You are only kidding yourself here.
1) Yes Kessler has faced some top contenders and has two belts and is universally recognized as the #1 contender..... All in the same weak a$$ division.
2) Kessler
is the biggest test in his career, there is no doubt about that. He is young, has power, is undefeated and, unlike Lacy, is experienced and an established unified champion.
Rookiefan,I have to disagree with you here bro. Between them, they have all the titles and beaten most of the top opponents. You can't ask for much more than that man!
What exactly are you disagreen with me about?
I think some people are misunderstanding me.
I am not questioning that both Kessler and Calzaghe are great fighters.
I am not saying that Calzaghe has ducked anybody.
I am not implying that Calzaghe is not exciting or good for the sport.
I am questioning one thing and one thing only: quality of opposition.
The OP made a good point and out came bzknf (did I get that right?), wacko, miles, and all the rest to the rescue and talking like he had just insulted your mother(disclamer for the slow ones, that was a joke). Just the size of this thread is enough to indicate that there is some serious insecurity on how some people feel about Joe.
Nothing of what any of you have said has changed my mind
that Kessler, despite not having done anything of any remarcable importance or having established himself as an elite fighter, is in fact Calzaghe's greatest threat so far.
Open any top 10 list from any website/magazine and you'll see JC number 1,Kessler number 2. What more do you want? why don't you tell me who else should he fight? You questioned who JC fought, which is fair and well, but then you question Kessler? Combined they have all the titles, and have beaten the top contenders. Thats what I'm disagreeing about. All the titles, the top2 ,both undefeated, what is there to question(and you clearly questioned what Kess has done).
I have no insecurities about Joe,I'm not here to defend anyone,I just don't understand what your point is. Look at what I've just written, purely based on facts, how can you rebut that?
Gamo my man, take it easy. I know I quoted you but most of what I said was not really directed at you.
There is no question Mikkel Kessler and Joe Calzaghe are the top two in their division. I know that between the two of them, they have cleaned the SMWs out. But that does not change the fact that they are the product of possible one of the weakest divisions in boxing today.
They have a combined record of 81-0. Very impressive indeed, and it shows that they are both great champions. Lesser fighters would've stumbled in the way to greatness. But I am sure that had they been in most any other division, it would be very unlikely that both would be undefeated at this time.
With that said, this debate will become all but meaningless in a few weeks when both men will get their chance (THEIR FIRST CHANCE) at showing the world their greatness.
Of course, non of that will matter anyway cuz, asside from one or two contries in Europe, no one will remember this fight come November 10th ;D.....sorry I had to say that.....
LOL,have a CC for making me laugh and for seeing that this fight will involve greatness. ;)

Take that Calzaghe Fans!! >:mad...Seriously mate you are going to state tha longest reigning champion in all of boxing is all hype but back it up with nothing? except he has fought no one but Lacy???.....I am not a fan of Calzaghe but to just dismiss him like that with no merit makes you sound a bit foolish.....
With that being said....
If you repost this after the Kessler fight and change the title to "I knew Calzaghe was over rated" then you are on to something.......

Why, who has Kessler fought? ???
Better fighters than Calzaghe has fought lately.
Same old problem... only as good as your last fight. Calzaghe has a much better resume.

