Sitting here trying to think of Fighters Lol & news.what about Georgia (sp)
Uzbekistan and Ukraine are correct. Georgia Also.
That's four. Still looking for the obvious one.
Well at the risk of looking like this guy >>:dunce:.Since its SO obvious......Russia itself ???
Thinking Armenia as well, thanks to Vic lol
Russia is indeed the obvious one. OK, to summarize, out of 15 current countries that were part of the U.S.S.R., we have 5.
Russia, Estonia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Georgia.
p.s. I understand how tough this is. Myself I forgot that Georgia had been picked and had to look through the posts.
Ten to go.
edit: Armenia is correct, that's six.
Kamchaka? (sp?)
I knew of Yakutsk and Kamchaka via the board game Risk, btw? Yakutsk wrong so far...
Kamchatka is an island that is part of Alaska. Incidentally, the US tested an underground nuke there in the late sixties which I remember because of all the protests that the older kiddies organized at our school.
I'm pretty sure Yakutsk is part of Russia.
still at 6
Yugoslavia? Totally clutching at straws.
Sorry, no Yugoslavia. c'mon guys, let's try and wrap this up before X gets here and answers everything. :)
Romania, poland, belarus, kazakhstan, hungary, armenia?,latvia, lithuania, kryzikistan( mite be making that one up),moldova?
one of the above has to be wrong cause czechoslovakia should be in there...
Ok We have some more...
Russia
Estonia
Ukraine
Uzbekistan
Georgia
Armenia
from Armin we have ...
Belarus
Kazakhstan
Latvia
Lithuania
Moldova
I'm going to disallow kryzikistan, the spelling is a little too far off, but there is one that sort of sounds like it.
S we 11 out of 15 so far. good job Armin. Keep in mind we are talking USSR, you have a few Iron curtain countries here, but they aren't USSR.
Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and no idea on the proper spelling of the country I thought I'd made up,...haha
Two more to go
Slovakia......more history,less geography ;D;D
Sovenia?
No, and no. Here's a hint. The two remaining countries both end with stan.
Kurdikstan...(sp)..Damn,how in the helz did I not think of that,Kurds and such-I think I butchered that name??
Turkmanistan???
Turkmenistan is already picked. No to Kurdikstan I guess I'll let it go a litle longer. One of them sounds quite a bit like Kurdikstan, but the spelling is far enough off to reject it as an answer.
Well,Im done Teach.Really dont want to crack the books open and peak so heres to hoping X shows up fast ;D;D
chortling over here...
ok, I wanna see if he can get it, here's an update.
Out of fifteen current countries that were formerly part of the USSR, we have guessed 13. what are the final two? We have so far...
Russia
Ukraine
Estonia
Latvia
Lithuania
Belarus
Georgia
Armenia
Moldova
Turkmenistan
Kazakhstan
Azerbaijan
Uzbekistan
Kyrgyzstan would be one (though I'm guessing the spelling) and i think Tajikistan was one too.
Saw a great programme about them a while ago, called "the Stans" !
:thankyouthankyou:
Your spelling is perfect, and thus closes another episode of Geography Quiz.
All hail X ;D
After whom was the Spanish city of Barcelona named ....... and what is it's historical connection with the city of Cartagena?
Ok I'm thinking Barcelona was named after Fernando Barcelona, the famous Spaniard. ;)
I am not sure of the Cartegenia connection. Maybe something to do with The Moors?
No ..... not even close I'm afraid. It's a long time before the Moors (even Archie)
Bump :tumbleweed:
I seem to recall there was a connection between Hannibal and Spain, damned if I remember what it was though. Maybe he was born there, or trained, or educated. :dontknow:
That's very good .....
The Carthaginians conquered most of Spain and built lots of new cities. Cartagena was one of them (meaning literally 'Carthage' in the local dialect)
The grand mind and power behind all this expansion was Hannibal's father, and the city was named after their family - Hannibal, Hamilcar and Hasdrubal's surname was Barca ...... hence Barcelona.
Nice to get a question that stumped everyone !!!!!!
In 1920 which city in America boasted more millionaires per capita then any other in the states
something to do with the gold rush or something ... Klondike or Yukon or something?
Nope and nope
Probably going to end up being a surprise
Keep in mind per capita is percentage of the population of the town.
Hint, the towns High School teams nickname was the Millionaires
I'm thinkin it has to do with Oil, so I'll say Houston.
Nope, but your on the right coast now, well sort of,its not a coastal state, but its on the east side of the country
Philly shit that's a coastal state, Youngstown, OH then?
Tulsa, Oklahoma
Ok,apparantly I threw up a stumper, believe it or not it was Bramwell WV,the whole reason the town exists is a bunch of coal barons decided to build their own town. At one point allmost every coal baron in America lived in Bramwell.
This famous palace/fortress in Spain, constructed in the 16th century, is recognized as one of the finest examples of Moorish (Early Islamic) architecture. Bonus points if you know the city.
