CC Back man, and true this could mean anything, I was only stating what I thought to convey how behind Cotto I still was even when I thought Malignaggi was winning on points.

The classic phrase boxing judges use is they "reward the aggresor" or at least give him the benefit in the doubt with close rounds. Therefore even though not all of Malginaggis shots were clean, he was still through his enormous workrate mainting the attack which should be rewarded, especially when Cotto was not generating much.
I, like you, rate damage and accuracy more however, hence why I gave Cotto the last rounds. One thing with my scoring that may have affected it is I NEVER give 10-10 rounds as a rule. However last night there were many I could of scored like this, but instead I gave to Malignaggi. The rounds that Cotto won, Ill agree, he won by a clearer margin.
Your fighter came through in the end man, and against a fighter whos style was a complete mismatch, thats the mark of a true champion. I cant wait for Cotto, Hatton and Mayweather to start facing each other. Hopefully itll end up like the welterweights of yesteryear who all made a point of facing each other so often. I believe all would be great fights with Cotto Hatton being a barnstormer.

Starr what do you have to base this on? Surely you arent going to tell us Cotto is one dimensional now?
Or are you jus doing this for the sake of arguing? ;)
Re: Wacko's Double Whammy Drunken Round by Round Tarver vs Hopkins/Cotto Malignaggi
I just can Believe what I'm I'm reading here from alot of you here. Malignaggi was very Fast but Cotto Manage with that speed most of the super fast combinations that He threw hit Cotto' gloves you can tell that watching Cotto's face after the fight.

Cotto fights the same every fight. No matter who he's fighting.
Still has the same openings he's always had.
I DO think he would lose the rematch against Malignaggi but I doubt there will be one.
Are you saying that when Malignaggi stepped back and boxed instead of trying to slug with Cotto that Miguel looked good ???

No Im saying Malignaggi's blinding pace made him look good, thats why I gave him so many rounds, but Cotto got to him when he finally turned it up. If this was a 15 rounder Cotto would have either KO'd Malignaggi or won all 3 extra rounds IMO.
Maglianagii earned a new fan anyway, I love the guy, fast and flash and tough as nails!

Yes he is a tough fighter. And it wasn't like he got all the broken bones and stuff and went into a shell and just succumbed and gave up . Actually when he got all those broken bones he actually fought better and won rounds that surprised me.

It's pretty obvious that you can't be objective here. Smiling because he thought it was easy? Any boxing fan knows that a boxer's smile is false bravado 99% of the time. He smiled because he wanted to give the impression that it was well under control. He knew and every impartial viewer knew he had to dig deep in the championship rounds to pull it out.
Remember when Prince Naseem used to grin like an idiot every time he was caught flush? It sure wasn't an indication that he was having an easy time of it. Even as a huge Cotto fan, you can admit that the guy is all business. Smiling is not something he does during a fight. When he does do it, something's not right.

Like I said I'm done trying to convince him otherwise ::** He won't be objective when Cotto is involved ;)

Re: Wacko's Double Whammy Drunken Round by Round Tarver vs Hopkins/Cotto Malignaggi
All I know is that if Mali didn't hold on for dear life the last few rounds, he would have been knocked out. I give him credit for finishing the fight and being man enough to accept the loss without excuses. The fact that he said he didn't want a rematch right away and that he needs a few fights to gain more experience shows good character and sportsmanship which I didn't think he had. He gave Cotto his due and acknowledged he was out of his league a bit. That being said, it's funny how many guys bought into the hype and started thinking he was going to win. I'm glad Cotto punished him into submission like that after all the talking that was being done by Mali. Cotto proved alot to me last night as far as handling a slick and speedy boxer. Now I feel more comfortable with him fighting a wider variety of fighters.
Re: Wacko's Double Whammy Drunken Round by Round Tarver vs Hopkins/Cotto Malignaggi
I couldnt see the fight for other reasons yesterday ,but have just read what went from this post.
Reading Wackos take, IT sounded to me like Cotto was smashing Paulies head and its a wonder how paulie stood up for those rounds then Coto slacked off for one reason or an other and Paulie found a second wind and a hope by those easier rounds and picked it up in the last few and caught Cotto rethinking and tired.
Sounds like Paulie has heart but not the power or the proess to win a rematch.
Go Bernard !!! What can you say but, No 1.

(Pro fights should be scored on the more telling hits first though ).
then work rate ,ring generalship ,heart etc etc and last of all hits that just land but dont do damage or change the pattern of the fight at that moment.
Im just wondering "IF" those are the taken standards ,would it change (your) perspective on the result at all ?
Sounds like if the fight was judged on amature standards of clean strikes only PAulie may have won it on more strikes then ??.
Re: Wacko's Double Whammy Drunken Round by Round Tarver vs Hopkins/Cotto Maligna
Wow...can't beleeive this. Malignaggi took a beating last night imo. He got pretty well destroyed actually. I give him tons of credit for fighting until the final bell, but his high spots were sparatic and few and far between. I had it 116-111 for Cotto. I really wouldn't have expected to find much argument here either. Kind of surprising.
And I was equally surprised at the Hopkins doubters before the fight and even though I was silent on the issue, I thought Hopkins would win. I really was never sold on Tarver...ever.

I will tell you this much. I would bet money on Malignaggi if a rematch if it ever happened ;) Thats all. When Paulie tried to slug with Cotto was when he had trouble, but when he stepped back and boxed Cotto looked average at best and people are saying that Cotto was laying off Malignaggi but I seriously doubt that, he had no trouble moving in on Branco did he ;)
Tell you what, let a rematch happen, and when Malignaggi wins you'll be richer ;)
