Re: Paul Williams v. Sergio Martinez
i didn't think it was that great a fight either. agbeko-perez was better by a mile.
Re: Paul Williams v. Sergio Martinez
I thought that was a great fight......I had Martinez by a point.....But I cant argue with Paulie winning......
Gotta love both of those guys, just hard core fighters, there were a few low blows and heads coming together but neither one complained and none of it was on purpose....
Both of them are true warriors.....but you gotta wonder what that fight took outta both of them guys.....
Re: Paul Williams v. Sergio Martinez
BTW, did anyone else notice when Sergio literally knocked the snot out of Williams? I think it was the 7th or 8th round, they showed the replay of Sergio landing a big right hook and a huge booger came flying out of Paul's nose. Disgusting I know, but I had to chuckle at that.
Re: Paul Williams v. Sergio Martinez
Well two fights four guys giving it there all
Paul Williams, Chris Arreola, Brian Minto and Sergio Martinez all credit for making entertaining fights.

Agreed. At the end of the day, one thing for certain is that Martinez's stock definitely rose after his performance in this fight. No doubt about it. I had the fight very close. It was really about whether you are a fan of volume punching or cleaner punches. Martinez landed the more effective punches, but Williams threw more.
Does anyone think the fight would have been different at 154?

The difference is that these are two guys who are very, very talented. Paul is a top ten p4p fighter and Martinez should be somewhere on the list now too. I favor Martinez and Paul over Pavlik and Sturm at 160 and over Dzinzurik and Angulo at 154 meaning they are probably the two best in two weight classes.

ppl really think that highly of these guys  i would've picked a past-it Forrest to beat both of these guys.

On that note, wasn't it classy that Martinez wore the "Vernon Forrest" patch on his shorts?
It is pretty well-documented that Forrest dodged Martinez for a year before he passed away. And Paul Williams would have ran through Forrest at this stage of Forrest's career.
Re: Paul Williams v. Sergio Martinez
Did Arreola look to be suffering ill effects off Beating?Hope they replay Williams/Martinez,sounds like a thriller.Sort of suprised Martinez dropped Williams so hard..legit??

Actually he had MAJOR problems with his hands. They've been a problem since he fought Ike Quartey, hence his massive drop in activity since then. I think Martinez would've beaten him at that point in time, but Forrest wasn't dodging him.
But it was classy of Martinez to wear that. I can't believe Martirosyan thought he had a shot against him

Martinez not only dropped Paul.
He rocked 'em, bloodied and busted 'em up pretty well.
Much worse then CQ.

If Sergio Mora was able to beat Forrest I would be willing to put all that I own on the line that both Paul & Martinez would beat Forrest more convincingly.
People think highly of both of these guys because it's been obvious that fighters keep pulling out of fights on them. Last night they showed why no one wants to fight them.

Re: Paul Williams v. Sergio Martinez
I only just got the chance to watch it. I have to say it was a very good fight, probably my FOTY. I had Martinez ahead by a few points, but you could make an argument for Williams. Though, 119-110 is a disgrace. I wish the corruption, in the sport I love, would just simply end.
Re: Paul Williams v. Sergio Martinez
I dunno why but I started remembering what people said about Sergio Martinez.
That he was sorta like a poor man's Calzaghe. And in those first few rounds he looked it.
He went down early on a knockdown and then came back with his hands down and started dominating, i was seriously seeing flashes there. But he is his own unique fighter. It was a great GREAT fight. Thought It should have been a draw. Both fighters deserve to fight everyone who avoids them instead of each other. They fought evenly.
