HAHA! So many Oscar haters. I love Roy as a boxer...but for anyone to call Oscar arrogant and big-headed when comparing him to RJJ is ridiculous. Lets not forget...Roy still talks about himself in third person.

Oscar is just angry cause god gave him chicken legs
and when you're that good, arrogance is tolerable :)Quote:

RJJ is just jealous of Oscar, he always has been. He should be angry at HBO.
I would actually pay to see these two go at it but unfortuately Oscar is the one that would back out if challengd to back his words.
You and a lot of others hated Roy for his act. He wasn't truly arrogant and offensive, not when he backed it up every single time. And he never disrespected older fighters of legends like a young asshole named Cassius Clay did. I never saw Roy torturing and taunting an old Mike Mccallum like Clay did to Floyd Patterson. Or discrediting Bob Foster like Clay did to Joe Louis. Roy was the greatest fighter who ever lived and he could afford to brag. Yes he got humbled and maybe he needed it, but I always took his bragging with a grain of salt. It was never malicious.Quote:

this may sound cheezy, but when i was at the RJJ vs John Ruiz fight at the thomas and mack center that night RJJ gave me alot of hope and inspiration, cause i was going thru some BS at the time. RJJ a former middle weight champ going all the way up to HW to win the belt really inspired me got me through what i was going thru at the time. After seeing his performance with my own eyes sitting there with a stadium full of fans I say RJJ can say and do whatever the F he wants even if it may be percieved as being arrogant or cocky. that night he could be the cockiest man on the planet and deserved to be!
. CC good read . You make a valid points. No doubt Roy was clearly the best at that point in time. Invincible if you will , but for me personally he got on my nerves, it was his arrogance, how he acted and respond to questions. . So as much as I appreciated his talent and still do, I wanted him to get caught and knocked out by someone during his dormant reign as Champion. I remember thinking I would like him better after he gets beat . Some of his fights were so boring because they were so lopsided, Jones would just wait and counter wait and counter, very effective indeed , but kind of boring to watch from a fight fan perspective. and by Roy’s own admission he did not want to take chances , with his talent he rarely had too . However the by product was often a stale boring lopsided 12 R fight. Thus the fight fans were drawn more towards the Gatti’s and the Delyhoya’s leaving Roy Jones arguably the Best fighter of all time with a lower fan base than should have been the case . I think Roy had the talent to be more crowd pleasing , but he chose to error on the side of caution.Quote:

I could care less for eother one of them but truth be told...DLH has always sought out the best and Jones has always sought out the safest....As for Oscars comments on Roy being KO'd and it never happening toI think that was to prove a point that though DLH may have lost some fights he was man enough to take a loss while Jones spent more time ducking opp than proving his worth
actually no, Oscar was never dominated, a fat bloated DLH IMO lost to Sturm but it was close, you could even argue for it to be a draw, Hopkins he won basically the first 5 or 6 rounds and then Hopkins, the naturally bigger man then imposed his strength and gradually took out DLH, Mosley in no way dominated, the first fight was very competitive and Mosley although he won clearly it wasn't by much, the second fight DLH clearly won and was robbed big time. Wanna bring up the Jones beating Hopkins, yea he did, he beat the Bernard Hopkins of ten years ago, not the P4P king of the middleweight division that easily dominated both men that have KO'd Jones. Jones would have lost his third fight against Tarver by KO also he was just lucky that Tarver got over anxious and fell through the ropes.Quote:

Oscar has been dominated by Mosley, it was even. And then Oscar lost 6 rounds in a row, that's not being dominated ???
The Felix Sturn DLH fight WASN'T close. Sturm dominated DLH pretty easily. And Oscar got handed a decision he didn't deserve, can you name me one fight Roy had in which he got handed a decision he didn't deserve? If you want to bring up the Firts Tarver fight(which Roy won clearly) he dominated the last 3 rounds when faced with adversity, and what did DLH do? ran....
And you say Roy was lucky not to get knocked out by Tarver in the third fight? If Tarver hadn't fell over the ropes that Roy would have been KO'd? Well then if Quartey and Whitaker wouldn't have been robbed, then Oscar would have 2 more losses wouldn't he?
So what if it was the Hopkins of 10 years ago? Fact is the fight was 10 YEARS AGO!! And Roy(for a supposed glass chin) took Hopkins best shots at a time when Hopkins fought a style that went for the knockout each and every round. Do you think Hopkins would have ever outboxed Roy Jones jr? Remember it was the Roy Jones Jr of 10 years ago too, Roy was as finished a product as Hopkins was and both didn't hit their style peak until later on.
Roy took Hopkins best shots and didn't fall, and Oscar got knocked out.
And like I said, nobody questioned Roy or thought he threw his knockout losses. People question DLH's because of the shot from Hopkins. And I've never seen Roy run from an opponent, he may have not traded with them 24/7 but he never ran. Oscar ran and won decisions by running.
I respect DLH much more than I do Jones. Sure Jones was the better fighter but DLH seemed to do a lot more for the fans than Roy. Oscar took on a lot of big fights, when for the last few years Jones feasted on creampuffs. Roy was a real talent but didn't always put himself against the best challenges out there.
Roy fought and beat much better fighters than Oscar did period. And to answer Samson 3000, if Roy's arrogance had been malicious would I have still been a fan? Well I'm a HUGE Mayorga and Toney fan, so WTF do you think? ;DQuote:
