I thought Porter would be too strong for him at first but the catchweight has to be a massive worry. Not only is a former middle/light middle being forced to weigh in at 145 but he's not allowed to weigh above 155 on the night.
If Porter isn't dead he will walk through him.
Broner.
Neither fighter is even remotely close to as good as they were hyped to be at one time. That said both are good fighters with exciting styles. Porter lacks head movement and punch recognition so the question is can he walk through Broner. If Broner can turn it into a boxing match he should win easily. If Porter can turn it into a fight Broner will probably slow and lose on points.
Adrien Broner is in for the beating of his life.
The catch weight stuff is a pain in the ass but I think Porter will deal with it.
Does anyone know what porter usually weights on fight night ?
See I think Broner gets underrated because he's one of the biggest dickheads in the sport, but he is skilled and can box well. Porter is a gatekeeper in my eyes and is just gunna walk into Broner's shots. I think Al will be hoping and praying Broner wins as his awful personality is an easier ticket seller so the close rounds will be going AB's way.
I've grown to enjoy watching Broner in fights. Had this fight been at 147, however, I would pick Porter, but the catch weight makes me less sure. Even with the catch weight though, it's one of the better PBC fights that has been made. Porter needs the win to stay relevant. Same for Broner.
A focused Broner is gonna pick Porter apart in the 2nd half of the fight. After the 6th, Porter is going to turn into a one-dimensional brawler in desperation.
At first, this fight looked fairly even on paper, but Broner has some glaring advantages, especially if you put personal biases aside.
Broner seems like a complete tool, but he showed some heart in the Maidana beatdown. I think he's a lot tougher than some people think. I think Porter may get to him, though. Either way it should be fairly interesting to watch.
Broner is tough as nails, but Porters gonna box his body out of breath its more than he can handle buddy
Porter got out boxed by Brook I don't see why a focused Adrian Broner wouldn't be able too. It depends which version of the guy shows up. If the Broner that fought Maidana shows up Porter beats him. But I'd the Broner that easily out boxed Molina shows up Broner picks him apart. Porter needs to fight like he did in the Alexander fight. I think it's a 50/50 fight. But I'll go with Broner.
The catchweight bs and 155 same night max is a huge detriment to Porter. He relies on that bullish strength and that's why its there. He will be lucky not to resemble a drawn out Geale but that's where the comparison ends. Broner is a sucker for right hands and in the process of altering his style. If he sticks with that horse-shoe wiiide stance on flat feet trying to pot shot I think Porter can beat him up. He did show a nice jab AND a mobile backfoot..finally... with Molina though in reality Molina threw very little and moved like he was wearing concrete trunks. Its a damn good fight but the unnecessary catchweight again adds an asterisk for me personally. Broner looks like a blinged out giant potato in between fights and its comical for a guy who has failed weight before and literally told network execs 'I don't give a fuck if your show is canceled' to be given a crutch like this.
I was talking about this fight this morning and I said I fancy Broner to win if he can keep it to a boxing match, I'm not 100% about it though, it could go either way but I would be slightly favouring Broner
Broner to be brutalized and may quit on his stool by the 10th.
I think the rehydration clause is a pile of crap. How is a fighter even supposed to prepare for that, and what happens if Porter is over 155 fight night, it's off? Assuming he handles it, I think it's an even fight, but that's a big ask as it seems like a clear handicap.
Wouldn't it be a riot if Broner came in heavy:rolleyes:
You prepare for the rehydration clause by properly managing your weight. Floyd doesn't blow up and Guerrero only gained 5 for the Thurman fight. And if you don't like the terms of the contract, don't take the fight. If you get railroaded on the terms of the deal, blame your manager.
Floyd is in the minority, he has made his way up to welterweight and probably used to walk around lighter than he weighs in now. Guerrero as well was a lightweight not that long ago, they aren't the norm for welters.
