You cant look at Johnson after the past 3 years and call him a journeyman...He is a legitimate Bona Fied top flight Lightheavyweight I would even say he is the #1 lightheavyweight in the world(since B-HOP is retired) and he is far from a flash in the pan, if anyone thinks Joe Calzaghe is going to have a walk in the park is saddly mistaken..Johnson is an unrelenting comeforward fighter who is rarely detered from attacking "CONSTANT PRESSURE" with decent defense and a good chin.I personally cant pick a winner to me this is a pick em fight that I look forward to

Dude the fact that you just said a Manfredo jr(an unproven hypemachine created by the contender) vs Calzaghe would be better than Johnson who is the best LIGHTHEAVYWEIGHT in the world and a champion makes me question the depth of your knowledge of the lightheavyweight, supermiddleweght, middleweight division...Glen is a very formidable and exciting opponent
* I am not discrediting Manfredo jr I just think he needs a couple more fights before he is considered a major player and if not for the contender I dont think he would have had the exposure he has now I think a MAJOR fight would be disasturuos for him if he loses he will never live it down..

:coolclick: agreed, I don't see how anyone could say Glencoffe Johnson would be a walk in the park for Joe, that is unless they've never seen him fight. Glen is relentless and experienced enough to hit from all-angles, he also has a great defence, If Joe is looking to step up from the likes of Lacy, GJ is a brilliant choice. I think this will be a close decision match with the spread for each judge being 2 points apart or less. I honestly think GJ will bring his "A" game and take a decision, just my opinion though.....

CC back at you I think they both have great strengths like everyone has mentioned...The key is to Deter Glen and I dont know if Joe Has the power, Glen has good stamina as well and can hang in for the long haul..
I just cant convince myself either way on a winner
Re: Calzaghe V Johnson <<<< in 6 months time!
Calzaghe Johnson is clearly a fight that's not destined to happen. Injurys prevented the other fights from taking place, this time it'll be....Clinton Woods? ;)
Re: Calzaghe V Johnson <<<< in 6 months time!
A good fight would've been Calzaghe and Hopkins at 168!!!
what do you guys think?

Hopkins would destroy Calzaghe at 168.
If he puts on a v. Lacy performance against GJ, I will change my mind.
Re: Calzaghe V Johnson <<<< in 6 months time!
Yeah
Clearly Hopkins would of destroyed anyone at 168.
Wonder why he didn't choose to go there his whole career ::**

Bro question my knowledge all you like... but look at the names that had been mentioned for Calzaghes next opponent. Allan Green & Yassaf Mack. Now tell me Manfredo ain't in a better class than those two. I like Glen Johnson & was glad to see him win the LH title. But hes an old veteran, sure he's still a top guy but if you saw the Adamek/ Briggs fight you know Adamek can fight. Why not fight an undefeated belt holder, or even go after the guy who beat Johnson... Tarver. Tarver would be a match tougher test than Johnson

Cause Tarver is a Flash in the pan and Hopkins exposed that...If Joe indeed wants to fight a Durable PROVEN Champion than Johnson is that guy...Didnt mean to come across harsh but Glen is a game quality Champion at Lightweight thats all I'm saying

Sweet bro, but Tarver is a two time former Light-heavyweight champion, who dethroned Johnson & Jones Jr. Thats some flash in the pan

Personally, I think Joe would take a 4-5 round points decision in this one, if it ever did come off. Even when you look back at his toughest fights, Eubank, Robin Reid, and Lacy, he's always outworked his opponents. Even if he does have to throw a thosand punches, and only 20-30% of those getting through, it's enough to beat these tough, endurable guys with big chins and big reputations. I think the way to beat Joe would be to have some massive power and handspeed that he can't dodge, and knock him out, because he throws punches from everywhere, and he's a really hard worker, and I don't see Johnson being able to match him in punches connected to take a win, so he'd have to find some way to finish the fight before the final bell. Calzaghe's chin is good as well, so he needs five or six big shots in a round to stop him, and personally, I don't think Johnson's the man for the job.
Also, I'd be quite disappointed if in his last three fights, there isn't one against the winner of Kessler v Beyer. It's all well and good chasing the american dollar, but surely legacy means soemthing as well, and while it might not pay as much, unifying the division must be high priority for those last three fights.

Well again Johnson took 1 and Tarver took the 2nd (xtremely narrow margin) and dosent want to fight Glen a 3rd time should tell you something....1st fight with Roy he got out HUstled in the Championship rounds 2nd was a 1 in a million punch he landed against Roy with his eyes closed, 3rd fight was against a gunshy Roy in which Tarver looked unimpressive and did nothing to dazzaling so thats why I call him a flash in the pan
