Great performance by Pascal.
Too bad about the cut tho.
Actually I thought Pascal would win today as well although I didn't post anything. I've recently been thinking that Floyd Mayweather is the only truly great athlete in any combat sport and we've seen in boxing and MMA in recent weeks the great Fedor, Anderson Silva, Devon Alexander and now Chad Dawson exposed to a degree. Every time a supposed p4p top fighter loses my admiration for pretty boy Floyd grows, hereally is the best p4p fighter in any sport today, by a mile imo.
Re: Who is going to be on for Pascal/Dawson?
Ok, I am just back from the fight:
I've been superbly lucky because the Bell Center wasn't full capacity, they did exchange my tickets against 2 in the best section:cool: So all in all, the crowd went quite mad and I am certain Jean Pascal did get some new fans in there. From what I'Ve seen from a close distance, Jean Pascal really did more aggression and Dawson did look quite hurt a couple of time where Pascal looked quite ok, even in the 11th when he got battered in the first minute he wasn't too shaken, at least, it didn't look bad enough to fear a "final" knock out. Big win for Pascal, I know that there is a rematch clause in the contract but I wonder if Shaw will claim it right away for Chad's next bout or if he'll try to throw it in the cooker to rebuild Chad's confidence with a tune-up fight in the meantime.
Quite a good moment to be back in Montreal and though i am not a huge Pascal fan, I was quite happy with the end result. Chad's the only one to blame, he did look timid all fight long and did let Pascal build himself a huge advance on the card, his post-fight whining was utterly pathetic and I wouldn't be surprise if he would require a fair period of time to recover mentally from the lost.
Re: Who is going to be on for Pascal/Dawson?
congrats to jean pascal. only the second time i see him fight and i'm very impressed with his speed, power and overall ability. he really wanted it more tonight and took the fight to the talented dawson. i'd love to see him in there with lucian bute and would give him a good chance on beating him. a jean pascal/tavoris cloud fight would be a "sicko" fans dream fight. i mean it would be absolutely brutal with i believe pascal winning by KO.
Re: Who is going to be on for Pascal/Dawson?
i think Dawson KO's Pascal in a rematch

could be but yesterday, he never got him on the brink of K.O, even when Chad had his best moments in the 11th the k.o wasn't in sight. One thing for sure, that could dress the table for a Bute-Pascal and that, in Montreal, would be extremely huge and I am certain that this fight would interest HBO now.

it did look like Pascal was about to go down a couple of times in the 11th, Pascal was hurt the worse of the two, but for whatever reason Dawson just backed off, i don't know if it was a case of Dawson underestimating Pascal and then not doing enough to get the decision, i'm not taking anything away from Pascal, he won the fight fair and square, but IMO Dawson is still the best fighter in the division and would KO Pascal in a rematch

To be honest, I was sure Dawson would pull a wide UD but he was just not active enough. I'Ve seen the fight from very close and though Pascal was not at his best and was ringed in the 11th, he was far from the KO, I was close enough to see his face and he didn't look faded or nothing and it is perhaps the only serious moment where Chad had him in danger where Pascal solidly buckled Dawson's knees 2-3 times in the fight. I wonder if it's just that Dawson took him lightly or simply had a bad day at the office but he was quite outmatched in this one. The revenge will be quite interesting and I wouldn't be surprised neither if Dawson would pull off that one but first, let's see how affected he is mentally.

Chad Dawson didn't get exposed at all, alot of people thought it would be a close fight. Because Jean Pascal has improved as a fighter, and Jean Pascal's awkward style and speed will always be a problem.
Chad Dawson just didn't let his hands go enough, and he was outhustled. But technically he looked the better fighter, and he landed more punches and he had Jean Pascal hurt quite badly in the 11th.
I think Chad Dawson wins a rematch, and he will gain more fans. Because he will have to up the pace and fight more aggressively.
Jean Pascal is a good fighter but i think Chad Dawson is still the better fighter, and he will prove it in a rematch.
When he decided to throw Jean Pascal never countered.
Re: Who is going to be on for Pascal/Dawson?
Good fights are ofter ruined by stupid excuses. Doesn't matter why. Dawson got beat, bottom line. There's no evidence that anything diffferent would happen in a rematch trilogy or if they fought ten times. Dawson had 12 rounds to prove something different but instead used the two or so minutes after the fight to try and explain why he didn't. Tough shit let's move on. Pascal to me last night looked like he made it appear he was doing more than he was, he was pestering dawson but not hurting him at all. I actually look forward to any of them fighting cloud, i think cloud has the ability to surprise any of them. Butte has got to be favored coming in still.

Dont know about that as Dawson doesn't even look like he 'thinks' ko. Has to be in mental make up and aside from early burst in 11th from which he backed off he gives so much away, passively. That uppercut he landed before the head butt was timed and executed nicely...Pascal was literally short circuited and frozen for a second and Dawsons instinct faultered...he should have pounced as if it was part of a combination. Personally I think he has things to strengthen and they cannot be found in the gym.

Rewatch the fight Pascal had that deer in the headlights face after getting rocked he just stood there with face sticking out, and if dawson had any killer instinct at all he would have finished it there.
Re: Who is going to be on for Pascal/Dawson?
Coulda, woulda, shoulda, but hey didn't. It was really frustrating watching dawson in there, just not throwing enough and its not like he was throwing bombs when he did throw. His corner I don't think did a great job either, I mean they must have known they're down by a few rounds after the 8th or 9th, dawson needed a fire lit under his ass. I think pascal was hurt two or three times in that fight, don't think he was on the brink of a ko loss because chad probably would have let him off the hook in the 11th like he did a few times in the fight. Then again dawson looked hurt himself a few times. Not sure what the extra 7pounds would do to bute but I'd favor him in a fight against pascal who seems to fight to much in spurts and against a more active fighter would have lost last night. Unless dawson changes his game plan, significantly increases his punch output and becomes a little more willing to to take some to give some he's not winning a rematch.

You were there for the fight? Very cool....Any reason why they did not sell out that you know of...Weather, late publicity there etc...I was sure the fight would sell out

Yeah I got there, the fight was perfectly scheduled for my temporarily return to Canada, what a blast:) Many factors explain why it wasn't full;
1) Jean Pascal starts to be really popular, he's still far behind Bute in term of popularity and people were even cheering for Diaconu in both of their bouts. Now he's starting to brand the city and the souls over here, this victory will help him greatly.
2) August is a terrible month for PPV as everybody's on vacations but no other dates matched because of Shaw and HBO exigences so they couldn't postponed it, especially because it would have been in competition with the Bute"s fight.
The ambiance was quite electric and people cheerful to see our homeboy getting the win, quite happy to have assisted live to a good fight, especially because the last time I went to an arena to see boxing was a while ago.
