Yup,Zorrita must be credited for sure,he never gave up although he did slow down in the middle rounds. He showed lots of heart and is still a good fighter imo but Guzman shined. It's a testament to his skills that his best performance came against the best opponent he has faced, and this is coming from someone who is not a huge fan. I respect him though. He looked ALOT sharper han he did v Barrios.
I don't think Guzman's performance made Manny Pacquiao want to fight him(I know OumaFan,Fesnter have been wanting to see this fight and I'm inclined to agree,I think Guzman/JMM/Juan Diaz all have good shots at beating Manny but especially Guzman due to this lateral movement, speed of foot and hand)_.

I though the first 2 could have gone either way,Guzman won the majority of the middle rounds but I had Soto winning the last 2/3 because all Guzman did was pose whereas Soto was forcing the action and landing the odd punch. I had it 7-5,at worse 8-4 for Guzman. Any less than that would have been giving ALL the close rounds to Guzman.
I think that Soto being 135 and Guzman being 148 really effected Soto because he is used to being the bigger puncher. You could even hear the difference in the sound of their punches. Guzman was the bigger puncher last night and Soto could not easily hurt a 148 pound man even if he is a big puncher at 135. Plus because of the extra weight Guz took his punches better. Soto landed some nice right hands and Guzman didnt even flinch. If Guzman came in at 135 like Soto it may have been a very different fight, but I cant discredit Guzman because he made weight for the weigh in and didnt do anything wrong by being heavy on fight night.
Re: It's just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Guzman vs Soto
Im on a bad roll of picks latley.I really think if soto went all out at proper distance and tempo things would have been much tighter.Fell into Guzmans Pace and could not cut off and neutralize movement/speed Of Guzman.
Joan deserves respect and I had Him winning but buy no means was this a white wash.Hit soto with tight and presice shots but never fazzed him.
I think In between all of that sliding and slipping he tends to catch plenty of punches. At times tries to duplicate that Floyd "pull back straight and One foot pivot" stuff. That 11th and 12th rnd Turn your back &scurry Is :(
With Paq and Marquez moving up and Barrera on way out(?),Guzman will chase the names and "big" fights but I honestly think hes in deep with them but he can also give some fits.
No doubt In my mind Soto will rebound and be right back in the mix.

CC,some fine points as per usual. I also thought the weight affected Soto,he's a big man at 130 and likes to impose his size and will on fighters. He could not do that against Guzman, because of the weight discrepancy. Guzman won though and as you said,he made weight so I musn't complain.

I agree with it not being a white wash,no fricking way/ I also agree that Guzman gave away the last 2 round due to his clowning around and he actually ran a couple of times but I won't hold it against him,I was HUGELY impressed with his performance. I have to disagree with 1 thing though,I think if he used movement like that,he woud give Manny and JMM a very tough fight.
Re: It's just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Guzman vs Soto
I completely did not know that that fight was last night. Wow.
I've always felt Guzman to have elite talent and skill. He's just always injured or something or another. He's going to make anyone look bad at times and I felt that Soto was pretty much tailor made for him.
Thanks for the RBR, sounds like typical Guzman. I'll definitely have to watch this one.

Where you been Amat, have not seen you online for a while bro!
Re: It's just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Guzman vs Soto
I here You loud and clear on Movement ElGamo.Paq has problems with speed and In a perfect world We and Marquez will get the much deserved Rematch with Paq....and narrow down the Possible Matches for Guzman ;D ;D
Marquez IMo would be an entirely different propositon and challenge for Guzman.Marquez has so many options available but it would seem he would have to swith to aggressor against Guzman.Guzman is a very good boxer with good mobility but I just think he Catches a lot of shots and Marquez could pull him into changing styles and have the diversity and different gears to maximize shots from range. That 7th rnd Juan sat inside with Soto and really looked vulnerable ,Marquez can change on a dime where as all brass Soto had 1 gear last night.

I agree. Ice,I REALLY think you should leave the scoring to someone who can see the picture clearly/has better quality or wait until you have seen a good quality version of the fight. Relying on those streams for a score in unreliable.10 rounds to 2?!?! ???
Also,I CANNOT believe that Guzman rehydrated back to 148?!WTF?!He was almost 2 divisions bigger than Soto and couldn't hurt him?!Dam!
Wacko scored it 11-1 aswell Gamo ;)
I thought it was 10-2 also. I gave Soto only 4 and 12. Totally outclassed.
Honestly, Guzman is the most deserving of a Pac fight after JMM. I think Pac-Juan Diaz is a good fight, but I really don't know where Pac goes from there. There's no one else worth fighting at 135 -- or 140. If he's going to start moving up, he'd have to go all the way to 147, which seems a little big. Though -- as I keep repeating -- Pac has weighed only 1 or 2 pounds less than Mayweather has in their last 3 or 4 fights (including when Mayweather fought "at 154" (and came in at like 148)). I really don't think Pac-Hatton or Pac-Mayweather is all that crazy, and either one would make absurd amounts of money.

The best part of the night was Bob Papa saying "Up next, Katie morgan on Sex Toys". :P

I'm sure you noticed that he started cracking up as he was saying it.
If HBO had a sense of humor, they would have Merchant say that line instead of Papa. Or Lennox.

Wacko you have gave every round to Guz except one round if i have read it right ?? so how is a whitewash out of the question ??
Because I gave him a round...a shut out to me is a shut out...but I appreciate you keeping track for me. ;) ;D
Guzman looked great...impressive as fwock...I picked him to win & like him as a fighter...but I didn't expect him to be that dominate.
Yes some of the rounds were competitive but Guzman still won easily.
I didn't say that he didn't win easily...I just didn't see it as a shut out due to the fact that Soto was in the fight. For it to be a shut out...the other man has to be totally whiped out & for every round...you feel me?
I meant shut out points wise Wacko Soto was competitive in some rounds i could of gave Soto atleast 3 of the close rounds.
Did I read this right?
It was a shut out on points BUT you could have gave Soto atleast 3 of the close rounds???
So then it wasn't a shut out.
There was A LOT of close rounds but it all depends on what you look for in a round.
I had it 7-5 for Guzman he gave away the last rounds, took the foot off the gas pedal and cruised by in the last rounds.
I was damn impressed with his style and he's def. top 3 SuperFeathers in the world right now.
Re: It's just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Guzman vs Soto
Yes you read right Mick i gave Guzman the close rounds but it doesn't really matter because Guzman won easy.
Re: It's just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Guzman vs Soto
any chance injin chi fights guzman?
Re: It's just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Guzman vs Soto
Read this article,WTF was this guy watching?:
http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/s...-7416919c.html
Fightnews had it 115-113 Guzman. I thought it was closer than the judges had it but Guzman clearly won andthing closer than 116-112 is crazy to me. The fight must have looked a lot different ringside.
Re: It's just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Guzman vs Soto
Dissapointed that I missed it, Guzman's one of my favorite fighters.
Was he wild offensively at all, sometimes he gets to wild throwing kind of out of control hooks? Did he tire down the stretch?
Weighing 148 is ridiculous. He's got the James Toney act down to a tee. Still can't help but like him as a fighter.
