Jose Luis Castillo Statement
Tuesday, May 8 2007
Two time world champion Jose Luis Castillo of Mexico was very saddened today after learning that Diego Corrales had passed away in a motorcyle accident. "I was very surprised and upset when I heard about Chico. It really is tragic when something like this happens. My heart goes out to his family who I know he cared a lot about. I always liked Chico. We had what I would call as a friendly rivalry when we got into the ring. We had two amazing fights and our names will be linked forever. For me it was a privilege of knowing Chico and being part of such great fights."

Nice statement from El Temible.

I have to go thru my videos and get things organized.
I am not hating on Floyd no more.
He is one of the best this generation has to offer.
He proved it to this skeptic on May 5th.
But I had to come back and rattle the cages of his fan boys just for old time sakes.
In lieu of flowers, the Corrales family has requested that donations be made in Chico's memory to your favorite charity.Quote:

"I am devastated by this," said Clottey. "I am very sad and I want his family to know that I have love for them and I am here if they need me. Diego was a true warrior and this is a very sad day for me."
Joel Casamayor
Proclaimed today that he will dedicate his next fight to Corrales memory. “Boxing has lost a giant, and I’ve lost a rival and fierce competitor. My career will forever be linked to this man. I am deeply saddened to hear this tragic news. My heart felt sympathies go out to Corrales beautiful family… May “Chico” forever rest in peace.
Ricky Hatton
"It is absolutely tragic news. I had a lot of admiration for Diego Corrales and his mega-fight against Jose Luis Castillo deserves to be ranked among the finest of all time. I had often been linked with a fight against Corrales and it is a fight I would have loved. He was my kind of fighter, a fighter's fighter. He was very passionate about his sport and boxing is a lot worse off without him,"
Frank Warren
"This is a tragedy and my thoughts are with Diego's family and friends," said Warren.
"I remember when he came to Britain just after he had fought Castillo, and climbed into the ring before Ricky Hatton fought Kostya Tyszu in Manchester in June 2005.
"The reception he received from the crowd that night was amazing, and showed fight fans all over the world loved his bravery and his aggressive style of fighting.
"Outside the ropes he was a real charmer. Boxing has lost one of its stars."
Gary Shaw
"I am proud to have promoted one of the true warriors of the game.
"My heart goes out to his wife and kids. Boxing has lost one of the most exciting fighters in the ring."
"He fought recklessly and he lived recklessly. That was his style."
Bob Arum
Like everyone else in boxing, we are stunned and saddened at the tragic death of Diego Corrales. Years ago we helped launch Diego's boxing career and promoted many fights for him including his first championship bout. Diego was a class person who we were very fond of. Our deepest sympathies go out to his wife Michelle and the rest of his family.
May he rest in peace.

Thank you for all great fights you give to boxing fans, you will be missed my friend.
I still feel sick about this. Diego Corrales was a true warrior and a great talent. He epitomized the word heart, he never gave up, no matter how the odds were stacked against him. Diego, in victory or defeat, was always humble and never disrespected his opponents or fans by giving less than everything he had in any fight.
A fan favorite with the heart of a lion inside the ring, he seemed to be a genuine, good person out of the ring; he will be sadly missed.
R.I.P. Chico and much respect to your life and memory.
his legendary KO of castillio was on 5-7-05
his death was on 5-7-07 :(
