On a side convo, I watch a load of classic movies, especially film noir, old English fims etc. we have a channel that shows all the old classics commercial free all the time. A few groups like the NAACP are encouraging them to stop playing the old classics portraying southern times in the days of slavery using stereotypes of the day depicting slaves and saying what is deemed as inappropriate words towards blacks. I find this disappointing, even gone with wind is under attack. I think it would be a shame to lose these films

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Yes it's funny to think how many movies, songs, ads etc would be classed inappropriate today.
Finally watched Solo. I enjoyed it. The missus stopped watching after less than half an hour.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
I finally saw The Happy Prince which is e only film I have been excited about. It was excellent and Everett plays Wilde so well. It is a very grim and dark film as you would expect from a man who lives in exile and has lost his literary mojo due to depression and addiction.
I also rewatched Lost in Translation which is probably in my top 10 favorite films. My wife thinks it is boring because nothing happens, but that's the point of the film. It looks great, sounds great, has Scarlett's bum to start the film and has Bill Murray. It's a film I relate to a lot. I think sometimes films get more meaningful the older you get.

Scarlett's bum? Not a body double? I think I need to watch it. :p

It's the first minute or so, just a close up of her from behind in some peach or pink (cannot remember) undies. Definitely check it out. She spends a fair bit of time in her underwear just staring out of hotel windows at the Tokyo city scape.

Yeh that sounds pretty short sided. Bigger issues to worry about than Hollywood depictions. Everything from Roots to films in the blaxploitation genre of the 70's would be swept under a rug. Ironically a chapter of the NAACP came up with the term :p but they came to be more beloved and empowering than most films depicting the U.S 'reg' Hollywood churned out.

That actually looks a bit of alright
.....although Stan Laurel should be played by a genderqueer latinx and Oliver Hardy should still be a body positive role model but he should be played by Tess Holiday as she rides Leslie Jones' shoulders because #DIVERSITY

Brilliant casting. The pathos of Laurel I always found moving.

Really is great casting which I think is phenomenal given how amazing Laurel & Hardy were as a comic duo. The makeup job on John C. Reilly alone is worthy of an Oscar, brilliant job.
I think it would be interesting (although there's no way in holy hell it ever gets made) that during this time in entertainment the whole #metoo movement, post Weinstein Hollywood, that Fatty Arbuckle's story is told. I've read about it and hell I don't know if he was guilty or innocent but I think that ambiguity would really make for an impactful film because regardless of guilt or innocence you end up with a dead girl and a guy who was NEVER allowed to forget what he had been accused of. But alas Hollywood isn't into making films which make people think these days.

damn didn’t hear of this one yet. Should be interesting. They did a great job with Chaplin with Robert Downey playing him. I like a good biopic.

You know Chaplin snaked JD Salinger's girl while JD was off in WW2? She was 19 as well and Chaplin was like 50 some. JD Salinger would have an interesting biopic.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Still on Shameless end of season 1. How old is the daughter gal supposed to be? At first it was oh she's quirky and nice looking. Now she's just nasty. The girl is like a turnstile who makes weird faces.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
The Ritual (2017) 7/10
Not bad. Best way to describe it is "Blair Witch Project" meets "The Wicker Man".
https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/...82,268_AL_.jpg
10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) 5/10
Nice actress, but otherwise the movie wasn't so good. Very predictable and not intelligently written.
https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/...82,268_AL_.jpg
The Lennon Report (2016) 7/10
Decent movie, a "must watch" for anyone who is a Lennon fan. They should have chosen a better actress to play Yoko Ono.

The Hunter's Prayer (2017) 7.5/10
A decent action movie. Quite entertaining from the beginning to the end.

Fiona? Like her early 20's I guess. She looks like the offspring of a stray chihuahua and Richard Simmons' unwashed Sweatin' To The Oldies shorts. She's got a resting bitch face that could crack a mirror. But that's her character....remember these folks aren't supposed to be likable.
The Ritual looks interesting I may give that a look see
Just finished GoT disc 4 of Season 4....
After that I've got 2015's Poltergeist (the original rocks, I don't expect this one to compete though the trailer looks scary enough). Then 1987's The Gate fuckin quality a young Stephen Dorff gets his start, then the classic Wait Until Dark which is more of a thriller, and then I've got some others Rear Window, The Fog, The Sentinel, Angel Heart, The Changeling, Dracula Untold.
I really would like to get either some more horror/comedies like Tucker & Dale vs Evil or Cabin In The Woods or The Babysitter OR some cheesy schlocky horror movies from any era Monster Squad, Teen Wolf, Halloween III Season of the Witch, Troll II, etc (all of those are excellent watches for the Halloween season)...I'd also be up for some diamonds in the rough like Sleepaway Camp which is a very solid flick...I'm up for suggestions.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Sicario 2 (Day of the Soldado) - I expected to hate this after loving the first film, but thankfully didn't, the two best characters from the first film take over. It looks terrific and sounds terrific although I was a bit disappointed with the franchise end (sort of).

