If LA makes the playoffs the Hurricanes get an extra 1st round pick in the draft
It's mind boggling to think of the teams that won't and PROBABLY won't make the playoffs this year.
San Jose will miss for the first time in like over 10 years (anything to do with stripping Jumbo Joe of the captaincy?). The Kings are looking doubtful, despite having the same core team that won Stanley Cups in 2 of the last 3 years (as I write this now, the kings are down 2-1 with under 5 minutes left while Winnipeg have gone to overtime. If LA lose, they're done). Boston are looking doubtful now. Florida has a strong team, so did Columbus, Dallas and Colorado - none of them are in the playoffs.
I like Nashville's chances this year, they have a lot of depth and a fire under their asses from being losers for so long. If the Senators make it, they can be a real threat. Since the all star break they have been the hottest team in the league. With Andrew Hammond in net, the Sens have gone an incredible 19-1-2
If the Detroit Red Wings had a Steve Yzerman-type, they would be at the top.
Stevie Y, still the greatest shot ever taken!

Serves them right, they publicly put the blame on Joe Thornton for their playoff woes, a guy who's done nothing but put up points consistently for 10 years for them and was nothing but class. They shit on him, striped him of his captaincy and now they're out of the playoffs for the first time since he started leading the franchise... go figure.
My Canes won last night and I watched the game with my surround sound on (I just recently hooked it up) it was EPIC! How did I ever watch sports on tv without it? The Canes have a ton of youth, lots of upside for the coming year, but we're certainly going ot have to lose some dead weight and Semin has to give 100% every game not just in games where he feels like doing work.
Thornton really got treated poorly, he's such a steady player and a true leader, he'll do anything you need as a player: score, pass, fight, screen the goalie....he does it all. Sure he's is getting older, but damn you don't treat a class player like him the way San Jose has.
Semin is just one of those guys who's never going to be consistent because he doesn't have the character to give it 100% every time out. Canes should get rid of him. I guess Carolina will have an 8.5% chance at getting Conor McDavid. That's not bad. There are some really good prospects in this draft so the chances of getting a solid player are pretty good.
This is who the Canes are supposedly going to draft

Makes sense. The Canes have no good right wingers, Semin was supposed to fill that void but he's a bum. Timo Meier could be another solid option, he's got good size already and is only going to get stronger.
McDavid and Eichel will go first and second, but then you got guys like Dylan Strome, Mitch Marner, Pavel Zacha, Hanifan... there's no shortage of good picks in the draft.
Never know what you're going to get with the Ruskies these days. No more "sure things" from there. When Semin is on his game he's amazing but it's inconsistent.
6 goals and 13 assists doesn't cut it when you're making as much as he does. He still has 3 years left in a 5 year 35 million dollar deal. If he keeps playing like he has this year it could be the worst contract since Scott Gomez's 7 year 51 million dollar deal.
Well the regular season for my adult league games is up, we finished the season 8-3-2 and were the ONLY team to give the #1 team any challenges. We're headed into the playoffs as the 3 seed. We've got a decent team that we're facing but we SHOULD win every game from here on out. I got an assist last night, but didn't do too terribly much as I was playing defense (which I hate when I can't check anyone).
Anyone have a favorite in the West or East they think will win it all....I think the New York Rangers are a good bet
