Jorge Linares v Luke Campbell Sept. 23 HBO/Sky Sports
Like the look of this one and nice to see it kicking off at the L.A Forum. Watched a little bit of Campbell and think he may have the frame to give Linares some tough spots, cuffing shots may help also :-X but overall Linares would appear just way too well rounded at this stage. Crazy to think these two are only separated by 2 years in age as Linares has been through the grinder and come back to form. Campbell on the other hand is coming off possibly biggest win with great momentum, could be catching Linares at right time if he forces the issue.

Re: Jorge Linares v Luke Campbell Sept. 23 HBO
I like Campbell, it seems like he has been around for fucking ages, I couldn't believe it when I read that his loss came in 2015.
I don't think he causes Linares any problems and think it'll be the 4th UK boxer that he defeats and it'll give Sky Sports to crawl even further up his arse, for some reason they absolutely adore him, I'm guessing that it is just because he keeps beating matchrooms fighters so they need to make him out to be invincible.
Good fight though
-
Linares will want Warrington next which would be another good pay day for him. He should give Eddie a discount for all his fighters he has beaten.
-
Re: Jorge Linares v Luke Campbell Sept. 23 HBO
This is another very good fight for 2017. Linares has to be the fave but theirs always that niggling that his skin or chin will let him down. I wouldn't be surprised at all with the upset here.

Re: Jorge Linares v Luke Campbell Sept. 23 HBO
Don't want to start a thread about it so this seems as good a place to ask as any.... What is up with the Flanagan/Verdejo fight, is that scrapped?

Last I heard was that Flanagan was injured and Verdejo was taking a stay busy fight in the interim.

Re: Jorge Linares v Luke Campbell Sept. 23 HBO
Looks great on paper. Remember Linares was getting outboxed by Kevin Mitchell in spots not long ago (50-50 before Kev turned into the elephant man), Campbell has the rangy box style with a deceptive dig to make it interesting, especially when you factor in Jorges frailties.
Ironically after spending so much time in England lately Linares has just moved to London and trains at Haye's gym, yet ends up finally being given a headline slot by Golden Boy/HBO in LA against a Brit.
-
Good scrap this. I like Campbell and when he turned pro, I thought he would go all the way.
Linares is a quality fighter and will probably be favourite, but if Campbell wants to get to the top , this is exactly the fight he needs to win. You never know.
I'm looking forward to this. Yet another good fight for 2017.

i had something to say but my browser took so long to open the page I forgot what it was

Re: Jorge Linares v Luke Campbell Sept. 23 HBO
I don't fancy Campbell in this unless Linares starts leaking. It's a weird fight for HBO to show.

Campbell was a great amateur but it is such a different game and Linares will make him work for scraps that other fighters would drop in his lap. Could be a small classic with such a balance of skill sets. Linares should have too much for him but I think like you said Campbells reach and style may be all wrong for him.

Re: Jorge Linares v Luke Campbell Sept. 23 HBO
Linares is awesome technician and been brilliant for years just had some minor lapses. He is on a good run and only Garcia can beat him at the weight.

Be interested to see how they fill out the card. Surely they have to playing catchup with cards as the Mayweather carnival on Showtime ppv is going to eclipse the Cotto fight the same night on regular HBO. Odd when you think about it that Linares some 15+ years in will be on it's air for the very first time.
-
Re: Jorge Linares v Luke Campbell Sept. 23 HBO
Campbell has improved vastly since the Mendy fight.

For what limited budget they have now HBO are making some strange decisions. I don't think there'll be much of an undercard for this one. As far as the main event goes I can't get over Campbell getting beaten by Mendy was it. He looked like a little boy. He hasn't operated at anything like the level Linares has. Add on the fact he's away from home and I don't fancy his chances too much.

Yeah what's with Eddie Hearn getting his fighters asses kicked by Jorge Linares. He must love Hearn giving him these easy paydays.
luke is still work in progress and nowhere near ready for this level. I can understand them needing to let him off the leash sooner or later but it's not that long ago he was fighting Derry Mathews. He got dropped and beat by Mendy and the battle of hull vs Tommy coyle is a far cry from what he'll be up against with Linares especially away from home.
Brave move but early prediction is that if you stay up to watch this in the middle of the night don't expect a glorious away from home win for the Brit. It'll be worth watching if you admire the silky smooth skills of the champ but if not catch it on the Sunday morning replay instead