Fighting contenders off a reality show, he's never even fought for the WBC, IBF, WBA and why because he knows that soon as he does his bullshit record is over. (November 3rd)
He won the IBF title of LACY
As far as i know the IBF belongs to Berrio
Have you JUST started watching boxing? Trivia...what two belts is he looking to add to his collection in his next fight? Has he already won the IBF title? Did politics force him to give the belt up?
Politics?? He would rather fight the runner up of the conteder then to fight the reckognized IBF belt holder, Stieglitz
Stieglitz didn't hold the belt...Calzaghe gave it up and Stieglitz got sparked by Berrio.
Secondly...I bet he made more money fighting Manfredo than he would have fighting Stieglitz.
Calzaghe only gave up his IBF-belt because IBF will not permit him to defend his IBF-title against TWO MANDATORY IN TEN YEARS,only WBO will pemit him to do that
Re: Whats all the hype about calzaghe????
Are you telling me that all mandatories a worthy of the belts they 'deserve' to challenge for?
All bodies are guilty of forcing mandatories just so they can squeeze commissioning fees from fighters... and the IBF is far from the least guilty...
Re: Whats all the hype about calzaghe????
There are far too many quotes for me to dig out over this thread, but I'm getting more and more pissed off reading some of the stuff Magyor2007 is saying.
I for one have been critical of Calzaghe's choice of opponents and I feel it has taken it's time for him to face the class opposition. After Lacy should have been a real name, but instead he took on a game opponent. While it's taken his time, I give him his due for stepping up to the plate against the toughest opponent available. This is without doubt the biggest risk of his career.
However, while Magyor2007 could have disagreed and made a point about saying this, he's made a number of posts claiming that Calzaghe is a "chump" or a "bum". Anyone who says this clearly doesn't have a fucking clue what they're talking about and is pretty much doing it to piss people off. The fact that you argue with me but won't argue with a mod making the same fucking point pretty much shows how close to crossing the line you are.

I can only imagine how ignorant you think he is...or how he's already proven himself to know next to nothing about the Super Middleweight division...or even Calzaghe for that matter...or Kessler...so take my advice...don't get pissed off or make yourself look as ridiculous as he does by arguing with him.
He won't last long on this forum...not with an attitude like that or talking that much shit on a regular basis.
He can call Calzaghe a chump, a pussy, & a bum...but the fact remains...Joe Calzaghe is a world champion, makes more money in one night than this R-Tard will make in his entire life, & draws more of a crowd than this fool could if he had another arm growing outta his ass.
It's apparent that Joe's career hasn't suffered from this "boxing enthusiast's" opinion who seems to spend the bulk of his life fretting over Calzaghe's place in life & being a baseless boxing critic.
Talk about a chump.

Some of you keep disecting his post and talking about whether or not he held the IBF belt... yeah I'm looking at you bzkfn, or whether or not he is the longest reigning champion in history. But all that crap don't matter.
Yes he is a very skilled boxer but the fact is that this is in fact hist first real test. For a fighter to be over 35 and been a champion for 10 years to meet his first test now is just plain ridiculous. Yes higned sight is 20/20. That means it is better than foresight. That means before, we didn't know but now we know. Jeff Lacy is and was a bumb.
Yeah...Rookie Fan. Appropriate name.
You obviously are unfamiliar with the names that Calzaghe beat & who & what they were when Joe beat them.
Names like Viet, Mkrtchian, Jimenez, Sheika, Reid, or Eubanks were'nt walk overs & when Calzaghe dismantled them they were legit opposition. You can plow through any champion's record & pull out names of fighters that were meager opposition. Be that as it may Joe defended his title on his own turf like many other fighters do...the difference is that when someone is ragging on Joe that's one of the main arguements...but if they trying to defend other fighters...that's alright for them...but not Joe.
Joe has been tested many times over the last 10 years & to say Lacy was a bum just further proves that you either don't know what your'e talking about or your'e just trying to tear into Calzaghe.
Just because Joe blew through everyone he's faced doesn't make them bums.
You need to recognize that...the both of you.
Did you know Wacko that Jimenez went distance with Nigel Benn, Roberto Duran, Chris Eubank, and he even knocked down Roberto Duran plus Calzaghe was the first man to stop him ??
just looked at giminez record on boxrec in his last bout he won the paraguian cruiserweight title against an opponent who was 1-19-0 at the time of the fight and is currently won 1 (KO 1) + lost 21 (KO 18) and the oppent he scored his only win over had a 0-4-1 record at the time and is currently won 0 (KO 0) + lost 32 (KO 26) + drawn 1. im moving to paraguay. ill definately win a title in that country.
