We need to get back to that. But early on at least we attempted to call it out. Belts and titles have gone the way of jack rabbit orgy, simple quantity over quality and fans are just counting along like muppets. The literal era of special issue "bling-belts" ;D. All comes back to who did you fight. In fairness though I give Oscar more cred for taking a wbo strap from Bredahl than the wbo strap he never actually "took" at all a decade later over Sturm.
i remember asking someone at the time oscar beat fernando vargas & felix sturm why oscar wasn't considered a five or six division champion like sugar ray or thomas, i was told the wbo wasn't a major championship. it begs the question, when did the wbo become recognized as a moajor championship? late nineties? early two thousands?
Re: Ryan Garcia vs Dela Hoya at 23
Benn beat Doug Dewitt and subsequently legitimised WBO in UK when Eubank got his hands on it and defended it 20+ times.
Kronk and Moorer had hold of it late 80's.

the wbo wasn't needed for lennox v evander to become undisputed in ninety nine. corrie sanders gave up the wbo for a shot at the wbc & vitali in two thousand & four. funnily enough the first four belt unification was oscar v bernard in two thousand four

Oscar was an Olympic gold medalist and amateur phenom who came to the pros chasing greatness and legacy at a time when you had to earn both through performing and pushing yourself. Garcia is a talented kid with good amateur pedigree who is chasing recognition at a time when success is based off social media usage and your number of followers. Shakur Stevenson will be a better comparison for Oscar, as he is an Olympic medalist and fighter who is chasing greatness and legacy through performing and fighting.

Oscar was fishnet, and beat up by a hard gal
Re: Ryan Garcia vs Dela Hoya at 23
I never liked Oscar but I always respected him. (What do I care if he likes to put on womens clothes and stuff himself with toys, ain’t my business).
I think when you respect someone you don’t like it means even more. Similarly I never liked SRL but I always respected him. I think I just prefer guys that are a little rough around the edges. They seem more genuine. But that’s probably not even remotely true. Just some deep seeded bias from a blue collar background most likely. Always preferred the mean mug over the big smile.
I don’t like or respect Garcia. He’s probably a top 6 LW though

I am the same prefer Hagler to Leonard and Fury to AJ.
