Well, let's see....
There's Rios himself, Robert Garcia, Rios' parents, the two corrupt judges...... and wait..... it appears Fenster also scored it for Rios. That would be a total of 7 people. Add a few close (and blind) friends in there, his wife (and/or girlfriend), and you'd be pushing what..... about 15-20 people that probably scored the fight for Rios.
Go figure.
You'll be surprise how many people still gonna bite. Either way 116-112 Abril is what I scored. He should of got the win. That's not even debatable. At the same time he should of had points taken away for his constant, non-stop holding. The ref as is his usual did a poor job
i watched it from round 4 ish last and i didnt think it was a robbery
it seemed to be the general consensus that rios won the first few too so perpas if i had have watched it all i would have scored it for rios
I personally think rios is a dick, and him missing the wieght and all that shit doesnt help my opinion
do you reckon coz he is such a spanner people are scoring it the other way?
like pac v marquez, they have 2 very close fights and those who were for marquez put the result down to boxing politics and pac getting a gift, this opinion esculates and with people wanting to see controversy it now becomes common knowledge that marquez is robbed because of the power of pacs promoter
then they have a third fight (just as close) and marquez is robbed again and all the fans point at money and bribed judges
i for one thought pac won the last 2 marquez fights and i cant really remember the first
i also think i started this post saying one thing and went on to something completely different :)
i thought abril won....but i can see how it was scored for rios.
rios was the agressor. he moved forward and tried over and over to initiate exchanges.
while abril ran and held and clinched. rios threw alot of punches in those clinches that we at home, with the benefit of tv could see were being blocked by abril's right, but judges don't have that advantage.
the last few rounds went to rios. the second round went to him as well. being the bigger name... they may have given him the first round as well... there's 4 rounds right there.
so its not such a suprise that he was given the win.
i'm not agreeing with it... but i'm not suprised.
;D Fenster.
In seriousness, without having to assume beforehand that the judges are incompetent and corrupt, it SHOULD be a hell of a surprise. To say it isn't is only to acknowledge what a farce the sport is. If the judges can't tell that Rios aggression wasn't effective and he was clearly losing rounds then what the hell are they doing there, why don't they have a better angle of the action? It's outrageous, a monkey could've scored this for Abril and if boxing had a shred of respect for it's audience or accountability then this simply could not happen on a PPV card.
I don't think they get paid anything. I think they do it for a regular paycheck. They know who the casinos/promoters want to win so tha's what they do. It means they get picked for future fights and they're not at home watching them on TV.
Mickey Duff, the old British promoter was in Vegas not long after JCC Senior-Meldrick Taylor and bumped into Richard Steele in a bar. He asked him why he stopped the fight when he did and Steele said "Mickey, I've got to work in this town." Times are tough matey, people need work and boxing judges are no exception.
Ok, let me say one thing about the "aggresion" factor. It's supposed to be effective aggresion. You can wade in... get peppered with shots... miss a few of your own, or get them blocked.... and you haven't done a damn thing. Are boxing judges such imbeciles that they can't tell effective aggresion from INeffective aggresion? Who cares that Rios was coming forward all night. He hardly, if ever, connected cleanly on Abril. Most of his shots were blocked, missed altogether, or were smothered by Abril. A blind chimpanzee on crack could've scored the fight better than ol' Curly, Larry, and Moe the other night.
So again.... no frigging way on Earth did Rios win that fight. The decision was outrageous, and the only two possible explanation are:
1. Two of the worst, most retarded boxing judges in the history of the sport.
2. Money exchanged hands.
End of story.
No disrespect bro, but have you ever been ringside for a fight? The judges have the best view in the house. When you watch on TV you're at the mercy of TV directors. They can make whoever they want look the winner.
It may have looked like Rios lost on TV but the people with the best view saw him win. Trust me. If you watched that fight ringside like I didn't you would've made Rios the winner. Fact.
