Re: Official Montiel-Donaire Thread
Update:
Nonito just updated his facebook.
Nonito Donaire Jr.
I want to give up 2 things to God: my win last night and also
Montiels speedy recovery for his zygomatic bone fracture and reconstructive
surgery. In both moments, only He can help us.
Hope Montiel recovers well and still compete and maybe win another title at 122.
Re: Official Montiel-Donaire Thread
Just go in, been driving all holiday weekend. Watched the DVR, great performance by Donaire. Those quick KO's like that always seem to get me jump out of my chair.
Got to say he composed his mouth pretty well from trash talking in that interview.

Just when I was starting to like him he has to get all douchy and go thanking God...
Re: Official Montiel-Donaire Thread
Donaire used a similar strategy Khan used against Malingaggi, speed to stay toe to toe, trick distance and overpower. What a fight though. Nonito didn't give Montiel time to study and get used to him at all; if it went past the third round, I'm sure Montiel would have given him way more trouble.

IMO in the first round Montiel was trying to study Donaire but it would leave him standing around and getting pick apart. In the Second Montiel put the pressure on Donaire which was a bad idea because of Nonito's countering style. Montiel did land a lot more in the second though but it also made him more vulnerable. Montiel could of give Nonito more trouble if it lasted but it look like Nonito had an answer to whatever Montiel was doing. It was a chess match and both guys would answer eachothers move, the better fighter was a step ahead.

That's what I was worried about before the fight; that the loopholes in Montiel's hybrid defense would get fully exploited by Nonito's speed. I thought Montiel's chin would be able to deal with it based on his fight with Hasegawa where he showed some flaws in his defense early on, absorbed the shots and quickly adjusted. But, as you said, Nonito wasted no time and fully capitalized on every opportunity. He almost had a rhythm going with the jab in the second, and i think if he had slowly built on that instead of opening up immediately, it would have been different. I soon as I saw Montiel open up with a right hook, I face palmed, looked back, and face palmed again. xD

DUDE! I want your sig ;D
Re: Official Montiel-Donaire Thread
In the 1st round Donairre landed the same counter but didnt generate the same power because he slip the right straight from Montiel.
in the 2nd round He launched the left hook just in time to slightly absorb the right straight.
He adjusted. I think he beats the other Bantams ala Sydorenko or Montiel. if he is as sharp as that performance.
The challenge is at the upper division.

I slipped Montiel's left hook not straight right. It was a classic case of a hooker hooking a hooker. Only as viewers we thought Montiel had all the dynamite in his gloves. He was only touching off on Doniare, who was drawing him in. I swear Donaire is not lying when he said he was letting Montiel hit him.
Official Montiel-Donaire Thread - Montiel Denies Report. "What Fracture?"
Hahahaha.... Who fed this story to an over zealous reporter look for ratings? Or was it? Was this Doniare fans, Donaire's team, Montiel's fan's/team, or some other group just looking to stir the Pot?

The former WBC and WBO bantamweight champion, Fernando 'Kochulito' Montiel, denied reports that he suffered a facial fracture as a result of last Saturday's knockout loss to Nonito Donaire in Las Vegas. In press conference held Montiel's hometown of Los Mochis, Sinaloa in Mexico, the boxer clarified speculations with respect to the state of his health.
"I'm calm. A person learns from his defeats. I had no facture and I wasn't in a coma, or anything like that. I am already turning over to the next page. It's a very heavy page, but I have to do it," Montiel said. "You see, I have to admit that I was badly hurt by that shot. The fight was stopped at the right time because I wasn't capable of thinking at 100% or even 50%, or doing what had to be done. I believe that I'm going to rise from this and I will be a world champion again."
As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, Montiel is expected to return to the ring in three to four months.

Is that not the Jhonny Gonzalez the fighter?

I just watched again to validate.
Donairre slip a straight right hand in the 1st and slightly absorbed more like a right hook
in the 2nd before landing the left hook.
It was a straight right not a left hook bro.
