Hopkins vs Pascal II

I was thinking about hitting the hay, and I even switched off the lights and put my DVR on record. However- that fight woke me up! The most entertaining fight that I've seen from Hopkins! He mixed it up, dialed up his antics and came out cool. What a champ. :cool:

No, Froch is too good for him too IMO. I would like to see it actually, but Froch is clearly going to be busy for the rest of this year. Hopkins last hurrah was Pascal and was chosen because he can't fight for more than a few rounds. Pascal did exactly what he was expected to do and what Hopkins himself said he would do.

Hopkins should really retire with this win because there are much better fighters than Pascal out there. Dawson would easily beat Pascal in a rematch too.

Did you honestly see anything in Dawsons activity level (the thing that troubles Hopkins) that will force Hopkins off pace and on heels ??? His new standing tall form could haunt him vs a sharp shooter.....and he has yet to show desire for pressure.

Exactly and Chad Dawson was rocked a few times, by Adrian Diaconu's straight right hand. Chad Dawson is just so damn lazy.

Good point, Pascal definitely has limitations, among them, fighting about a minute some rounds, and then giving the round away by not being busy enough. In fairness to Pascal, Hopkins is just a tough nut to crack, and it wasn't for his lack of trying.

for the record, hopkins will knock damson the fuck out...that sneaky right hand will find that chin that sticks out like rudolphs fukcing nose

What I am saying is that if a tennis player can keep going a long time then it is more similar to boxing than golf or being a jockey because it is a very physical sport. Anybody can ride a horse when they are 45.

I agree that you basically never see a top 10 tennis player in their 40's, but in boxing it does happen. I guess it's because you pick up smarts and a fight is only 12 rounds. You can buy time in clinches and have a walk about and what have you. 36 minutes probably isn't that long when you are only really working for half that time. In tennis you have to play every point till its end and five setters take their toll. Plus you play week in week out. Boxers tend to recharge and only fight when they want to.

Granted he looked pretty pedestrian today, but he won the fight easily. Dawson has looked very good in recent years. Stylistically I think he is all wrong for an aged and ever more vulnerable Hopkins.

Hopkins should retire on this very decent win.

I don't see anything in Dawsons arsenal that B-hop hasn't seen, yeah Taylor gave him problems with the jab. I really dont see Dawson's jab as a game changer though.

I think Dawson fought a poor mans Hopkins esq fight tonight...minus the ring savy, footwork, confidence, improvements etc. I think tonights Hopkins picks Dawson apart.

The guy with more lazy tendencies in a 12 round fight then Pascal? I doubt Hopkins would really have trouble lowering Dawson's workrate, he seems to have less of a temper to fight at times and Pascal seemed to have more of one than him. Personally Hopkins could have an easier time with Dawson because of his demeanor lately. And even with that demeanor he is most effective counter punching, Hopkins is a counter puncher so it would be a game of who waits on who with Hopkins rushing in with a right hand left hook and tying Dawson up till the ref breaks them and Hopkins wins a decision while Manny yells at Dawson to be more active. The way to beat Hopkins is the way Pascal showed in the 12th, by not giving him any time to rest and trying to rough him up and even be dirty at times back to him. I don't see Dawson having that in him.

Like Majesty says, Pascal has proven to be more committed and more of a "warrior" than Dawson, and look what Jean did against Hopkins. I would have never said this a couple years ago, but at this point I'd favor Hopkins over the lazy one.