You liked it? I’m hearing mixed reviews I might watch it this evening

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
House of Sand and Fog is one of my favorites of all time
-
Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
The Poltergeist remake wasn't horrible, I mean it wasn't the same as the original but it had some good moments.
Next up is The Gate which is a 1980's horror classic

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Watched Back door burglars1,2 and 3. Very good film

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Finally watched Deadpool II and it was pretty cool. Some of the banter was overdone and I couldn't buy the little chubby kid as would be baddy but the call back references with Marvel universe always work. And Juggernaut would not go out like that, but of course he'll be back.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Warsaw '44 (2014) 8/10
Good movie about the Warsaw Uprising in August-September 1944. The Bolsheviks told the Poles to rise up because they were about to take the city, but they lied, they didn't enter Warsaw until early in 1945.
https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/...82,268_AL_.jpg
The Witch (2015) 1/10
Sick horror movie, very bad and not at all entertaining. A witch kills a baby and covers herself in it's blood. The witch torments an isolated Christian family, killing off the children one by one. The two members of the Game of Thrones cast I liked the least (Kate Dickie and Ralph Ineson) play the parents.

Didn't think much of The Witch.
Finally watched Antman and Wasp. Was ok but needed more action scenes.
Deadpool 2, they dragged out that ending. Nowhere as good as the first.
Watched The Darkest Minds with my youngest, nothing special but worth a watch.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Anyone watched Joe Rogan's latest stand up special? It is really good, I watched Ricky Gervais' last one awhile back (Humanity) and that was awesome as well.
Watched "The spy who dumped me" with the missus the other night. Pretty random, not that good really. It's got Mila Kunis in it which is a bonus.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Didn’t watch those yet but I’m binging haunting at hill house and it is very well done. I think the editing is a little choppy but character development makes up for it. They with horror well into the story. I have to say Netflix has been knocking out the park lately

Might check that one out, was a little skeptical of TV horrors.
If you like stand up I would highly recommend both.
So much TV around at the moment, The man in the high tower's 2nd season started, Titans, Condor, The Sinner 2nd season, watching Maniac to see where it goes, plus some others I can't remember of the top of my head.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Taking a peek at Zabriski Point as it was brought up in the podcast I listened to about Charles Manson.
So far...not even 8 minutes in it's strangely similar to the tensions of today. A bunch of soyboys talking strategy with Black Panthers.....but there's the unbelievable part, those groups wouldn't be able to be in the same room today even though they're on the same side LMAO
-
Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Also the entire movie is free on YouTube so there's that too
-
Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
My God.....Antonioni shoots like a child! It's making me motion sick!
OK there's corporations! I GET IT! Holy shit everything is as shaky cam that's zooming in or moving side to side up and down all on advertising in corporations and names of buildings.
I can already tell I'm going to hate this lead actor he's a super righteous nihilistic hippie with a bad attitude
-
Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
You know the lead actor died being strangled by a 150 lb bench press bar what a pussy
-
Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
The music in this movie is done by Pink Floyd and The Grateful Dead this movie is so far up its own asshole music included. It's just pure masturbatory bullshit.
This is the cringiest thing I have seen this entire week and just yesterday I accidentally got a glimpse of Morning Joe.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Yyyyeah, well I ain't gonna lie to ya fellas.....that movie was a dumpster fire. Horrible

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
I finally got to see The Happy Prince and I loved it. It's obviously a very bleak portrait of Wilde's final years living as an exile in France, but I think it really captured that period very well. I have read a lot about Wilde, and I have my good and bad to say, and you sense that Everett is another that has done much the same in terms of trying to figure him out. Wilde was incredibly clever and brilliant, but like many a great man, had his tragedy. In that sense like many a great artist the life itself was as great as the art. I feel the same about Burroughs, Bowie and Orwell. You cannot help but be fascinated by not only the work but the complexities and contradictions of the person behind the mask.

Wilde's birthday is today. If ever there was a biopic of him Benedict Cumberbatch could play the lead.
