Billabong has been offering 1 mil to the first person to surf a 100 foot wave for a while now havn't they?

Actually tow-in surfing is easier than paddling in, if the ocean isn't too choppy granted. You're strapped in so you can manuever like you couldn't on a regular board and you're going much faster - you just need a big set of balls. Of course if the waves breaking are really 100 feet then yeah heh, it's gonna be some rough water and more than likely you'd need a foil board otherwise the wave surface will be tooooooooooo rough to ride.
This is about the most you can do with a typical tow-in board without eating it, and thats 60-70 feet

There is a spot here in Ireland called "Aill na Searrach" off the west coast under the cliffs of Moher. It produces waves of atleast 70 - 80 feet high if there is a storm out further in the Atlantic, but at that height, it is un-surfable probably... the waves just crash into the cliffs with as loud a BOOM as you could imagine... then again, I'm not a surfer, so maybe some nut out there will try and surf it at that height, haha.

wow hadn't a clue that Ireland had their own tow-in waves
kinda reminds me of a toned down version of mavericks - still got the boulders to crash into, but it's just one huge boulder and not abunch of little ones extending across the whole break
paddle-in surfing is one of the funnest thing I've ever done in life, can't imagine what tow-in would be like

Oh yeah, I've seen pics of Mavericks. The waves it produces are monsterous!
Aill na Searrach was only surfed for the first time last October and even then, it was only really Irish people that knew about it. Once they released the video in January, that is when the real buzz started and Kelly Slater famously stated; "It looks like the best wave in the world." They're expecting a whole load of surfers there this autumn/winter. Crazy bunch!
Surfing is one of those things that I have always wanted to learn, but never got around to actually doing it. :(

HAvent heard.The break is shipwreaks if you can get a photo of it ,its hairy its got thre steps in the wave you have slip over!
We went down to King Island recently for two weeks surfing thats in between here in Victoria and tasmaina.
It has a massive tow in wave there and it faces Africa so theres nothing in between it and africa some stretch of ocean uninteruppted for thousands of miles.
One day that 100 footer maybe surfed there even?.
Red bull took the big wave crew there for a film a while back but it only got to about 20 feet.
We surfed a great spot there martha livina which has sand barrels that race up and down a shallow sand beach.you can get in the tube and litterally step out off your board and run up the beach it breaks that close.Noone has drowned out there but one local has broken his neck ,but still surfs it.
