also from Cuba, Yuriorkis Gamboa, gold medal winner in 2004.
This is his third fight I think. I think it's at 135 although apparently he'll be more like a 130 pounder.

my favorite prospect right now is 18 year old aj "bazooka" banal from the philippines.
solis was an exceptional amateur, perhaps better than savon.his power showed even in amateurs.although in world amateur championship final he very nearly got put down and out by david haye,he was practically laying down but sprung up without actually touching down,it was crazy.
Sasha hands down.
Look out for a lad from my birthplace, Kevin Buckley from Chester, he had his British TV debut last weekend and he looked like dynamite. Currently he's 3-0 very early on but he had that look about it, it was like watching pro debuts of top boxers, they just have it right off the bat.
I think Matt Godfrey is a future star!
He has looked pretty good.Quote:

He fought the other night and this kid is really impressive. He is a former member of the Cuban national team and was a top amateur. Hes now 7-0 as a pro in the super featherweight rankings and looks to have a very good future. I read about him before and I finally got to see him in action. What is even most impressive about him is he has already been fighting good opposition and is passing every test while looking good doing it. He has good skills, handspeed, and footwork. Also he has good power in both hands. Anyone else seen this kid?
CC BoomBoom, I was thinking about starting a similar thread. This kid looks promising, he has 7 fights since April. I have only seen clips of him, but he just k.o'd a decent fighter in DeJesus, the guy that took Marcos Ramirez the distance in a pretty close fight. Looking for big things from him, you know he has skills being a Olympian from Cuba.
Gamboa is great to watch too. Looks like a mini RJJ. Wouldnt be surprised if he is fighting for a world title in 18 months.
I owe ya a click. Yeah he stopped DeJesus and eJesus had never been stopped before I dont think and he is definately a solid fighter. Gamboa is a very schooled fighter as are most Cuban boxers. Im happy he didnt stay in the amateurs any longer though cause that can take life off their pro careers sometimes. I remember one fighter that I liked from Cuba who also fought good in the amateurs and went pro and didnt make a very succesful transition cause I think he was burnt out from too mant amateur fights. His name is Hicklet Lau, I think hes retired now.Quote:

BoomBoom I gotta CC#253 for reminding me about the 'Top Prospects' thread that started in 2006 by OumaFan.Quote:

Another kid to look out for is Roman Gonzalez whos 14-0 (14kos)
Blazing fast hands and very good power to go with it. I like that he's only 20 and his style is that of a ring veteran throws good combinations and moves well.
Hes recently joined Tiekken in Japan where Valero & Linares train.
