boxrecs scoring system is obviously flawed in this regard.
IBO rankings are more legit as are Ring and fight News rankings but there are no ideal ways to rank fighters really.

Re: Tyson Fury to fight Christian Hamer
Boxrec are the fairest. Its a scoring system. Its not a sanctioning body or magazine with influence that make money.
As for height, Tysons 6th opponent Scott Belshaw is 6.7" Tyson fought him when Scott only had one loss and on points, he had a record of 10.1.0.

Boxrec is demonstratably among the worst. It artificially constructs ratings to put the most popular boxers at the top obviously through a scoring system that does not make any sense at all.
Have you actually read the rules that Boxrec applies?
Browne is obviously a more dangerous and much better opponent than Hammer you fool!
Fury is not ALLOWED to fight Browne for that reason!
The IBO might be a sanctioning body but it's entire purpose was designed to specify who the REAL champion is as opposed to the corruption of the major bodies. Since atleast one of the champs of the major 4 are the REAL champ, for this reason the IBO belt is normally always tied up with a major belt also.
-
Re: Tyson Fury to fight Christian Hamer
Boxrec have 46-year-old Antonio Tarver rated as the 7th best heavyweight in the world. He's had TWO fights at the weight - Mike Sheppard (21-15-1) and Johnathon Banks (29-2-1).
Unless you can explain exactly why that is fair, I suggest you never bring up boxrec rankings again.

Jonothan banks is better than anyone Wilder, Browne and Price have faced. Its also how he beat him. Pretty easily.

No wonder everyone thinks you're a prick. You know fuck all.
Show me what makes Browne more dangerous than Hammer;D
Hughie Fury is going to piss on your chips. Tyson Furys little cousin and sparring partner is going to beat Brownes best opponent much easier than Browne managed.

Jonathon Banks best wins are Eliseo Castillo who can't punch a hole through the surface tension of water and Seth Mitchell who doesn't even know how to box and can't take a hard punch either.
He has never been a major contender and never will be because he is the trainer of Wladimir Klitschko.
Antonio Tarver is a veteran boxer and was a multiple champ at sub HW but his credibility at HW was non-existent and he climbed the rankings to the top 10 by beating an unranked and irrelevant opponent.
WTF is wrong with you?
I once wrote an article "What the heck, Boxrec" I will try find it LOL

Okay... so beating Banks, who was coming off a loss, justifies being rated the 7th best fighter in the world? If the win is that impressive then why is Seth Mitchell, the man that beat Banks before Tarver, not currently rated in the top 100 by Boxrec? Chris Arreola, the man that knocked Seth Mitchell out in 1 round, is currently ranked 19th.
Jonathan Banks DREW with Jason Gavern.
Lucas Browne knocked Gavern out in round 3 and Wilder knocked Gavern out in round 4. Michael Sprott beat Gavern. Anthony Joshua destroyed Sprott in one round.
So why is Banks better than them? And how does Tarver's win make him a top ten heavyweight?

Ok, I never noticed Tarver has gone to 7! That is daft. Top 30 maybe top 20. They must have used points from his light heavy career. Theres no way he should be higher than Cunningham thats for sure.
Maybe I stand corrected but it would also be a fact if Browne were to face Hammer that would be his best opponent by a mile and Hammer would stand every chance of winning.

How is Chavez Jr the number 2 168 fighter in the world after only having 1 fight at the weight against a low ranked middleweight who had never fought at super middle before? Seems perfectly fair.

Im not sure there is much between Rudenko and Hammer to be honest. Even a shit old Toney would have a good chance of beating Hammer if in a neutral venue.
Its an easy fight for Fury but its a lot better then I was expecting. He has earned his mandatory position. Why take a bigger risk then necessary to lose it?

Wow, 10 fights against guys with shockingly poor records and he's been knocked out in all but one of his 6 fights (losses) since. Fury must have RUINED him
I take it back, Fury is proven against high calibre tall heavies, bring on Wlad :vd:

Thats a dangerous fight for a rising fighter.
Its not a known quantity. An old name that everyone knows what they are going to get from. He was undefeated, no one knew who he was and is a puncher.
Again. Think like a manager. Putting undefeated, big, unknown punchers against your fighter is dangerous. Ask Warren about when he put Khan in with Prescott;)
Tyson fought Nasciemento in his 14th fight. Who did Wlad fight in his 14th fight and what was their record like? In fact, same goes for Stiverne and Wilder!

Wlad fought a guy who was 84-18 and in my mind woulkd be undoubtedly better then Nasciemento. Again this is where you reading of records makes you look like a fool. First of all Nasciemento is not an unknown quantity to the matchmaker. These guys are scouted and seen that they are not risks. No promoter is going to throw their guy in with fighters they havent seen before.
In general a domestic journeyman will be far better then the "unbeaten" foreign fighter. By foreing I mean eastern european or south american who has never won out of his home country. Most of these guys records are not reliable and some of their "pro" wins come from a fight in their own gym with no crowd and no certified ref or judges. These guys pose virtually no threat to the home fighter and the promoter can pay them less then the domestic journeymen. It also glams up his fighters resume to part time fans. Oh so and so just blasted out an undefeated fighter. It was used for Joshua in his first fight, for Price against unbeated Dallas when fighters like Skelton are actually more dangerous.

Creme de la creme... :vd:
I do wonder how you got your job. This along with big punches beat weak chins;D
Furys 14th opponent was unbeaten in 13 fights with 10 knockouts. Is 6,5" and was 29
Jerry Halstead, Wlads 14th opponent on the other hand who you think is more dangerous had a record of 84,18,1 with 11 of his losses coming by KO!!! Is only 6,1"!! And was 34..... Previous to fighting Wlad he lost to a cruiser weight and was proper KO'd inside 1 round by Jeremy Williams! Thats half the time it took Wlad by the way!
Are you taking the piss!!?
Are you really a boxing odds compiler?
;D;D;D;D
Also, do you know what Stiverne was doing in his 14th fight? Coming back from being stopped..... Oh and Wilders opponent had 34 losses and in Wilders previous fight he was dragging himself off the floor against a complete nobody called Sconiers!
