Mikey could make great fights at 135, against who? Arum won’t take Mikey’s calls. His stepson won’t take Mikey’s calls. Let’s recap this
When asked about Mikey/Loma Arum said Mikey is impossible to negotiate with.
Mikey responded “how would he know, he’s never negotiated with me, call me”
When asked about this Arum said point blank “I won’t negotiate with Mikey, I’ll make him an offer to fight on ESPN he can take it or leave it”
To which Mikey responded, call me.
Getting no call he called Bob and Bobs son in law. Neither took or returned his calls. So Mikey started talking to other people at Top Rank who said flat out that they don’t want Loma to fight him.
So I repeat, what great fights at 135? Linares? Does anyone think Linares would stand a chance against Mikey with his chin?
To get Loma he has to put his foot on their throats. To do that he has to show it isn’t an Arum/Mikey issue it is that they don’t want to fight Mikey issue. We already know that from Bobs words. But everyone has to know that or Bob can continue to do what he has already done “we will make him an offer” and just not make an offer when there is no follow up. Everyone needs to be “why won’t you fight Mikey?” to have a chance at it happening, everyone.
And Spence was quite clear after the Porter/Garcia fight his plan is Garcia December/January, Porter whenever Porter is ready to fight again, then Thurman. We don’t know if it will go down that way but it is clear Mikey/Errol still want to fight. Bad move from Mikey on that fight but if he comes out not damaged he can get loud “look at what I’m doing, I’m smaller than Loma but I’m looking for big fights, why won’t he fight me?” (Smaller in the sense they started at the same weight and Loma is taller) It would put major pressure on TR to make the fight we all want. If anyone thinks it doesn’t need major pressure they have their head in the sand ignoring what TR is saying. Mikey has been saying for a year now “they don’t want it”, Bob has been dodging and deflecting. It’s clear as day TR doesn’t want that fight
For starters it is a boxing forum, so brainstorming should be the norm.
Secondly I never said 'great' fights. I also said 140, which you left out.
Plans and people change, being a boxing fan this is common place and at the end of the day money talks. If they can come together where everyone is happy, the fight could get done. I might not, but I have seen harder fights to make come together.
If Mikey keeps his belt and Loma picks up Pedraza's then a full on unification between the 2 mashes the most sense for everyone.
Mikey could make a defense against solid Commey, then see if the Loma gift can be made. If not Hooker or Linares at 140. After that the WBSS winner would be excellent.
Of course Spence wants that fight, its win win for him, unless he gets beat.
You read it now you want, I'll hold out hope and be positive that both Mikey and Loma will demand the fight gets made.
I hope you are right. I just don't see anyone putting pressure on Loma to tell Bob what should happen. Imagine if Loma was "I can't get Mikey so I'll fight Spence" everyone and their brother would be riding Mikey. And Mikey would be pressured to make the fight. I want to see equality in treatment and the fight materialize.
Re: Garcia vs Porter on Sept 8 for the vacant WBC welterweight belt
I hope so too. Loma is coming of surgery so I'm good with him taking on Pedraza, I'd like to see Mikey defend against Commey around the same time, both with the intent of making the fight.
Personally I think Mikey/Loma is a bigger fight than Mikey/Spence, so it would seem like the best decision. Mikey's last fight was a unification, so a defence against Commey is fine.
Then they both need to do everything possible to get that fight done. Linares/Loma had many roadblocks but it came together. If both guys really want it, it will get done.

It is bigger, if it can happen. But a bird in the hand... and Mikey has been saying for over a year now that they won’t even talk to him. And there is still nobody saying “why won’t you talk to Mikey?” Has anyone ever heard them say “we are looking at Mikey Garcia after.....” after anything?
We knew after Linares it would be the old guy who didn’t even really win the belt, until he lost it and we knew it would be Pedraza. Fine, coming off an injury it’s fine to fight someone Tank made look like a punching bag. But let’s hear “after... we’re looking at Mikey” after Pedraza, after the next leap year, after something.
My mind says Arum said he won’t consider Spence for Crawford until it’s a PPV. Logic would indicate that Loma/Garcia falls into the same boat. A Commey fight doesn’t help Loma/Garcia become a PPV. I’m worried Arum will May/PAC the Spence/Crawford fight and the Loma/Garcia fight. I don’t want to see the best fights put off years. A year, fine, 2, I guess. But give an indication it’s closer than it was in January

FTR I get that every big fight can’t happen immediately. I just want indications they will happen eventually
Like, I don’t care that AJ/Wilder isn’t happening now. I just don’t want to hear Eddie say more things that indicate it won’t happen in April. Like saying if Wilder/Fury does 1 million PPVs then AJ/Wilder is a 50/50 fight in Wimbley. The math there is wildly wrong. If Wilder/Fury does 1 million it’s 60/40 Wilder and in Vegas. That sounds like it’s no closer to happening.

Agree with most of this, I also would like to start hearing both sides talking about this fight getting done after next outings. Rather than Mikey looking Spence's way, he should be making moves that lead to the Loma showdown. Loma is going to do his part to get that title from Pedraza and then I also want to hear him talking unification and no one else's name but Mikey's. That's the wishlist, we all know boxing makes it's own path.
What a Commey fight does do is, keep Garcia active and gives him some solid rounds, keeps Garcia a unified beltholder at 135 (I don't think he'll be able to keep the titles much longer, if he goes with Spence next, 1 if not both belts will probably need to be vacated), keeping the belts in turn helps make Garcia/ Loma become a PPV as it adds the 4 belt, lineal, undisputed bells and whistles, it also doesn't delay a potential Loma fight any longer than necessary, as most wouldn't expect Mikey to jump straight in with Loma after fighting Spence (unless Mikey wins, and even then I'd give him a pass).

I don't think AJ/ Wilder happens in April, think Whyte sneaks in there. We've all seen fights waited on too long or not made at all, lets hope this fight is one of the few that gets made as close to as possible as we'd like.
