Didn't Max Baer lose to Braddock?? So why is he ranked higher??
For the same reason as Trevor Berbwick aint ranked above Muhammad Ali ;)
Re: Top Ten Greatest Heavyweights of all Time!
Great fighters stand out, from the turn of the century we have had Johnson, Dempsey, Louis, Marciano, Patterson, Liston, Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Holmes, Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe and as much as I hate to say it Lewis.
Those are the obvious tops but what order they go in can be interprated anyway.
Frazier and Foreman are there more because of Ali than their own merits, Frazier more so, Foreman had a relatively successfull comeback and became the oldest ever champ.

Wasn't Max Baer in his prime and champion against Braddock whereas Ali came off losing the title to Larry Holmes via retiring in 11th rd??

Thats not the reason I was referring to!!
Its about career's and not 1 fight.
Oliver McCall beat a near prime Lennox Lewis for example. When you rank greatness (at least imo) its not necessarily who beat or could beat another fighter on any given night - it's about Longjevity, career success, victims and many other factors.
Max Baer had a better career then Jimmy Braddock

Louis was a true legend, his influence goes beyond boxing, and on top of all that, he was virtually unbeatable for 10 years (1937-47), no other Heavyweight can hand on heart say that.
Holyfield may of lost the Bowe series 2/1, but his overall career was far better than Bowe. He met virtually everyone that mattered in the 90s, and the only person he did not beat was Lewis, and he was arguable 9 years past his best by then.
Re: Top Ten Greatest Heavyweights of all Time!
Misquoting me you sum bich! :boxing2:
But in terms of if they fought each other, do you think Louis could compete with guys like Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Tyson?
Re: Top Ten Greatest Heavyweights of all Time!
It sounds odd but I think Louis would have more success with the best of the bunch, Ali.
Ali struggled with a simple jab, the other fighters would overpower him

2: The Lewis who beat Tua
1: The Bowe who beat Holyfield in fight one

What does everybody else think?? I'm sure this is a debateable thread. You can argue about a few names on my list. But most of them go without saying!
Ike Ibeabuchi is a crazy crack-head
he might have been a crack head but he sure was a good boxer ;D
Re: Top Ten Greatest Heavyweights of all Time!
I'm still wondering how Golota even touched that list.
