The Nevada State Athletic Commission has reached an agreement with Canelo Alvarez that will result in the Mexican fighter being suspended for six months.
The commission and Canelo's team reached an adjudication agreement before Wednesday's scheduled hearing and it was adopted unanimously (5-0) by the commission.
Alvarez received a one-year suspension, but because he has cooperated it is suspended to six months, as the commission rules allow.
Alvarez was training for his mega rematch with unified middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin when he tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol from samples provided in February.
The fight was scheduled for May 5th in Las Vegas. Now Golovkin will fight Vanes Martirosyan on that date in Carson, Calif.
Alvarez will be eligible to fight Aug. 17, six months from the date of his first positive test. This means Alvarez and Golovkin could potentially stage their highly-anticipated rematch in September assuming Golovkin wins his fight with Martirosyan.
It's worked out perfectly for him then, GGG will be even older and they can reschedule the 'well marinated' rematch for September when Canelo will no doubt say he will 'prove all his doubters wrong' or some shit like that

He's got off lightly if you ask me.

Fat Dan has always been pro Canelo. Probably because he works for ESPN and they tell him to. Anyways, he wrote an article about that it was a good punishment because it loses him money because he only gets to fight once this year instead of twice. Fat Dan is the worst.

No matter. Canelo, he of the carefully cultivated choirboy image, is a convicted cheater. He joins the ranks of Margarito, JCC Jr., Salido and Fernando Vargas as convicted cheaters who have irreparably soiled their own reputations. Now he can continue to eat his contaminated meat. His stock has gone way down, and he matters only to blind Canelo fans.
