What an ugly f*cking game so far!!
Oh boy....... it's down to penalties.
Weak.
Always the same.
Let’s hope for the best.
Well, I'll be........... ;D ;D
The penalty jinx is over.
Yes!!!!¡!!!!¡!!!!!!¡!!!!!!!!!!!
About time.
Come xwetie.
See you Saturday.
England have to play better against Sweden. That was not a great performance although England were far the better team.
Remember.... Colombia didn't have James Rodriguez. England has to perform like they did in their beating of Panama. True.... Panama is an inferior team.... but England was firing on all cylinders in that one.
England were firing on all cylinders against Columbia. Columbia were just better, employed a lot more gamesmanship and lets be honest were a pretty dirty team. Clear red with the headbutt, 5 minutes time wasting before Kane could take his penalty, unsporting conduct kicking lumps oout of the spot mid game etc. The stupidity of the British government warning fans against travelling also has had an impact. Out traveling support has been decimated. So made up though, proper bollocks to hold it together thru extra-time and life the penalty curse in what is a very young and inexperienced team.
This team has finally understood that being gentlemen and not drawing the reffs attention to infringments etc has done us no favours over the years. Many of us old fuckers can still remember the moment Owen first exaggerated a dive, even though it was from a clear fowl to get a penalty 20+ years ago. The rest of the word has been doing it for years. We have now also realised that it is not worth letting the opposition wind you up. VAR has helped but in the past the exasperated push of Stone? yesterday would have been a red for a stroppy Becks. We expect it and accept it as part of the game now.
Our set pieces have been consistent and we look dangerous from dead balls. While we don't have a fantastic free kick specialist our corners have been consistent and the willingness and organisation of men filling the box has been great.
Bring on the Swedes. I think we may find them a bit more straight forward opposition to Columbia. They will give us room and time to break them down. Hopefully we can maintain this momentum .
We were not good last night but Colombia did not deserve it at all.
And the penalty ghost has finally been laid up rest.
The videos I'm seeing from pubs up and down the country when that penalty went in make you realise what it means to people.
But I'm still not getting carried away
Well.... again.... glad England made it through. But now there's only two South American teams left in the mix. Although I'm not a big Luis Suarez fan, I'm gonna have to root for Uruguay vs France, just like I'm obviously going to root for Brazil vs Belgium. If they both win, we'll assure ourselves a South America vs Europe final.
