Re: Wacko's Drunken RBR of Barrera vs Marquez! Last minute help from superheavyrhun
Ok, haven't got time to catch up on the thread yet but I'm going to give my thoughts.
1. That was quite possibly the BEST fought fight I have ever seen. Not the greatest fight of all time, but that was the definition of the sweet science. Neither fighter made a single mistake. Honestly, I think both fighters fought at their absolute best last night and I know a lot of Barrera fans would detest to that but I'm a Barrera fan too and I think that was the same MAB in there that beat Naz and Morales the third time out. It was simply a work of art. Amazing boxing.
2. Marquez started slow again but once he started beating Barrera to the punch, and when he put the left hook in front of the right hand that's what paid off. The commentating team said it was because Barrera was slowing down but I think it was because, well Marquez' timing was getting better and the left hook to open things up really disrupted the timing of Barrera and he wasn't as able to come back with punches. The left hook of Marquez really did a lot for his fight.
3. The 7th round. Barrera started to get nailed with that left hook right hand combo and that was a bit troubling for me to watch because he was just being beat senseless for a good 2 and a half minutes BUT, Marquez made one of the only mistakes of the fight and got a little carried away and came way from the outside with the right hand. His feet were wide, Barrera stepped forward with a right of his own and dropped him. It was a punch very similar to the one that Carlos Baldomir hit Zab with in the 7th round of their fight. It was a knockdown no disputing that BUT. Now here's where a lot of people are going to disagree with me but I think that Nady dropped the ball on this one. Awesome ref but how long was Marquez in that awkward position without Nady stepping in? It was five seconds at least and Marquez was close to getting up. Barrera motioned to hit Marquez, he hesitated seemingly waiting for Nady to step in, he feinted pulled back again and still nothing from Nady until Barrera was moving forward already. Protect yourself at all times and Nady wasn't calling a knockdown. I didn't have that much of a problem with what Barrera did because of how awkward of a position Marquez was in and how Nady waited forever to step in. I thought he deserved a warning and obviously should have been credited with the knockdown.
4. I thought the fight was in the air going into the second round in terms of how the rounds were scored. The deduction threw it out of wack. But to be fair, I have only seen the fight once and after the 7th round my memory fuzzed up a bit and I couldn't remember how I had the fight scored before that. It differed from Letterman's almost every round though. I thought Marquez won the 1st and 3rd. I thought Barrera won a lot of the mid to late rounds. I thought that fight was as close as it gets and I really don't understand lopsided scorecards going Marquez' way. Barrera was the ring general, he had the better defense and the more effective punching with the exception of a few rounds. The last bit is to be debated but I counted 5 rounds that Barrera won on those grounds. I'm not saying the fight went one way or the other but that's how I saw it.
5. REMATCH!

My thoughts exactly.Watch it without the commentary and you see JMM won in a clearer fashion. For those that think MAB won, how?
This writer saw Penalosa winning 116 - 112. I agree. Again, Penalosa blocked and evaded a lot of the punches of PDL. PDL knew that he could not hurt Penalosa and was himself feeling the punches of Penalosa as shown by his defensive style in the last 3 rounds.

BS !
So because the ref. missed something it's OK for fighters to take matters into their own hands and throw rules and regualtions out the window?
Marquez's low blows were not intentional but as a result of the exchanges.
Barrera has long been known to be a dick in the ring & out & then play nice after the fact. That's the main reason that I have never really dug on Barrera. He calls Morales an Indian & slaps him @ a presser & then says it's his fault that they have a rivalry.
Barrera butts Marquez, hits him after he's down, & Marquez is the one who's at fault.
Please.
Unintentional is unintentional...Barrera's actions are not unintentional.
A foul is a foul intentional or not . Why is it that Marquez' repeated fouls go unoticed but Barrera loses 4 points cuz of it . The ref even ignores his knockdown . The judges were against him too . He should stick his fingers up at the sport and walk away after all he has done for boxing , for him to be treated like this is a joke .

And this moron is a supposed boxing expert?! Marco CLEARLY controlled the first half of the fight with his jab and was quicker to the punch. Even in the second half of the fight, where Marquez came on strong, there was no evidence of a "clearly superior fighter." It obviously doesn't take brains or EYESIGHT to be a boxing columnist.

Well, I actually agree with him in some parts of what he typed, though I don't think JMM was 'clearly superior fighter' I do think JMM was clearly the aggressor and the one going forward while MAB wen't backwards, MABs jab was superior then JMM at times they traded jabs back and forth but MABs jabs stood out more cause he was the one throwing last.
As I've been saying to me JMM was the aggressor was coming forward throwing combos, lefts, rights, uppercuts just all around while MAB tried to steal rounds in the later part of the rounds. I'll say this again point out in which rounds JMM slowed down or looked really tired... I saw JMM active for all 12 rounds throwing and tradeing. Now look at MAB and for rounds 7, 9 & 10 MABs activity seemed to slow and his punches just didn't have the snap....
Re: Wacko's Drunken RBR of Barrera vs Marquez! Last minute help from superheavyrhun
The only way Barrera could've won was to take chance, go into a slugfest and go for the knockout, which I expected him to do. But the problem is that he went to box and so played into the Marquez game, a game he can't lose. I really thought he still had what it takes to ko Marquez, but seeing him fight, perhaps he's already lost it - definitely he has lost his prime though. His condition was about the same as his last fight and so perhaps his physical condition has dropped and levelled off at that point. Still, if he is nuts enough to accept the rematch, he should go into a rumble, mix it up hard, really hard, and go for the ko. Although after seeing him fight I doubt if he still has 'it' but he's got no choice cuz that's his only chance.

Agreed. If Pac get's the rematch...because you know a clause was in the Barrera contract...then Manny better be ready.
Marquez has finally proven that he has two styles...pin point counter puncher & technical aggressor.
All right, Wacko, I'm throwing out my fake Barrera fan's hat and gonna wear my fake Marquez fan's hat for a week (boy, do I look silly on them) and joining your party, cuz there ain't nothing like joining the winner's bandwagon. ;D How about 'your boy can whip my boy'z azz real bad' for a start. But don't forget that's good only for a week though, and after that it's back to reality. ;D

I don't think you need to say more than that. When it comes to the ultimate example of why we all, whoever we are fans of/not fans of/ just plain hate the guts of, love the sport, then that was it. Fan-bloody-tastic. It was the boxing equivalent of steak. You can look at it from loads of different angles, it had 100 different aspects to it, and mostly, it just tasted damn fine.

They have history. MAB didn't start it. It goes way back but the the points of 'evidence' are false.
Morales tries to make a deal of the so-called class difference between then. Barrera calls him an indian
Morales keeps calling Barrera fairy, Barrera says say that again and I'll hit you. Fairy. Bam
What I will say is this IF you mess him round in the round, hit low, on the break, butt etc he WILL retaliate. I've not seen him start the aggro. Why should he?
