Okay then...we'll do.
We'll rule that out. So when he TKO'd Craig Houk in 3 rounds for the WBC International Light Welterweight Title & then defended it 15 times until losing to Kostya over 12 rounds...well...that speaks enough right?
No matter how Wack they are at times...Boxrec can be a good tool on previous accomplishments. ::**
The guy's a worthy fighter...even if he did lose to two up & coming champions.
Re: Cotto Vs Urkal ...for hatton's vacant WBA Welter belt
Cotto is doing the smart thing, fighting a decent fighter to get used to the weight and then settling in. It's smart,I expected nothing less. I prefer it to Hatton's strategy of jumping in at the deep end straight away, een though he won,it backfired. I expect Cotto's following assignment at 147 to be tougher for sure.
Re: Cotto Vs Urkal ...for hatton's vacant WBA Welter belt
Sorry folks...had to correct myself there... ;D

Puh-leeze!
Atleast Urkal has fought a live body or two on his way up & he's defended his title a few times to boot.
Urango was gifted his title & he hasn't fought a live body other than Ben Rabah & we all saw that bullshit robbery.
It's nowhere near as bad. Cotto's fighting something other than a hype machine. ::**
I'm not going to argue that Urkal hasn't had the better career, of course he has, but at least Urango has a puncher's chance, I can't envision anyway that Urkal wins.
Thats the problem. From a fans point of view Urkal was a crap fight for Hatton and he's a crap fight for Cotto cause theres no way of seeing him winning.
Re: Cotto Vs Urkal ...for hatton's vacant WBA Welter belt
The difference Fenster bro is that whereas Hatton kept going on about securing his legacy with the big fights etc and then contemplated fighting Urkal, thats what made it bad for him whereas Cotto is younger,he's moving up and can bide his time.I#m not saying it is a great fight by any means but I don't think it is as bad for Miguel as it is for Ricky. I think that makes sense?

Yes it does make sense. But thats why I said from a fans perspective. Its not a 50/50 fight and we could end up with Hatton fighting Urango and Cotto fighting Urkal when I'm sure we would all love to see Hatton fighting Cotto. ;)
Re: Cotto Vs Urkal ...for hatton's vacant WBA Welter belt
I also think the Urkal fight is more intriguing from a Cotto perspective because we want to see how he fares at the new weight(can he handle it,is his power there etc) whereas with Ricky,we wanted him to give Collazo a rematch and fighting Urakl would have been a step back.
I totally agree where you are coming from on the Hatton-Cotto front,I cannot speak for Hatton but Cotto has said he would certainly fight him if the fight could be made.

Utter bollocks. Saying nothing about how difficult the EBU title can be to hold on to it gets the holder a very healthy ranking with the WBC.

Thank you!!! :coolclick:
It's easy to say that a title means nothing to the world & the fighter wearing it when your'e not the one that fought for it & earned it.
Not just you Dan...anyone. IWO, every title means something to somebody somewhere down the line. Especially the fighter that defends/wears it.

What title has Urkal defended?  He's never been champion, before.
European EBU title babe.
Won it, defended it, if I am not mistaken...he still has it...either that or he vacated it for a defense against someone...I can't remember who.
Also...just checked boxrec to be sure...at Light Welter he was also a belt holder & he had & defended the WBC International Light Welterweight title on top of defending the European (EBU) Light Welterweight Title.
Currently...they show that he is titleless stateside in the U.S.
Those ain't titles you brag about.  EBU?  Damn, and I taught the WBO was bottom of the barrel.
Re: Cotto Vs Urkal ...for hatton's vacant WBA Welter belt
I thought the EBU was the European version of the NABA, NABO, etc. Just a prelim belt that helped a fighter get a better ranking.

Spot on - Hatton's team screwed his foray into 147.
They had him tooo heavy (lost his zap and movement) against a southpaw (he struggles badly against southies) and abroad at 4am (UK time).
That was a perfect example of an amatuer team almost scrambling Hatton's dreams by mixing all the wrong ingredients into his debut.
The worst thing is, Ricky could hang at 147 - but this put him right off.
At least Cotto is being matched well (if not excitingly :( )

You are right of course, I'm sure Audley Harrison cherishes his WBU Heavyweight World Title belt :-X
