It (2017).... Decent movie, not scary, decent though

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Spiderman 2, Far From Home was a good movie with some nice twists, exciting action and decent storyline.
Life of Brian is a very funny movie which I had forgotten how good it was.
Bucket List starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman was a moving film.
Do Over With which starred Adam Sandler and I thought was family friendly but was very rude and awkward with the kids also watching. The plot is simple but ends up complicated when Sandler and his mate fake their own deaths and start a new life but end up in an even worse place.
Night School was enjoyable although not a Kevin Hart fan.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Network (1976) starring: William Holden, Faye Dunaway, and Peter Finch....a truly great and prescient movie. Really explains a lot about the 24/7 newscycle.
Saw 'It' good movie, fun, not scary though
Dracula Untold is next

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Network was awesome! My attention span has been shat lately. Went to storage in hopes of salvaging some of Pops collection. Vhs, dvd really don't care but looks like most are ruined over last 6 months. Have one small box but have to go through them. I realize now where I got my ocd from when it came to collecting fight tapes ;D but he was always far more organized than I. Have yet to see the final Marvel and look forward to it. Started Stranger Things season 3 but feels like the schtick has worn off. I heard the new Godzilla was solid.

Spiderman- Far from home.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
John Wick II - I didn't really like the first one - must've been expecting a Bourne, Taken or Equalizer - but enjoyed this for a 2-hour fantasy escape. Reminded me of a Hong Kong/Chinese actioner from back in the day.

Interesting concept for a movie I reckon...would make a good videogame.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Spiderman Far from home wasn't all of that for a Super hero movie, Mysterio was a boring villain.

Wild - Reece Witherspoon plays an ex druggy slag who walks the pacific crest trail. Going to find herself or summat. It was alright. No idea if she finished it or not but she does get um out a fair bit. Even as a proper skank you still would.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
The VVitch (2015) - interesting...not scary, more of an allegory than a horror story. Not the greatest movie, but interesting. I think the director had a good thing going it was well shot and very of a period. I think he'd be a great director if Nathaniel Hawthorne's 'Young Goodman Brown' is ever made into a film he'd be perfect to direct it, not that he's some Johnny 1 note who can ONLY do 1 thing, that thing being period pieces in 17th century New England...I just think what he accomplished with The VVitch was impressive visually and in capturing and immersing the viewer in that era.
Robert Eggers is the director and his next film is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Li...se_(2019_film)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yec0jwBO66U
Story in that one seems a bit odd...interesting but odd. I think that his cinematography is intriguing though and to shoot THAT in black in white is a bold choice, but it helps set a mood already.
Eggers has a good future ahead of himself I'd say.
Started season 2 of Mindhunter, that is brilliant still, so no one season wonder there (at least so far) only seen 2 episodes.

You guys have Netflix? I noticed they have network. I started watching it but dozed off, no reflection on the movie it is great. One issue I have with Netflix is they don’t have a lot of the old classics from the 40’s to 70’s. They did have rosemarys baby which is phenomenal. Great atmosphere and overall creepy.

Yeah I've got Netflix even with all the people associated with them now :-X
I watched the first episode of 'The Family' which is about a group of Christians/Evangelicals/Jesus followers who throw their weight behind certain politicians. It's odd how the group 'The Family' is so vaguely defined...they pray to God and Christ, but they are apparently focused solely (and soully I guess) on the Gospels and nothing else. There were lots of young men living sort of a 1950's 'Leave It To Beaver' style of life in a giant house and they run the National Prayer Breakfast and I guess the devious parts are coming in later episodes? :dontknow: but right now it seems rather innocuous.
I watched 'Dracula Untold' which was the origin story for Dracula in Universal's attempt to revive the original monsters. A plan that ultimately failed, but I think the thing now is serials/series like Netflix so if the big movie studios get in on that then serials for such characters (as with superheroes) would probably go off gangbusters. Decent movie, kinda slow, I'm trying 'The Mummy' next with Tom Cruise...the originals of these were so much better.
Can't recommend Mindhunter enough, great series that!

It definitely doesn't feel like what it was a few years ago in terms of overall variety. Navigating titles and genres is all cockeyed and arranged as if TV shows started in the 90's. Shit they don't even have a 'Western' category anymore. Found that searching specific actors brings up like movies and shows but you have to peel back the onion and scroll. They got fans cemented with Punisher and Daredevil and then just..poof, canceled and gone for little other reason than they could.

