This thread is to see who the populist choice for the past its sell by date fight of the century is. Personally, I want Manny to win simply because he is the man who fights live opponents, isn't scared to lose, and will take risks in order to get his job done. In other words he has incredible balls which must now make me a Pac nut hugger. We all cling on together with the hope that the act will be over prematurely in our favour. Go, go Manny!
Brothers and Sisters, I've saying for ten years Floyd is the best fighter in the world. He may suck as a human but he's still the best. So I pulling for Money.
Live opponents isn't a fair comparison because it's all relative. He fought Marquez 4 times. Mayweather would get brutalized if he did the same thing because Marquez has absolutely no chance to ever beat Floyd.Quote:

Well, Pac fought Marquez at different weights and P4P they are fair opponents for one another. Marquez was just far too small and unprepared to fight Mayweather who had been at the weight for a long time. Of course it would be bizarre for Mayweather to fight Marquez 4 times.
In terms of common opponents, is it not a fact that mini Manny has also beaten them far more ably and easily than Floyd who has been WW at above for a very long time? Not bad for a tiny little man. Cotto pounded. DLH dusted. Mosley massacred. Hatton hammered. But Marquez is to define this fight? I'm not so sure that is the case.
Manny was finally doing a number on Marquez in the 4th fight and just got sloppy. Manny has also shown more strings to his bow in recent years. Mayweather on the other hand is losing his legs and is getting tagged a lot. He cannot afford to have no legs and get tagged too much against Manny.
I think output and activity will be the difference in this one. Maybe a bit like Calzaghe/Hopkins except Pac can hit harder and Mayweather will perhaps try to spoil even more.
I truly want Manny to win. I lean towards pactardish but to be honest what I truly want to see is one of the greatest fights ever fought. I know that's asking a lot. Both of these guys peaked and are no longer at points where skills will improve but they may both be able to pull something beautiful out of their asses. Please, let it be a beautiful fight, I have a lot of respect for Floyd's boxing but I hope he's not on his bike all night and we get to see some engagement. I know it's not going to be toe to toe but I hope they both are willing to get down.
Conflicted describes the way I feel. I'd like to see Manny win, I like the man. I also want to see Floyd best that 49-0 record of Marciano's. It would be a shame to see Floyd get this close and fail.
A win for Manny is a win for boxing. A refreshing breeze for the sport.

I'd much rather just see a good fight, think that's more likely to happen if Manny could pull it off so I'll say him. The worst outcome would be a dull or one sided fight with both guys looking their age, considering the dog shit undercard and how many people new to boxing will watch it.

I've been a huge Floyd fan for over 10 years, he's the TBE, the GOAT, and he will stop Pacquaio.
For the sake of the sport, I want Manny to win. Technically it seems like a long shot but boxing needs it because this trend of fighters believing they are bigger than the sport and trying to change it to suit their liking needs to stop. It sends the wrong message.
Mayweather isn't the only offender of course, but Al haymon uses his example to influence other fighters and validate that being a nitpicking, diva with no regards for the ranking system, the fans, honor, tradition, fair play, and the warriors code is fine as long as you're paychecks getting bigger. That getting rich makes you bigger than life and puts you above people and entitles you to beat women, and berate people who don't recognize you and threaten people. Even the fighters not under the haymon banner are gleaning this arrogance.
I recognize Mayweathers right to spend his money anyway he wants and fight whatever style in the ring regardless of the perceived excitement level of his detractors. I was a fan and still am of his skill and technical prowess, and I do think part of this money Mayweather business is a contrived wwe like persona.. At the same time he's wasting his most valuable resource. His influence on up and coming fighters by turning everything around him into his own private circus where he makes the rules. I only fight this fighter for this money and he can only wear these gloves... So much for competition.
If manny wins, it may not change fighters like khan thinking that the boxing world should wait for him to stop fasting or him only fighting people he thinks are worthy despite his losses, non champion status, etc ; It may not stop a shop worn cotto from holding a belt hostage and fighting the bundrages of the world so he can claim some mythical aside /bside influence; It may not prevent someone like wilder from thinking hes the greatest fighter who ever lived because he beat a pudgy stiverne who fought the wrong fight and then proclaiming hes king of the world because he knows how to throw a one two... It wont keep the danny garcia's from ripping to hapless over matched rod selkas like a monkey on a cupcake to restore their rep and draw.. hell it might not even be able to finally flush away that idiot broner for good....
But it could be a start and a remind of what boxing used to be. A sport of men, for warriors that knew what it was to show courage in defeat, mercy in heat of battle and humility in the grand scheme of life in and out of the ring.... and restore the balance to that of a time where a good old fashioned lights out punch in the face was any fighters reality check and the cure for spoiling, clowning, diva demands, and the "A- Side mentality"... Leaving aside all the PED controversies, I'd like Mayweather to win because I like that boxing style. I always want defensive boxers to win but more than that I'm just looking forward to a really good fight with a bit of back and forth. The closer it gets, the more I think it will be that way, but that's probably because the idea is all over the web already.

Manny didn't look spectacular against journeyman Algieri or Rios did he?
I want Manny to win but I believe he will lose to Floyd because Mayweather will deal with the southpaw style and high work rate by countering Pacquiao. Manny will also be more reluctant to engage after the horrific knockout he suffered against Marquez and therefore he will not take the necessary chances he needs to win this fight. In short Manny is old and shop worn.
