It's a bit weird as these kids are being groomed specifically to influence the future political agenda...
So they're being groomed to be more full of shit than our current politicians? ;D
Re: What's the deal with tipping in the US?
On a serious note thats kinda scary, abunch of kids with the idea that they know the way and everyone else is full of shit embeded into their head. I mean hows someone whos been guarded safely away from all the problems gonna know how to fix em? :-\
Who knows may be a good thing, they might even spawn a few Slick Willys! Not enough politicians know how to utilize a cigar nowdays...

Re: What's the deal with tipping in the US?
Y'know, American culture absolutely fascinates me.
It just seems like a place of real extremes...like there's no place for middle ground.
You're either 'anti' or 'pro' and thats it.
The UK political parties dominate the centreground but it seems like compromise is political suicide in the US.
Re: What's the deal with tipping in the US?
Yeah it's a big problem here, some people don't get the idea of being liberal about somethings and conservative about others. It's all or none, like James Toney with food. Makes it worse with celebs and athletes running their mouth with impressionable kids focused in on it.
Although I always assumed the UK and everywhere else was just as if not worse about being confrentational. What happends when you're too poor to leave the country and see what other places have to offer :(
Re: What's the deal with tipping in the US?
We're not as culturally diverse as you guys and we don't have pressure groups anywhere near as powerful. We also don't have a constitution...more a set of conventions.
Re: What's the deal with tipping in the US?
steelie dont listen to dem yankees or southerners.
we out in the west coast do it this way
at a restaurant give them 15% of the bill
doormen, a dollar or two maybe two if they don't do shiot dont give them anything.
Cabbies. we dont have much cabs here out west but when we were in NYC, I usually gave them two or three bucks. some people say 10% is proper.
when you leave your hotel, leave a little something for the cleaning lady
but don't go tipping everybody. Just the services folks
in Mexico it is out of hand. Everybody wanted a tip. This dude would sit by the sidewalk and people were parking their cars he would give directions with hand signals kind of guiding them in you know...the dumb arse white people and black people were tipping this guy, but me being the savvy super mexican basically told him to go fly a kite. I could park my own car.
another one would say I will watch the car for you and expect a tip, The nerve of that guy. I never paid it of course. I would smile at him when I came back to the car but that was that. One time I told him to look both ways before he crossed the street. That is a good tip dont cha think? That took care of that.
Re: What's the deal with tipping in the US?
save Canadian coins!!!!!
this is what I would tip car guiding parking guy!

things take time....eventually the people here will get tired of the big oil and fat cats polititions and take the government back soon...that or I'm moving to New Zealand....:)
Re: What's the deal with tipping in the US?
You would probably use a lot of oil getting to New Zealand...unless you want to go via rowboat you granola eatin sissyfied yankee.
Really these extremes in politics have been born from ages ago....Reagan's economic policy hurt lower class people, GHW Bush "read my lips no new taxes", Clinton was a smug son of a bitch and a liar, W is an idiot who never listens to anything negative...I mean sometimes you have to...you know like an intervention you don't WANT to listen but you NEED to listen, it helps you figure out what is a problem and why it's a problem.
Re: What's the deal with tipping in the US?
...oh and Jimmy Carter was a pussy
Re: What's the deal with tipping in the US?
have any of yall every worked for tips? As a one time bartender I assure you that almost my entire wage depended on the generosity of others...most waitstaff/bartenders make 2-3 dollars an hour at most..that means after an 8 hour shift the have made only 16-24 dollars. 15% for wait staff should be a starting point, and I tip 0.50-1.00 per drink. We don't have cabbies where I'm from.
Re: What's the deal with tipping in the US?
Yes, living off of tips sucks
