The Conjuring 2 (2016) 8.5/10
I said before that The Conjuring was the first horror movie I ever really liked. Well, I found The Conjuring 2 to be even better. Very well-made, with quality acting, screenwriting and direction.

Well the Star Wars franchise has had the life sucked out of it so bad that the Boba Fett movie has been cancelled....how the fuck could you fuck that shit up so bad?
I watched a documentary about bodybuilder Ronnie 'The King' Coleman called 'Ronnie Coleman: The King' it's streaming on Netflix. So Ronnie Coleman won 8 Mr. Olympia's and was just a massive dude and the documentary catches up with him now and it's kind of sad, he's 54 years old, he's had his hips replaced, he's fucked his back all up, he has numbness in his legs, he has to walk with crutches....he basically trained himself so hard he wore his body out. This dude did flies with 200 pound dumbbells :o he would squat 800 pounds :o he did over a TON on the leg press https://media.tenor.com/images/7c335...e80a/tenor.gif
Don't believe me? Check it out
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ue92z73K_TA
Only thing they didn't address in the documentary that I was kinda disappointed about was A#1 Steroids and #2 Human Growth Hormone....I'm not so naive as to believe that Ronnie was "all natural" but even so, to get THAT big, dear Jesus, it's incredible and it's hard work and dedication.
So you didn't like: The Shining, Jaws, The Exorcist, Night Of The Living Dead, Psycho, Halloween, Friday The 13th, My Bloody Valentine, Nightmare on Elm Street...you didn't enjoy any of those?
I mean I think it's a given for the acting to be poor in horror movies generally, but hey I enjoy shitty movies as much as good movies depending of course on what makes the movies shitty.
No, not really, but Psycho came closest.
The Shining 3/10 Didn't like it. Camera work was excellent, but seeing a father frighten and kill his children is not entertainment.
Jaws 1/10 One of the worst ever - hate propaganda against sharks.
The Exorcist 2/10 Hated it. Sickening scenes.
Night of the living Dead Never seen it.
Psycho 7/10 Thought it was nicely directed, and the ending was great dark comedy. But watching the murder of young women is depressing.
Halloween 6/10 I like the musical theme, and the opening scene at the mental hospital was okay, but otherwise not a good movie.
Friday the 13th 2/10 Hated it. I don't understand why any sane person would like it.
My Bloody Valentine Never seen it.
Nightmare on Elm Street 5/10
For a good movie about sharks, watch Sharkwater (2006) with Rob Stewart, a real-life hero.
Well to be fair 'Jaws' was loosely based on the multiple shark attacks along the Jersey shore in 1916. While I know it DID inspire a widespread fear of sharks among many and a culling of a lot of them for a short period, even 'Jaws' author Peter Benchley changed his tune on them. I (still fearful of sharks, same way I'm fearful of Grizzly bears) became more intrigued by them due to the movie and more respectful...I mean I don't want to swim with them or anything, I just think wow, what a magnificent animal, a real force to be reckoned with....although Orcas seem to have little trouble dealing with them...now THERE's a predator that you never think about, they're super smart and fucking tough but everyone seems to think they are the great big panda bears of the sea.
Those movies listed are "horror" they're an attempt to elicit a fear based response and make the viewers unnerved it's not like the folks watching are like "golly gee I really wish I could see some horrible shit happen to REAL people" it's just horrible shit has to happen in order for the plot to advance, but I guess you're just not into horror which is fine....I enjoy all sorts of movies, I get curious as to what other folks enjoy and why is all.
Made the mistake of sitting through a marathon of 'Friends' with my sister. First time seeing it and honestly one of the dumbest shows ;D. Save for Jennifer Aniston, then and now. Mm mmm.
@walrus if you get a chance to watch this then do it. Soldiers in training are heros too.
Watched Hunter Killer last night. Aside from a few hard to believe scenes, I enjoyed it. My fav sub movie of all time still remains Crimson Tide, though.
The Wizard of Lies (2017) 7.2/10
Informative movie with some very good acting, especially by Michelle Pfeiffer. The actor they chose to play Madoff's son Mark, Alessandro Nivola, looks almost exactly like him. However, the movie has none of Madoff's relatives knowing what he was doing, which is impossible. Interestingly, Diana Henriques, the author of the book the movie is based on, plays herself in this movie.

