Valley Uprising - Documentary covering the early big wall climbers of Yosemite. A different kind of climbing to what you'd expect from watching Dawn Wall, but bearing in mind they were often pissed the whole time impressive stuff. A running battle between two climbers and their mobs, who could climb what and who could climb it first, and climb it the right way.
Free Solo - Alex Honnold, free solo climber (no ropes) climbs El Capitan. Totally bonkers, totally wired differently to the rest of us. It's a documentary and it's the job of the film makers to sell it and make it as suspenseful as possible, but I think there was a genuine sense of everyone but him shitting their pants. No one really wanted him to do it.
Dude those climbing docs are amazing. I see that valley uprising is on Netflix now I’ll prob watch it today

I might try that Black Summer
Watched Free Solo last week - yes I got same impression that he was the only one not worried by it all ! I found the actual climb when he did it lacking in suspense after the build up !
This weekend I finally got round to watching Apocalypto - visually stunning, suspenseful and shocking. Highly recommended for those that haven't seen.
Thing it might have been a flop at the time because Mel Gibson was going through his crazy period ?

Terrible film, panders to the modern day PC crowd, shoehorns in loads of nonsense and disregards the world and characters that they have spent the last 10 years building, infinity war was brilliant, this was awful.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
OK then here are my problems with End Game
Fat Thor, out of all of the Avengers Thor was easily the most powerful, this film undoes all the hard work that they put into the character and getting him just right, I mean he wears a fat suit throughout and has been reduced to little more than a joke.
Too much emphasis was put on Hawkeye and not enough on Iron Mans dilemma, I mean following the snap Iron man now has a nice little log cabin and he's settled down with Pepper and has even got a daughter, The Avengers rock up and tell him that he has a duty to save everyone that was killed in the first film, no real mention for how perilous this will all be for his own family, yeah at the end Hawkeye gets his family back but Starks kid is now fatherless
The world seemed to be getting on just fine after the snap, they still had wifi and broadband, they had nice restaurants where teenagers run around asking The Hulk for photographs, Captain America comments on how he has seen whales in the ocean for first time in years, the air and water are a helluva lot cleaner than before and they all seem to have been able to retire their superhero status and are concentrating solely on trying to track down Thanos and the stones, fuck me Thanos seems to have had a point
Captain America wielding Thors hammer, yeah we all knew this was going to happen but wait a minute...whats this, ol Cap is now apparently the god of thunder as well, he's shooting lightning out of every orifice at will, it wasn't ever the hammer that provided the thunder, it was the fact that...you know, Thor is the god of thunder
Professor Hulk was a massive let down, after being notable for his absence in Infinity War I was expecting him to come out and kick some serious ass here, instead he has learned to use the best of both of Hulk and Banner and he spends the film wearing cardigans and looking rather bored, nothing else, in fact other than him wielding the infinity gauntlet he may as well have not been in the film at all
They spent 10 years developing the characters all building up to this final event only to have Captain Marvel rock up at the last minute and save the day, no one is invested in her character, she is just overpowered and there is no real connection or explanation as to why she is needed (other than to satisfy the SJW's) oh look the mighty Thor is now a mentally weak, fat, shambling alcoholic, that doesn't matter though because...WOMAN IS STRONG, SHE SAVE THE DAY
Now on the last point I don't mind the whole feminist bollocks, I have been calling for a Black Widow solo film for years (its came 5 years too late in my opinion) and in my opinion Scarlett Witch has the best scene in the film (and I think that she has been massively underused throughout the franchise) but it is clear that they rushed Captain Marvel into the story just to appear as being 'progressive' there is a scene where there are about 20 female super hero's all fighting the bad guys together, not a male in sight, again this is fine but don't make it so fucking obvious that you are beating me round the head with it, it takes me out of the film
along with the feminist bollocks you have the general PC bollocks, so by the end of the film, the most powerful hero in the world...or universe or whatever is now a woman (step aside Thor) the ruler of Asgard is now a black woman, the new Captain America is a black man, again I want to stress I don't have any problems with any of this but it is so fucking blatantly obvious what the agenda was that they may as well have just flashed 'WE ARE BEING PROGRESSIVE' on the screen before not so subtly hammering this into us
for me there was so so so many things wrong with the film that the positives just seem insignificant and don't come close to rescuing the film
oh and finally, now that 50% of the population have been bought back after 5 years how the hell does Spiderman just rock up at school afterwards, surely 50% of his old classmates would be 5 years older, I'm pretty sure that would cause a few issues but apparently not, I know that is only a minor thing and you will always get it when you use the time travel aspect of things but its another gripe that I had
that may be a garbled mess and not the most coherent of posts but that is in keeping with the film in my opinion

Speaking of a film that loosely has to do with a superhero though, I watched and highly recommend Birdman, thought it was incredible. Its not for everyone, probably not for anyone who thinks anything like the Avengers is anything but dogshit;D If you read a little bit about the premise and think youd like it, you probably will love it though.

I agree with all that.
The part where they all started coming back was brilliant, loved it. Captain America getting up for the last time knowing that the game is up, just brilliant. But where the fuck was Captain Marvel? Off fighting some other battle that's totally insignificant, just like Thor was at the end of Infinity War. It was the equivalent of a few mates out in town getting a kicking from a giant bastard, they're doing their best but on the wrong end of things. All the while the hardest bastard of the group wanders off to give someone a bollocking for dropping their kebab.
Rendering Thor basically impotent was criminal. I like funny Thor but fuck off.

