Re: If you had to give out awards right now..............
I vote Bernard Hopkins.
Brewster Lyakovich for foty
Upset of the year...
Calzaghe beating Lacy(in the fashion he did) As far as unexpectedness.
And in some ways Quintana beating Julio
But there really wasn't a true upset of the year..
Was the In Jin Chi loss this year? If it was then THAT is upset of the year
Nobody else made history this year on the level he did

FOTY: Vasquez-Gonzalez cause of the caliber of fighters & the meaning of the fight.
Upset OTY: Baldomir-Zab
P4P FOTY: PAC
FOTY: Arthur Abraham
Come Back FOTY: Kassim Ouma
FOTY- Aurthur Abraham :o He survived a beat down, but fighter of the year???? Intresting choice Mick . I am usually on par with you, but i don't get this one.. That Miranda fight was a horrible watch. both fighters fighting like assholes. and neither fighter looked sharp. Abraham was lunging wild from the start and mostly running for most of the fight.
IMO fighter of the year is not entirely based on the style in which you won a fight but more on what you did for the particular year. In this case Abraham defended his newly owned IBF belt 3 times against very good opponents.
He first beat S. Taylor not world class but a decent fighter, he then beat Jantuah and finished off the year defending his belt against Miranda a highly regarded fighter.
Also keep in mind that this is up until today I have Baldomir in that spot too, if he can finish off the year wining it's his spot no questions asked. I also have the winner of Wladdy & Brock for the spot of FOTY but that can't be determined till after they fight. Thats why this is up and till today. I don't see any other fighter out there that doesn't have a *pending fight that can be put in place for Abraham who wont be fighting this year anymore.
Thats how I came up with Abraham.
Fair enough ! Thanks for taking the time to explain it to me ! #644

Re: If you had to give out awards right now..............
Great thread killersheep :coolclick:
Fight of the year for me has to be Abraham vs Miranda, never have I winced so much during a fight, absolutely brutal.
The Gonzalez Vasquez fight I didn't really think was anything special, dull Barrera style shut out for 6 rounds or so, then once Vasquez came through Gonzalez corner pulled him out just as it was getting interesting.
By contrast the Abraham Miranda fight, they forced their fighter to keep fighting even though the doctor declared him unfit to fight, far more exciting :P
Upset of the year has to be Baldomir vs Judah. Before the fight nobody was even discussing the possibilty of an upset, everyone was just looking forward to Judah vs Mayweather. Quintana was very highly rated within boxing circles just not well known to ordinary fans, even before the fight the commentators were saying it would only be a mild upset if he beat the heaviliy hyped Julio. I have to admit though I personally thought Julio would kick his ass, but then I'd never heard of Quintana before that fight!
For fighter of the year I am going to go with Baldimor, he came from nowhere to establish himself as the man to beat at 147lb. Lets be honest how many of us had even heard of him before January this year when he was lined up to face Zab? Now he's the Ring champion at welterweight! He probably won't be after December but you said who wins the award right now, so Baldy is the choice for me :P
Re: If you had to give out awards right now..............
Great thread.CC
Fight of the year, for me Monshipur v Sithchatchawal. Insane action,I have never in my entire life seen soooo many uppercuts being thrown!!
Fighter of the year for me is Pacman, tko over Morales and pounding Larios is impressive and if he beats EM again,he's sealed it. A close second has to be Baldo,a true Cinderella man type story.
Upset of the year:clearly Baldo and Zab. Zab is superior in everyway possible and lost. Close seconds are Martin Castillo, and Joel Julio for me ALTHOUGH those in the know said Quintana would school him.