Isolation (2005) 5.8/10
Really frightening, but rather sickeningly gruesome. Some scenes in this one are similar to those in other movies such as Alien and Threads. Cast includes some talented people in early roles, namely Essie Davis and Sean Harris.

Amy of you yanks gunna watch death house, it's been released in the US today.
I know it's gunna be fucking terrible but written by Gunner Hansen (leatherface) starring Kane Hodder (Jason Vorhees) Sid Hague (house of 1000 corpses) Michael Berryman (hills have eyes) Tony Todd (candyman) barbara crampton (re-animator) Adrianne Barbeau (the fog) and a fuck load of other people.
I've tried everything to get it off the US version of Amazon and ITunes but I've not had any joy and it's not on showbox or anything yet.
Barbra Crampton used to look a bit of alright (got naked in a few movies as well)...I guess she's aged ok, I haven't seen her in a while.
I think every so often an 'Expendables' take on a different genre is needed. Karloff and Lugosi were in many movies together. The movies won't be GREAT as there's no way to get the most out of everyone (oft-times).
You Were Never Really Here (2017) 4/10
Good storyline, but bad direction ruined it. Lynne Ramsay is one of those pretentious directors like Justin Kurzel who tries too hard to be clever and to please the critics, but her movies like this one do poorly at the box office.

Dark Passage (1947)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0039302/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Starring: Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall
Plot: An inmate at San Quinton framed for a murder he didn't commit escapes and tries to piece together who set him up.
This Gun For Hire (1942)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0035432/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Starring: Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake
Plot: A hitman is paid off in phony bills by his employer who is selling government secrets to the Japanese.
Both of these noir flicks were quality. They were shot well, some directors were impressive in their use of light and shadow as opposed to just filling the screen with too much the eye can't process it all. Very entertaining movies, I really do enjoy a quality noir flick.
Next up I've got more Game of Thrones which I'm in season 5 and I'm already quite bored with it but the wife likes it so I'm held hostage by her decision to have those in my queue :-\ .....other than that I've got Deadpool 2 and then Season 6 of GoT and then Christmas movies which so far include Mixed Nuts, SNL Christmas, A Merry Friggin Christmas, A Bing Crosby Christmas, and The Best of Andy Williams Christmas Shows.
Hard to believe it's already so close to that time of the year
My movies are starting t pile up, Red dead is eating into their time.
Watched the new Predator. It was entertaining, but has nothing on the original.
Read there is a Train to Busan sequel coming! I'm in. Watched 'Midway' with Pop and somehow all three Beverly Hills cop movies :-X. The first is always a great one, Eddie Murphy riffing at best.
The Terror (Season One 2018 ) 8/10
This is better than most of what we see on TV, with a very good cast and cinematography. It's a unique series about the Franklin Expedition of 1845-48, combining history with sci-fi horror. One of the two ships was named The Terror. A creature from Inuit mythology known as a Tuunbaq stalks the explorers.

