The US MUST win vs Algeria and we certainly can....good news about our yellow card today is that Findley is out and I assume Buddle is in.
Coming in 2nd in this group could be a GREAT thing because it could have us facing off vs Ghana whom we owe some payback.
We need a quality first half and that'll seal it up for us
I know the English fans don't like to hear it, but the team is severely overrated. Just playing in the Premiership does not make them great players, neither does the huge wages. If anything, huge wages deplete their desire to represent their country. I think the sooner that the massive (and unwarranted) expectation in the country disappears every time there is a major tournament, the more relaxed the players will be and the better they will perform. But no question, they simply lack the exceptional brilliance of other nations to have ever realistically competed this year.
It says a lot that Heskey was probably the best player of the first half! :-\
They have no chemistry....they can have all the stars they want to but if you lack chemistry and cohesion then you won't win anything. GREAT result for the US but we NEED to demolish Algeria.
We should look for Buddle and Edu to start and Gomez, Feilhaber, and Holden to sub.
0:0 very interesting situation indeed.
I think chemistry is one problem, but I think the hard fact is that the players are simply not that good. They have zero creativity... In my opinion, most of their good performances at club level are due to the ton of creative foreign players all around them. I think the only genuinely very good players in the team are Rooney, Gerrard and Cole. The rest are simply decent.
But, you know what will happen after the tournament - Capello will catch a sh*tstorm and possibly get sacked, and excuses like 'fatigue' and 'over training' will come to light too. Anything but accept that they simply have sub-par talent at the moment. Then the hype will begin again for Euro 2012, and I'll find myself more than likely writing this message again. :p
Would it ever occur to anyone that Algeria are basically just as good as England (talent wise) at the moment? Same goes for the USA.
Well for all the 3-0, 4-0, 5-0 talk for England before both the US and Algeria games, I think your point is definitely proven. Tons of hype, if they don't make it out of the group round (which is a possibility) I'm just going to sit back and laugh. Seriously I've never heard so much hype for a team.
I always thought Algeria was the one to worry about because they are scrappy, they whipped up on Egypt whom we had big trouble with.
The US could face retaliation by refs from arguing against that blown call (that's ALWAYS a reality for Americans).
We're going to come out on a mission vs Algeria (as are they) and we have to convert. We need Dempsey and Altidore to do more....Donovan willed us to a draw, that's a fact.
England has individual talent but why they don't work well together is beyond me....you'd think Rooney would have done more but I guess teams have figured out Stop Rooney = Stop England.....you guys desperately needed Owen or someone of his calibre and they need Beckham for set pieces. They really should have brought Johnson along....horrible results for them, I'd be devistated if I was British..........
........and I'd also be worried about the soccer team, BOOM hahahahahaha
We are shit!! Plain and simple! Overpiad and therefore undermotivated! And what is it about the England team that turns once good managers into clueless kunts. The average man in the street can see better than Capello waht the problem is and which team should be picked. His substitution are beyond belief in their sh1teness!!
I can't believe I'm actually contemplating us getting out of the group with 3 points :-\ Seems absurd but its possible now. England look broken so I wouldn't be totally shocked if they drew with Slovenia and we've scored 3 goals compared to their 1.
But that's all shit. We just need to win the game, we do, were in.
If I was England's manager I'd go with
-----------------------Rooney--------------------
-----Lampard-------------------Gerrard---------
----------------------------------------------------
--Lennon-----------Carrick-----------------------
----------------------------------------Johnson---
----Cole------Terry-----Carragher---------------
----------------------James------------------------
Yeah the formation is a bit askew but I figure Lennon and Johnson can place crosses from outside, Gerrard and Lampard can attack to the middle or place crosses from outside and Rooney can be on the receiving end of all of them.....but I'm just an America, what do I know about soccer?
Re: refereeing in the World Cup....World Cup Officials should come from the Premier League, La Liga, and Serie A ONLY (maybe the Bundesliga)....we can't have this Busch league bullshit deciding games, that was this dude's FIRST World Cup match.....one can only hope it's his last
FIFA (like the UN) have this idiotic idea that "everyone" must be represented regardless of how good or poor they actually are....it's idiotic. You wouldn't let a SAL league Ump do the World Series, you wouldn't let an MLS ref do the Champions League Finals, and you shouldn't let this idiot from Mali ref the World Cup!!!!
England should be looking to set up Rooney more, he's having to create for himself. Too many cooks in the kitchen up front? I would start Crouch where they are starting Rooney and put Rooney at Lamparts spot, he can come off the bench. He has been hogging the ball and taking shitty shots IMO.
As a United fan, I fucking love Wayne Rooney.
Fair play he has been utter shite in the world cup but this, after the game, was brilliant.
