Well.... both his parents are Puerto Rican.
For all the hate Khan is getting right now, and he deserves some of it, no doubt, the guy has a sh*t ton of mettle. Whenever he is rocked, which happens often with his chin, he get back up and tries to go on. I have to give him credit for that.
Oh yeah, no doubt. He may not know what to do when rocked, but he fights back. As far as British fighters go, I'd rather watch Khan go down fighting, than watch David Haye play "Ow, my widdle toe!" in the ring.
Re: Danny Garcia vs. Amir Khan Saturday night fight thread
Well, Mayweather lost another opponent. With the interest already waning for a Pacquiao clash since Pacquiao has slipped considerably in his last few fights, now Khan has lost, maybe the only legitimate fight out there is Sergio Martinez, if he beats Junior. Canelo is fighting Josesito Lopez, when there were a half dozen better fights, clearly he isn't close to ready for Mayweather. Oritz lost. Berto takes drugs. Mayweather beat Cotto already. Who does that leave?
Re: Danny Garcia vs. Amir Khan Saturday night fight thread
Khan fell into the trap Garcia's Dad set up for him.
Carl Froch is saying he should retire, I do not think they get on as they always have digs at one another.

I guess wladimir shoulda retired after being ktfo...look at him now utterly dominated the division after some ko losses at around the samme age as khan is. Stupid remark by froch, khan has the attributes and speed to where he shouldn't be getting taged that often...
he needs to work on his defense and controlling distance and what to do when hurt, he can come back from this.
It's one thing to get knocked out cold like Amir was against Prescott, and another to be knocked down 3 times, bounced all over the ring, and clowned by Garcia. No disrespect to Khan, but you can't train a "chin", and getting the shit beat of you doesn't improve your game. You also can't "train" someone to be a smart fighter, you either are or you aren't, and Khan is about as dumb as a mud fence.
Khan still might be able to do well against lesser competition, possibly even pick up another trinket, but as soon as he steps up the comp, and faces someone with determination and power, his chin and brain will fail him.

I guess wlad was a stupid fighter who became smart??? No you can change your fighting style, hell wlad wasn't ever knocked out cold he'd always get up and do the same flailing over the ring...khan needs to change his style to fit his attributes he's quick enough that he shouldn't be takin the majority of shots he does, he might become a boring fighter but its all about the wins
You were exactly right at the start of your post. Wlad became a smart fighter. He doesn't take unnecessary risk in his fighting style and has been able to remain at the top because of it. Khan can not do that regardless of what his trainers tell him.
Proof was when he was sparring that guy at Wildcard and his coach said "DON'T get wild!" - Khan's response was "Oh but it's exciting" or something of that nature. He'll always be like that. He's not humble enough to accept that he has a shit chin or that he may get caught with a BIG shot like he did on Saturday.

Totally agree. Khan has some real gifts. His hand-speed and accuracy are truly enviable, but he just CANNOT seem to accept that he has limitations. I refuse to believe that a trainer as savvy as Roach told him to fight the way he did Saturday night, or against Peterson for that matter. If I can see the problem, Roach must be able to see the problem, and he must have told Khan the problem. However, once he's in the ring Khan's lack of humility (and often respect) for his opponent leads him down a risky path where he tries to go toe-to-toe, or can't/won't cover up and defend for a while until he gets his senses back. Anyone can get caught with a big shot and hit the deck, but when Bayless gave him another chance (I agree with the way Bayless played it, since there were only 10 seconds left in the round and the minute's rest might have given Khan time to recover) he should have come out in Rd 4 and tried to hold, cover up or do whatever it took to survive, then Rd 5 or 6 when he had his senses back he could have resumed the attack on Garcia. Confidence is great, but refusing to acknowledge your weaknesses to the point where you try to do things you can't is not a great move in a championship fight. If Khan had the humility to accept his limitations he might one day overcome them, but I can't see that happening, and unfortunately that means he'll never be as good as he thinks he is.

I've always thought that Wlad's chin issues were more about a lack of stamina and/or heart, plus he has a phobia about "gassing" (gasophobia) and getting KTFO. Fear often times comes from what you know about yourself, and it's not necessarily a fear of what your opponent will do.
I wouldn't say that Wlad has gotten any smarter as a fighter since he got clowned by Brewster, but he adjusted his game, worked on his conditioning (with the help of Manny Steward) and improved his defense. Wlad doesn't get hit often and it's almost impossible to hit him with a clean hard shot.
Khan is a tough kid, has a ton of heart, and some really good boxing skills, but he allows himself to get hit with and/or takes big shots during many of his fights. And when that happens, Plan A flies out the proverbial window and there is no backup or Plan B. Like I said, Khan's chin and lack of ring intelligence will always be his Achilles heel, especially when he's in with tougher competition, such as Danny Garcia.

I guess ill just have to agree to disagree, I really think khan can adapt and change his fighting style he's only 25.
It's all good bro, after what I saw of Khan in the Maidana and Peterson fights and the asswhippin' he took Saturday in the Garcia fight, I just don't see Khan ever being able to hang with the big dogs again.
cheers

Lucas Matthyse is the #1 fight to make.
Barring that, Josesito Lopez if he goes all the way back down to 140, JMM, Peterson (if he can get things back in order). I
I'd favor any of those guys to beat Garcia.
Second-tier possibilities: Maidana, Judah. I'd favor Garcia in either of those fights.
My guess is we get a fight with Zab Judah next. Hopefully we do get a fight with Matthyse within the year. Daddy Garcia says they want 3 fights in the next 12 months.

with how many years of fighting the same way? Some fighters are adaptable and can stick to a game plan others can't. And time and again I've seen fighters swtich to a different style that once under pressure crumbles. You need some level of discipline & smart under pressure to do that.
Re: Danny Garcia vs. Amir Khan Saturday night fight thread
Just heard Khan comment back on Froch saying that Carl is jealous of his success, that he has more fans and is fighting in a better and more commutative division.