The Last Jedi.....GARBAGE
I'd like to explain why "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is garbage so I'm just going to list a few things.
The bullcrap that happens in Last Jedi
How do you right the Star Wars ship? Well that's a toughy especially in how movies are made these days. It used to be that only cineophilic lesbians would care deeply about things like the Bechdel test https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bechdel_test or "inclusivity" or any of that bullshit and so directors could just focus on character depth, plot, etc instead of "We need more disabled trans midgets to round out the cast" :shakehead: .....now hey I'm not against mixing up the cast a bit, I'm just more of the idea that their character (and perhaps this is difficult for white directors or writers, I know it's difficult for guys like Spike Lee to write for white guys :-\ ) is more than their race or sexual persuasion or gender identity....although the SJW/NPC crowd is rather flat when it comes to character depth.
So Star Wars the original trilogy saw the Rebellion on the ropes and then they deliver a massive defeat to the Empire. Well that either cripples the Empire, OR the Empire gets nasty in their quest to defeat the Rebels. Think what would happen in a real war, there's plenty of things to choose from. And this is why the prequels suck, the Empire is never EVER as big and bad and destructive as it should have been. George Lucas compared them to Nazis....so I'm looking for the efficient heartless killing machines that are supposed to be the baddies, there's 0 heat for the Empire or First Order.
These movies SHOULD be very easy to write these days too, the dark side of the force...you know allowing your emotions to run your fucking life, ringing any bells here? It should be sending a message that being an emotional mess is no way to restore things, it's no way to make the Galaxy Great Again. But I guess nobody wants to hear or see that.
I would have just gone on a storyline which was totally away from Luke-Han-Leia....focus on the bounty hunters, people love Boba Fett, you could basically recreate The Good The Bad and The Ugly with Star Wars Bounty Hunters and it would be epic. Any Kurosawa films would have been very solid foundations for this kind of thing...or hell watch some old serials, that's what these are based off of originally.
Supposedly the Game of Thrones writers are going to tackle this but I just don't think it's going to be any good ever again.
I've been watching Ken Burns' Vietnam documentary....
The French....Jesus Christ...could they do ANYTHING right? Treat the Vietnamese like shit, get runover by the Nazis. Get France back (thanks to the help of the US and UK) and then go right back to being assholes in Vietnam (and elsewhere I suppose). I guess now with the whole migrant invasion they're having they are just feeling so fucking terrible for what has happened in decades and centuries past that they've just given up on even France being France. They've been beaten into submission. They should feel bad about what they've done in the past, but shit you can't live with that and keep trying to make amends now because you'll be taken advantage of.
This was the start of the United States the road to hell is paved with good intentions foreign policy. We should have let the Vietnamese decide what they wanted to do with their own fucking country rather than waste lives fighting those folks. Also by getting stuck in Vietnam the Commies infiltrated our universities and peace movements and civil rights groups....had we NOT gotten stuck in, maybe the Commies stay the fuck out of our shit, but I doubt it. I'd still be all for ousting Commies from anywhere and everywhere in the United States as their beliefs are contrary to how this nation was founded.
White Tiger (2012) 8/10
This is a strange and unique anti-war movie with an element of horror. There is excellent cinematography, acting and direction. It reminds me of Tarkovsky's Ivan's Childhood which was re-made as Come and See. The story isn't for everyone - it's not an action film. Although some scenes are frightening, it's primary intention is to make the viewer think. If you liked Tarkovsky's movies, you'll like this one.

I watched the latest Mission Impossible, I was entertained, but it was a bit long, and one of those movies where things kept happening to drag out the ending. But overall not a bad effort for this type of movie. A lot of the production looked kind of cheap tho, some pretty good chases.
The new Predator movie - my god I hated it. The end.
The simple beauty of the original Predator was it was actually scary (for a young teenager) watching a bunch of elite killing machine soldiers picked off one-by-one and reduced to terrified mental wrecks by an unseen force.
That's the problem with Hollywood these days. Everything is jam packed with nonsense! Directors who are good get the most out of a little. And again, the more the monster is seen the less afraid of it the audience becomes.
Less is more. Build your characters. Don't show the monster too much. Know how the monster can build heat (get the audience to hate it). And for the love of God, just because you CAN cgi something it doesn't mean you SHOULD.
Loved that Arnie rotated some of those guys into his other movies. Billy had an all time classic scene and it was him getting easily wasted!
Of all things ended up watching 'Papillion' and 'Dudes' ;D with the ol man.
Blade Runner 2049 (2017) 8.2/10
It was better than I expected. I found the first one to be mediocre, but this sequel had a much more interesting and complex story. The Oscar it won for Best Achievement in Visual Effects was well deserved.

Where the Truth Lies (2005) 5.3/10
Several pretty women and a very good actor in Colin Firth made it watchable, but the story was predictable and annoyingly tedious by times.

Predator (1987) 8.3/10
Last night I re-watched one of my old favorite movies Predator. It's very entertaining, as it builds up to a great climax in the last 15 minutes.