Re: Jorge Linares v Luke Campbell Sept. 23 HBO
there's a lot of quality in this fight isn't there
perhaps more than it is given credit for, may even be going under the radar a bit
-
Re: Jorge Linares v Luke Campbell Sept. 23 HBO
Yeah it's a shame but there are quite a few big fights coming up that are stealing the attention at the minute
-
Re: Jorge Linares v Luke Campbell Sept. 23 HBO
Fuck it, I predict Campbell pulls the upset here, by early-ish stoppage too. (6/1 ko / rds 1-6 14/1 / rd 1 125/1 / rd 2 90/1 rd 3 70/1)
Campbell has the length, speed, movement, jab and whipping left hand clump to give Linares something completely different to what he's been used to fighting in the last couple of years.
Linares (one of my fav fighters of the last 10 years) positives and weaknesses go without saying but he'll always be an off night away from defeat.
-
Re: Jorge Linares v Luke Campbell Sept. 23 HBO/Sky Sports
Campbell will enjoy a nice height advantage. Winner is mandated to face Mikey.

I hope you're right, but I can't help thinking this is just part of the build up to Linares fighting Mikey Garcia (which would also be a good scrap.)

Re: Jorge Linares v Luke Campbell Sept. 23 HBO/Sky Sports
I forgot about this fight with La Motta dying, Hughie v Parker, Andre Ward retiring and Rio Ferdinand taking up boxing.
-
Re: Jorge Linares v Luke Campbell Sept. 23 HBO/Sky Sports
If Campbell pulls this off, for me it will be up there with any away win you care to mention. I cant help feeling he's going to get battered. Whats Campbell like with the social media stuff? Linares has been all over the place posting vids looking a million dollars, but Campbell (maybe I'm not following the right people) appears to have been silent. I cant work out if that's a good thing or bad these days.
-
Re: Jorge Linares v Luke Campbell Sept. 23 HBO/Sky Sports
Linares, Parker and Ramirez will all win on points.
-
What channel is this on? (Can't find it to tape it, I'm out tomorrow)

It's in the title ;D HBO and it appears Sky also. Replays on Sunday morning HBO also.
Big disappointment with co main event being totally scrapped at last minute. #1 ranked..numero uno..140lb Antonio Orozco was set to face Roberto Ortiz but both came in overweight! FFS how and why does this happen so often now and how do you NOT know in Orozcos case that you are seven pounds over??? It's beyond unprofessional and a helluva way to blow prime network exposure.
the cynical fight fan in me says someone got another offer. Ok maybe he's just a fat slacker :p. Plenty of room for replay of Golovkin vs Canelo now is anyone wants to stomach that pill again. I finally get to see the fight.

Ortiz missed the weight too. Wasn't Orozco pulled from his fight with Fidel Maldonado last year as well due to dehydration? Pretty obvious he needs to move up.

It happens so often now because people realized how much of an advantage it is to become really good at cutting weight.
Years ago people trained to make weight. Nobody wants to make weight now. They want to be far bigger than the weight, cut weight, pile it all back on immediately.
Think of Brook/Spence and how often those two talked about how big they are. Because they are 175-180 between fights. They are 147 for 20 minutes 30 hours before they fight.

Re: Jorge Linares v Luke Campbell Sept. 23 HBO/Sky Sports
Is this on at 2am? I am not able to make another late weekend this week Batman.
-
Re: Jorge Linares v Luke Campbell Sept. 23 HBO/Sky Sports
Yeah it's another late one, I'll not be staying up for it either, it just doesn't warrant a late night.
Good fight and everything but I'll watch it in the morning
-
Re: Jorge Linares v Luke Campbell Sept. 23 HBO/Sky Sports

Guys learn to manipulate the loopholes and day prior weigh ins but it's on them if they pile on pre and post, just honor your end of the agreement or as Alpha said just simply move up. It shouldn't comes down to either a guy comes in gaunt and drained or they just ignore the contracts and basically damage professional rep etc. Also why we see so much division jumping to quick grab a trinket and then toss it on the scale when a defense comes around. Basically there is no repercussions to a guy blowing the weight and costing the network and event other than losing a payday. Surely has to make promoters or hbo weary of working with them in future and for a guy in Orozcos place, still largely unknown but right on the cusp of big opportunities it's a dumb move.

Re: Jorge Linares v Luke Campbell Sept. 23 HBO/Sky Sports
Nice ten count for La Motta.
-
Re: Jorge Linares v Luke Campbell Sept. 23 HBO/Sky Sports
Linares chin has the density of morning toast so can't rule anything out, this should be fun while it lasts. Campbell one big gangly kid.
-
Re: Jorge Linares v Luke Campbell Sept. 23 HBO/Sky Sports
Campbell range giving Linares problems, although he was having a look there

Nice left landed for Linares in the 2nd. Right floors Campbell.