I've been partaking in a miniseries on Leon Trotsky. Commies sure do love themselves some tedious bullshit. They like setting schedules, printing and handing out leaflets, giving speeches, anything to do that is like play acting what real life actually is. Thank God Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses or Scientologists with OCD aren't Commies or we'd be fucked.
The American Revolution is so easy to understand and so easy to learn about....other revolutions are so fucking convoluted: France, Mexico, Russia....America had the common decency to win the war and then go about the business of setting up a permanent government fairly quickly even taking their time to work through the Articles of Confederation rough draft start to the nation until we got most worthy documents in the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Mexico kept fighting and shuffling leaders, France did a complete 180 then kept fighting, and Russia wanted the entire world to join them in their communist bullshit.
It's an intriguing series and well acted even if there are parts which are fabricated. I don't like Trotsky in the series, you're not supposed to, and it works well due to that. 'Downfall' with Bruno Ganz was excellent as well, 'Last King of Scotland' was so-so I don't get their politics or history either. I've yet to see anything on Mao or Stalin or Lenin or Franco or Mussolini or Pinochet or anyone else but always welcome watching something that gives me something to research a bit. I haven't seen anything on Napoleon either.....sad thing is Stanley Kubrick was going to make a movie on him with Jack Nicholson starring as Napoleon. It was going to be epic and after watching Barry Lyndon I think it would have been an amazing movie. I like trying to understand dictators and other world leaders. I want to know how they know they'll lead a nation, I want to know what makes them think they can control the thinking masses.
Anywho watch it it's alright.

What a hunk of shit that movie is. It's well acted but of course it would have to be with Hoffman and Streep, but the story is so weak. A priest who also works with the Catholic school MAY be having an illicit affair with the school's first black student. That priest could also just as well have been helping that child adjust to being at a new school full of white kids. That priest could also be gay, know the child is gay (which is indeed the case) and just be mentoring him not molesting him. We never fully know what happened or what happens. All we get is the hints.
I get that the focus of the movie is just that, but I believe it was shoddily written and poorly put together. It could have been so much more than it was.

Let's Do it Again. an old flick with Sydney Poiter & Bill Cosby pre-spanish fly...I hope!
Cosby, one of the few who didn't need profanity to be funny. And Jimmy Walker (from Good Times) played a sorry skinny sap of a boxer named Bootney Farnsworth who got hypnotized into thinking he was the greatest MW boxer.
Spoiler- the final scene; watching a bunch of black gangsters running in 3 piece suits and big brim hats, chasing down Bill & Sydney was priceless. Although it was done during the black-Xsploitation era, this was just a good comedy.
James Evans the father from the sitcom Good Times &(father in Coming to America) was also in this movie, he was one of the gangsters who took bets on fights & figured out that he got shafted. aka Kansas City Mack!
if you want to remember Bill Cosby of old, this is the movie!!!

Err.. @Lyle, you wanted a film called Doubt, which was all about "doubt," to give you definitive answers? I saw it years ago, however, I remember thinking it was pretty clear the whole idea is WE choose what to believe depending on our own prejudice/feelings/personality.
Was he really innocent? Does it matter? (That sounds weirdo considering the subject, but makes sense if you've seen the film). I remember the Streep Nun clearly didn't like the men/priests and especially hated the "young" modern Hoffman character. She had zero evidence yet was convinced she was right (like belief in supernatural beings - god).
Why did you assume he was gay (I can't remember that being implied? I remember something about him being odd compared to other men because his hands were always spotless?

Craziest film of the year!!
After settling in and enjoying food, drink, and hallucinogenic drugs, Pelle takes the group to witness a ceremony whereby two commune elders leap from a clifftop.
The woman who jumps is killed instantly, but the man does not and is finished off by multiple commune members with a large mallet to the skull.
Christian, meanwhile, has been marked as a potential mate for red-haired cult member Maja, having been gifted a pie containing one of her pubic hairs, an orange drink, and her placing a small totem for a love spell beneath his bed.
After being drugged, Christian is taken to a ceremony to mate with Maja, surrounded by the naked cult elders. He is continually encouraged by them - even physically - to have sex with her and impregnate her.
After the ceremony, Christian flees Maja and the Elders and runs naked from the building and comes across Josh's severed foot sticking out from the ground.
Disoriented, Christian comes across British tourist Simon - ritually dismembered to resemble an eagle.
Christian is then beaten and drugged into paralysis by the cult members.

2013's 'The Wolverine' ...... it was a so-so movie. Good action, very comicbook like in plot which is nice of course sometimes they'll hollywood up a comic story and it fucks everything up. That being said Hugh Jackman really shouldn't have been Wolverine as IMO he doesn't fit the role...he's hirsute enough but not short enough, the Wolverine is supposed to be almost midgetlike in appearance. hugh Jackman is 6'2 which in actor height is like 7'0.
If I had to pick any actor all time for the role of Wolverine I'd either go with James Cagney or William Forsythe or Charles Dierkop...but all in all good movie, good action, good settings and interesting story.
Next up I'll finally have the remake of 'IT' which should be fun.
