Ninety-nine out of a hundred, the one with but a puncher's chance goes home empty- handed. In this case far worse... Mayorga goes home an ugly loser with his manhood finely tucked behind his tail.
I'll wager he has more man hood than you.
He fought his ass off tonight, but pretty much pissed on that by quitting and leaving himself open to sly comments from arm chair warriors and cowards.
Really disapointing.
FUCK.

Yep, iv got no excuses. I thought hed wipe the floor with Cotto. I thought hed be too big and strong. I was recently watched figths of his from like 8 years ago where hes just a brawling machine that consistantly throws punches from everywhere. What we saw tonight was a 38 year old, semi retired, hesitant and somewhat tired fighter extend Cotto in to the 12th. Had this fight have happened 8 years ago I still believe the outcome would have been what I thought was going to happen.
Although Mayorga made weight comfortably, he seemed to lack any energy and wanted to sit and fight off the ropes rather than pressure and use his strength which was how he would have won.
Ya he did look a gas'd in corner after the the middle rounds and it looked like he started pacing himself after that.

funniest shit was the only thing that ross talked about leading into this fight was that Cotto was a quitter and Mayorga was gonna force him to quit, ohhh the irony
Mayorga won 4 rounds and hurt Cotto throughout the fight. He fought his heart out and tried to get Cotto into a brawl but Cotto knew better and chose to box and run and jab.
After that, Mayorga came out in the 12th knowing he needed a knockout and was behind, got caught with a great hook, then proceeded to shit and piss all over everything he did tonight and QUIT.
Absolutely heartbreaking and disheartening to watch.
Mayorga failed. Again. For the last time.
IF he had gone the distance then that would have been something. But NO, he chose to FUCKING QUIT...:-\
I thought he put up a fair showing, but at 37 he just can't fight with intensity for 3 minutes a round and that is what makes Cotto wilt. A younger Mayorga would have had Cotto kneeling before him, but at 37 Cotto knows he can just stay on his little twinkle toes and and weather the occasional flurry. But when those flurries do cme Mayorga still looks dangerous. He knows himself that he is just too old and that's why he has retired.
The ending was dodgy and it's a shame it has resulted in another 12th round stoppage, but Mayorga did what he could with what he has left and I don't think there is any great shame in going out the way he did. If the hand really was screwed then fair enough. I'm glad to see him retire like this, part of me wishes certain other fighters could find it within themselves to do the same before it becomes mere parody. At times in there it was parody, but it was harldy Tyson/McBride. Mayorga has gone out with dignity intact IMO.
I wish him well.

So you believe his retirement ? I do not. He is broke and still must fight. Don King reportedly took 90% of his purse from a lawsuit he won over Mayorga. Hopefully the Nicaruaguan President has a job for Mayorga in his cabinet.
I have my doubts about the hand injury and I am a huge rabid Mayorga fan to the bitter end. God it fucking pissed me off to see Mayorga quit that way in the 12th. A 12 UD loss is one thing, a stoppage is another entirely.
Re: Cotto - Mayorga Fight Thread
I didnt watch this fight, Im just curious how would the Cotto that fought tonight do against the Margarito that PAcman fought??

I don't think he hurt him throughout the fight. He buzzed him once by hitting him behind the head five or six times in a row, but that was the only time Cotto seemed legitimately stunned.

I think Margarito stops him again.

He was hurt several times that I saw from right uppercuts and more often overhand rights. Granted he wasn't hurt as bad as he was in the Corley or Torres fights, but Cotto was hurt. And in full on retreat mode. But I like Cotto, he fought well, out boxed Mayorga and landed some good clean shots, none of which hurt Mayorga until that 12th round when Mayorga went for the desperate KO and rose up after throwing his combo with his chin and the air and got caught with a great Cotto hook. Maybe his hand was hurt but it looked shady to me. Mayorga was exhausted and hurt and had enough in the end. Very very disapointing.

I wonder how much chin and steam Margarito has though after the beat down Pac gave him. That would probably be the most compelling rematch of the year.
Re: Cotto - Mayorga Fight Thread
154....Angulo + Cotto + Alvarez + Kirkland + Margarito + Wolak (?)....somewhere in there are a couple of hellish fun brawls ;D

I think he knows he is done. He can't find anymore big paydays. Certainly at this level we have seen the last of Mayorga. Maybe he will change his mind, but I like to think that he will stick to his word and look for a job.
I would have liked to see him finish too. I certainly don't think Cotto hurt him particularly badly, so can only assume that he really was hurt in terms of the hand. Fighters have continued with far worse, so there are question marks, but thems the breaks. I'm not too upset by it. I'm not in the position of the fighter, so if that's the way it ends, then so be it. All things considered he fought pretty well for a 37 year old who has hardly been Mr Active for the past half a decade.

They're both on the slide, but I think Margarito has more left and he definitely has the mental edge over Cotto given how their last fight played out. I also think he has a much better chin.
