After he beat Chandler (April 7), Richie Sandoval was a hero in Pomona. There was a vacant shop in the Indian Hill Mall and he sat there for hours every day signing autographs.

Chandlers last fight. Tough life Richie had and a tough ending to his career. I've seen reports of him losing between 8 and 15 pounds in 3 days for that final fight that almost killed him. A pound a day that close to a fight would be tough let alone those kinds of numbers.

1910: Sam Langford ND 6 Stanley Ketchel, Philadelphia. Non-title fight.
Quote:
Ketchel and Langford will have to fight again to settle the question of supremacy. They went a hard six-round bout at the National athletic club here and were both on their feet, able to continue, with plenty of strength and aggressiveness when the battle ended, with no decision by the referee. No knockdowns were scored in spite of the terrific hitting power of both men, and while there seems to be no doubt that they tried to do their best, they will probably come together in a longer fight in California next July for a large purse.” Using a poll of 13 NY and Philadelphia newspapers, 7 had Langford ahead, 4 Ketchel, and 2 had it a draw. Thus, the mark of a Langford newspaper win.

If you watch the Bolanos/Williams fight you will come away in awe of Ike Williams because Bolanos was very good.
My friend once met Williams in a gym when he was an old man. Here was a guy that should be worshipped by anybody that loves boxing and nobody even knew who he was.