Same day weigh ins may well be a good idea, but as long as they don't have them, the vast majority of fighters rehydrate well over the limit they are fighting at. Just seems like this is in place strictly to limit Porter. What if he struggles to get down to 145 but does everything he can, it couldn't be easy to be sure he would also gain no more than 10 pounds after cutting weight, especially when it's something he's never done before?
Porter should have rolled up the clause and told Broner to shove it up his arse. But he couldn't, he needed the 'big' fight and settled on the opponent role. The deck was stacked. Broner is the last to be afforded such nonsense just as he told Escobedo to fook off..and the fans..by blowing weight not once but twice and coming in 147 for a jr lightweight fight. Forfeiting the the belt in the process. It's a charade.
I hope Porter beats the SHIT out of him.;D
Was watching a few interviews tonight with Ken porter he's super confident he was calling out mayweather to put up some big money on broner saying the porters will match any and all bets so put your money up big brother lol it was quite funny. Can't wait for this fight think it's a real even fight.
I hope Porter wins just hope he is not strong and does not do a Geale.
Great fight. Really great fight. Excellent match up. Truly 50/50 fight.
I thought Porter was unlucky to lose to Brook. It was a close fight. But given that the the challenger has to win. I don't think Brook won it hands down. Though I don't think Brook getting the nod was a bad decision.
As to this fight ? I think it's almost certain to go the distance and it could even be such a close decision, that the loser could rightfully claim that they won. I don't see either fighter winning easily.
Porter is similar to Maidana in that he's high pressure coming forward type. Indeed I see Porter as better than Maidana, so Broner really has his work cut out to win this one.
And you know what ? I think he will. There is too much at stake for him to lose. Where will he go ? I think he learnt a lot from the Maidana defeat and see him biting down and going toe to toe with Porter and eeking out a narrow UD.
I originally thought Porter but the weight won't help him any.
Has the potential to be an exciting fight. I think Broner wins.
If porter rushes him he can win.
Its getting to the point now though where these "contracts" on an individual fight basis are railroading the sport. Now maybe thats Haymons motive but its not as if these two are not the same size give or take a few pounds. Lets see any of these people make weight the morning of the fight. That would solve all the bullshit in one move. I mean this has reduced a fringe contenders contest to a meaningless joke. These clowns are going to have to start naming some of these new divisions soon and stop calling them catchweights.
If there was no catch weight involved, i don't see it being too different from Maidana - Broner, but i think Porter will be hit pretty bad with the weight and will probably run out of steam and ideas before losing on points. I hope Porter steams him though.
Broner on points in an interesting fight. I would be happy if Porter knocks him out though. ;D
whats the odds on this fight does anyone know?
Been watching a lot of videos interviews the last day on porter vs broner I hope porter fucks broner up. That broner is just so hard to like and porter seems like a really genuine guy. Porter for the win lets go!
Porter is going to beat the shit out of Broner. Porter has said the weight thing is no big deal, and in fact he has done the 10lb rehydration limit in his last few fights.
Porter's too big, hits too hard and has too good of a work rate. Unless we see a new, slicker version of Adrien Broner, a guy who uses his legs more and effectively ties up on the inside, he's going to get busted up. The Broner I've seen is not going to beat Shawn Porter.
I'm delighted to read this. Broner has his own issues making weight too. He was in the sauna for a week to make 140 and he keeps blowing up between fights like Hatton. Broner picking a weight that he thinks he can make but will fuck the other guy and then having a rehydration clause is bullshit though. It's not just catchweights anymore, it's bloody rehydration clauses now. I hope Porter splatters him.
Adrian " I'm one of the biggest names in boxing" Broner. Be a real shame if Porter puts fatty on his arse. Be an even bigger shame if he got knocked spark out.
Easy to think Porter is a bit limited and over rated after losing to Brook but Kell worked bloody hard for that and was clever with it. Broner might end up being lucky to escape early with a knockout. I think Porter may well do a number on him. RSF at some point midway.