I do find it difficult to find things on Netflix. They also do a poor job stocking classic movies. Let’s see how things shake out when Disney releases the streaming service. There is always talk about Apple buying Netflix.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
John Wick 3 - they rip off loads of classic favourites - spaghetti westerns, Hong Kong/Bruce Lee, Mad Max, Luc Besson - but make it cool instead of annoying. The story is irrelevant but characters like Morpheus, Lovejoy and the baldy concierge are terrific.
-
Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Finished up 'Mindhunter' season 2.... good stuff, really well done. The greatest horror movies leave the monster to be something of your own imagination and in this series the gore, the violence, the horror is left up to your imagination. That makes it easier to watch, but also the killers have this beneath the surface unease to them even the guys who are typically very friendly with the feds like Ed Kemper.
I would imagine that the next season will probably deal with Dahmer.
Up next 'The Mummy' starring Tom Cruise....we'll see just how horrible this horror movie is.
-
Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Saw "Angel Has Fallen". Good action, but some predictable gaffes and inexplicable sequences.
-
Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
'The Mummy' was actually kind of good, I was expecting a shitshow but it was good. Wasn't scary per say but it had good action and suspense. Tom Cruise played kind of an atypical character as well. Cameo from Russel Crowe as Jekyll/Hyde was nice as well.
Universal DID fuck up the 'Dark Universe' a few ways though...They are supposed to be HORROR movies, yes with action, but heavy on the horror! The monsters aren't supposed to be the heroes, they're pure evil and needed to be pure evil. They were going to do a shared universe much like the DC/Marvel Universes and that would have been nice but for the time periods between what all happens Dracula was set in the 15th Century, The Mummy was set in 2017, Frankenstein is originally set in the 19th Century, The Creature from the Black Lagoon occurs in the 1950's...I mean they are all supernatural but still to merge all of those without a DeLorean is nuts.
Up next is 'Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter/Under The Hood'
and then it's: Hammer Horror:, The Curse of Frankenstein, Rasputin The Mad Monk, Dracula, Dracula 1972 A.D. Universal-Paramount The Creature From The Black Lagoon
I've not done Hammer films so much, but I'm excited about it Christopher Lee always awesome.
-
Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
I was brought up on Hammer House of Horror and Christopher Lee is the Dracula for me. Peter Cushing was good too.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Finally got around to watching Marvel: End Game. It felt about an hour to long and somehow had avoided spoilers and who was lost at the end. Really didn't care for the rewriting of the lesser, brighter calmer Hulk and what they were going for. Thor also. They tried to play to much to fans with making him a fat beer swilling couch potato playing Fortnite. Hawkeye back was good to see but for some reason it felt they were steering to much for future franchises, but hey Disney :p. First time seeing Captain Marvel and know there is tons of political blah about the actress etc but that was a solid debut scene. Awesome final battle scene and Caps story.

I would like to see a film of Hawkeye/Ronin during those years he lost his family. He would be one mean vigilante in the mould of the Punisher. Also love to see the film being made about Captain America’s story of his years with Peggy Carter.
Agreed Nerd Hulk was not great but certainly funny.

Watched the old classic double indemnity last night. It checks all the boxes on film noir. I’ll take an old classic over new movies any day.

Absolutely. There's a story there not just flashy special effects and gore

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Anyone see Spy on Netflix. It’s about the Israelites best spy getting into Syria at a time Israel had no intelligence in the country. Sasha Boron or whatever his name is who played Ali G is the star and he did an excellent job. It’s based on a true story. Really well done. It’s a series not a movie but I watched it in prob two and a half days. El kabonger is right, that mindhunter is another very well done series.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
'Tales from the Black Freighter' - the comic within a comic from 'Watchmen' was made into a little movie and to be honest I think it was a great storyline and the art was fantastic, kind of reminded me of 'Heavy Metal' and 'The Hobbit'. Gerrard Butler did the narration and he did a brilliant job as well. I think it was really spot on.
'Under the Hood' - kind of an expose look in the 'Watchmen' universe as to how masked crime fighting began. Again great concept and execution, washed the color out looked like real film too very well shot.

Finally got around to catching The Book of Eli. Tend to find Denzel either absolutely great, or eh but thought that one was awesome. I don't get into religious overtones to much but recall some back and forth when that came out. I'm just a sucker for anything apocalyptic.

Great movie spics. Yes it has a biblical part to the plot but i never thought it created any controversy as it’s approached very calmly and no preaching or pushing the subject. Is it on Netflix by any chance I’d really like to see it again. Like you I’ll watch any apocalyptic movie as long as it’s rated 4.9 or above on imbd. I also can’t get enough of good zombie flix

Loved The Book of Eli, and it helped to have Denzel and my favorite bad guy, Gary Oldman. Don't get much into zombie movies, though. I find them to be basically lifeless.

Oldman is great. That Churchill movie he did, though rather a crappy movie, showed his range and he did a great Churchill. And interesting tits, I didn’t know anyone didn’t like zombie movies. Did you see world war Z

My favorite Oldman movie of all time still remains The Professional.

I am legend was phenomenal. The zombies also were getting intelligent. There are a lot of crappy zombie movies made but when you catch a good one it’s the shit. 28 days was a good one as well. The follow up was not as good but not horrible.

Dave Chappell's Sticks & Stones, I thought the hype was going to be too much, but it was a really good set. There are people saying it's "transphobic" but I didn't find it to be insulting to that group any more than any other groups he hit.

That was one I really wanted to like but the thought of fluid like hoards ruined it. Basically in zombie flicks you're either a fan of the ninja runners or the shufflers. I dig shufflers. If runners like 28 Days or WW Z come, we're fooked ;D. I thought Train To Busan was superb. Felt like it was what World War Z was supposed to be. TWD is still the staple but nearly lost me in Season 7.
