Um well Wright has faced speed in Mosley and Power in Taylor. Calzaghe has faced power but not speed. I don't think that Calzaghe has fought someone who was faster then he was. But he's fought counter punchers, and those were the guys that dropped him... pick em fight, but I'm not sure Calzaghe wouldn't be caught in between those flurries he throws
I think Joe C is just too big....a fly can piss off an elephant for awhile ....but the elephant eventually swats that pesky fly.....:)

true, but a smart mouse always beats an big elephant ;)

Winky will lose!!!
I think Calzaghe is on a steamroller right now and someone like Winky will grease them wheels for him!!!

Joe C imo isn't too big... he isn't as strong or fast as Taylor though he throws combinations quicker and from way more angles. However I give Winky the speed advantage(maybe not in combinations but his jab would beat Calzaghe to the punch) and I think Calzaghe could have a harder time with him than the more athletic Taylor, but we'll see.
Re: Squash all the bullshat rumors! Warren wants Calzaghe vs Wright for Sept 9 or 16
Winky looked small against Taylor, no way he can hang with JC, though I hate to say it, because Winky is one of my favorite fighters... JC would just be too big and too strong. Winky would get ko'd.

Just a quick question....
Did you actually watch the JC/Lacy Fight???
I'll tell you what, JC was fast enough to not allow for Lacy to barely get off any shots....
I dont feel Winky has the speed to stay in it with someone like JC, So Winky will go back to his tap and run game....If he does this with JC, get ready for a very boring and disappointing fight...
Then it is also going to depend on the ring size, They like using those small rings over there in Europe, so that could hurt Winky if its a smaller ring....
I'll say this, If Winky tries to stand and fight, its going to be one hell of an ass woopin for Winky....

Boxingcoach eh?
Are you comparing Winky to Lacy? Have you disregarded the fact that they are both southpaws?
And all this too big too strong Winky will get KO'd talk is all pople said before the Trinidad fight and before the Taylor fight. It didn't happen.
Can you name me a southpaw that Joe has faced that had a quicker jab? Did you disregard the fact that whenever Joe throws he brings his hands back down which leaves him open for a counter shot, WHICH is what he gets caught by anyway? That in essense means that whenever Joe throws a shot Winky is going to make him pay for those low hands. Joe is open for straight shots, and I doubt that Winky like Lacy will stand there and take combinations and then expect to stop Joe Calzaghe with a one shot followup hook, Winky responds with straights or he will shoot a straight in between his shots, Calzaghe may be fast but anyone can be fast when someone decides to look for one shot instead of timing them before the attack comes. Winky would do this to Joe Calzaghe and how is Joe going to deal with that?
Re: Squash all the bullshat rumors! Warren wants Calzaghe vs Wright for Sept 9 or 16
Well,
I will say this....
Joe is the kind of fighter that diesnt worry ALOT about defense because his offense is producing it for him....
And when he feels he needs to worry about defense, he will use it and counter from that...
There is one thing I would like to add to this matter.....
What other fighter have you seen in this weight class as of late looks like Joe and still is as powerful as he is.....I think that after 19 Title defenses and 40+fights, this will be something even Winky will have to examine to see how he is going to approach it...I really dont feel that Joe is even a bit worried about the fact that Winky is a Southpaw...
Here is one last fact for you....How many fights have you seen where Joe is one to back up or run from opposition???
From most of the fights I have seen of this guy, he is in your face from the beginning of the round till the end of the round...This is pressure that I feel Winky will have trouble with...
Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that the Southpaw thingy is not even going to be an issue....Should have reminded you that, Joe is a Southpaw also!!!

Actually considering the fly might be carrying malaria, I'd say Winky has considerably less chance of beating Calzaghe than a fly has of killing an elephant.
Re: Squash all the bullshat rumors! Warren wants Calzaghe vs Wright for Sept 9 o
I think JC would win this one by stoppage, I felt Taylor could have stopped Winky if he hadn't
kept going to the ropes, going up another weight is not good 4 Winky especially to take on the divisions
best in his first fight at that weight. JC a huge supermiddle and Wrights power at that weight would have little effect on him

Nice find Wacko.
Maybe not as much dollar as Margarito, but the type of fight that Winky would relish.
Calzaghe by stoppage IMO

By Ant Evans: No-one in boxing relishes a draw but there will be two men, at least, who will be pleased that Saturday's World Middleweight Title clash between Winky Wright and champion Jermain Taylor ended in a draw. The three ringside judges in Memphis couldn't separate the pair after their exciting 12 rounds but super-middleweight king Joe Calzaghe and promoter Frank Warren could capitalise on the result.
Despite (or perhaps because of) Calzaghe's March masterclass against Jeff Lacy, Warren has struggled to find a suitably high-profile opponent for his undefeated Welsh southpaw.
The search for a July 8 foe stretched on interminably before, finally, Glen Johnson agreed to meet Calzaghe. But with Calzaghe pulling out of the fight due to his chronically injured left hand, the search begins anew, with a date of September 9 or 16 know the focus .
Warren is known to be keen on his IBF/WBO champion fighting southpaw Wright and, contrary to what has been written elsewhere, last weekend's result actually increases the chance of the fight taking place.
Had Wright have won the middleweight title in Memphis, he would have been contractually obligated to give Taylor an immediate rematch, this eliminating him from Calzaghe's September hit-list.
However, with a draw, Wright has no such obligation and has even gone on record as saying he has no desire to rematch with Taylor.
Meanwhile, Taylor and his team are already making plans for an October defense in the champ's native Little Rock, and that fight will most certainly not be against Wright.
And with the other handful of top names in the middleweight division already tied up, the most logical next step for Wright is to face Calzaghe at super-middle. It could be the pnly big fight available to the 34 year old.
Plus, Wright has fought in the UK three times before, all on Frank Warren cards.
In the mid-1990s he beat Ensley Bingham, Steve Foster and Adrian Dodson in effortless performances which gave British fans a hint of the greatness which was to come from the Florida southpaw.

Re: Squash all the bullshat rumors! Warren wants Calzaghe vs Wright for Sept 9 o
CC for your cynicism Sal, that was precisely what I was thinking. It sounds like a wonderful fight if it can be made, BUT...
This article seems to be entirely based on speculation, and I don't seem to see any quotes from Warren or Calzo suggesting that it might be legit. Even if there were quotes, it can be very easy just to type some words and put ""'s around them. As a reporter myself, I have certainly seen plenty of others caught trying to paraphrase and then getting it rather embarrasingly wrong :p
Until I see the names on my ticket, I ain't buying it. Good luck to Warren in making it though.
