Lacy to Return In October

HUGE Lacy fan, outside of Taylor he's my favorite fighter. Honestly, I just remembered him saying in ESPN's weekend notebook that it will be a struggle for him to make weight in time for an October fight. I still see this being a good fight. And Lacy has boxing skills, he just can't really defend all that great.

I agree with all of this except the "skill" part. I've yet to see it. He looked tremendously flawed to me in all of his pre-Calzaghe fights--wild, horrible defense, stalking without throwing the jab, etc.--it's just that he was up against guys who couldn't take advantage, and he was always able to land enough big (and sometimes lucky) shots to hurt or KO opponents. The SMW division is exceptionally weak, what can I say.

Even with that in mind though, I agree he choked against JC. I don't think he could have won anyway, but he just hardly even threw a punch in that fight. It was like Vargas's "style" against Mosely--following the other guy around the ring like you're walking him down, but just letting him hit you the whole time and never unloading yourself. Granted, he did plenty of this in earlier fights too, but against JC it was weird and extreme.

He is very likeable and has a lot of heart though, and I'd love to see him improve and start winning again.

Lacy...'likeable'? Are we talking about the same boxer here, he walked into the UK with a cocky, arrogant manner telling everyone how he was going to knock Calzaghe out in 4. He did the talkin but not the walkin, enjoyed every minute of his beating off Joe :)

Lacy reminds me of a post-prime Tyson, always looking for that one big punch to stun his opponent or floor them, too bad calzaghe was too fast and experienced to be caugh by the 'left-hook'...

All i would like to say is, the reason why i think is defense aint as bad as ppl are making it out to be is cos of the way he fights. A pressure fighter like lacy has to have a good. Trust me on this i am also a pressure fighter. having shit defense is suicide!

Against calzaghe, joe peppers you with loads of shots, some get through. he throws fast punches so for lacy to counter is difficult. He had a tight guard, joe had him on the defensive ( making lacy cover up ) from round 1!

all i am saying is that the guy has a orite defense, nothing great ofcourse. after the calzaghe fight everyone seem to diss him about his defense!

he still needs to improve his footwork and defense.

So he had a little promotion-time confidence and swagger leading in to the fight. So what? It's not like he was going Mayorga-style and insulting Calzaghe personally. Or being a total asshole like Judah was to Baldomir before losing that fight. And all the while, he was very appreciative that Calzaghe agreed to the fight. I think you're being way too sensitive.

And then he didn't bring a bunch of bullshit after he was totally humiliated--no excuses or anything, and all respect to JC. I don't know--he seems pretty likeable to me. It's just too bad he's not a better boxer, so we could have seen if JC was really the real deal.

He was going on how JC is a girl who slaps. He must slap pretty hard to leave the damage that he did on Lacy's face.

Well hopefully now that the US doors are actually 'open' to JC we well get to see if he is the real deal.
