Re: Calzaghe-Kessler: If it happens, who wins?
Common sense dictates that Beyer aint Calzaghe & a lot of people are leaping to judgements world wide now because Kess blasted out Beyer & Joe went 12 with Bika.
#1: Let's not forget Bika was beating Beyer when they fought...so it's hard to get to stoked on the 3rd round ko...even though I was pleased as fwock.
#2: Simply put...again, Beyer & Calzaghe are two leagues apart in all aspects...Kess'd have some trouble with Joe's speed.
#3: Joe's output could put a damper on Kessler's power.
All that being said. I'd like to see Joe unify becaues I'm a big fan of the man...but then again...I'm a huge Kessler fan...so I wouldn't mind him winning either.
So...in Kess's favor...
#1: Power & youth baby! Nuff said.
#2: Kess get's his jab going...Joe's fwocked. That jab would stop Calzaghe's flurries in his tracks.
#3: The biggest factor I think? Joe himself. Let him show up to fight the Dane half assed motivated like he did Bika & Joe is counting bulbs for the rest of the evening.
Sorry people...I wanna say that it's gonna be a pick em...but I'm leaning towards Joe & almost kinda hoping for disappointment...I'd love to see a Kessler win or maybe a draw.
I still say that Joe pulls it out.

:coolclick: Agreed.
Age will become a factor for Joe & he could get old in 2-3 rounds if Kess catches him correctly...but I just don't wanna put my eggs in a basket that has a whole in it.
Re: Calzaghe-Kessler: If it happens, who wins?
As other people said beyer is not joe, so the weekends fights don't mean jack. I think calzaghe beats kessler as long as he fights a smart fight and stays focused. He looks to me much quicker than kessler, kessler might have more power, but what's power matter if the other guy has a rock solid chin and enough speed to escape plenty of your punches. I take joe by late stopage or comfortable ud.

I might lean towards Kessler.
So do I. I saw the Kessler-Beyer fight - and Beyer was miles away. He couldn“t even spoil the match as he usually does when up against stronger fighters. The very minute Beyer tried to fight he was hammered down. I have followed Kessler since his debut 8 years ago - and he just keep getting better. Calzaghe is a great fighter - up to saturday night perhaps the best in the world. But not any longer. And as a boxingfan it sounds ridicolous to even consider Hopkins as an alternative??? To those of you who thinks that Kessler is clumsy or slow - you couldnt be more wrong. The longer Calzaghe avoids Kessler the more unlikely a Calzaghe-win will be. Be a man Calzaghe - and give us the fight we deserve!
Re: Calzaghe-Kessler: If it happens, who wins?
im going with calzaghe. he wasnt at his best in the bika fight but he will train hard for this guy. that will be a good fight
Re: Calzaghe-Kessler: If it happens, who wins?
saw the Kessler fight on youtube. Something about him just doesn't seem right. I don't think he's ready for Calzaghe.

If you check the threads back in late '04 begining of '05 I created a thread about fighters that I felt were the future of the boxing world in my list I had: 'Bad' Chad Dawson, Steven Luevano, Librado Andrade, Giovani Segura, Mikkel Kessler, Jose Navarro and others.
Anyway my point is I've always felt Kessler has the goods and I aint lying if you think I'm lying search back and you'll find the thread.
Kessler is just such a physical fighters and goes forward, IMO Kessler would be toooo much for Joe I really think Kessler can stop Joe. No doubt about it, I can assure you IF Joe decides to do that whole tauting and how he puts his hands to the side really low hes gonna be a done deal. I bet he doesnt do that with Kessler.
So I voted Kessler mid-way stoppage rd. 6-8.
Cc. I agree with pretty much all your points. Except that I think Kessler would stop him in 4 or 5 rounds
Back at 'ya.
cc.
At 1st my instincts told me early stoppage but then I figured Joe would get on his bike and pedal not only that but pedal backwards. So I said he would probably get away with that for about half of the fight 'till Kessler catches up with him.
Bike? Calzaghe doesn't know what backwards means. 40 plus fights and barely a backwards step. Have you seen hime fight?
Yeah I watched Kessler on youtube too. It's painfully obvious he can't outbox Calzaghe. He didn't throw anything but jabs and crosses. He looks very big and obviously has a punchers chance against anyone but he has slow feet and would be an easy target for Calzaghe. I'm convinced that this is a carbon copy of the Lacy fight. A better fight would be Bika Kessler would love to see that.
I honestly only see Calzaghe having problems with Taylor and Wright (that hand would never stand up to pounding Winkys arms and elbows) and neither of those will happen.
Kessler then Hopkins then Taylor or Wright then retire Joe.

Re: Calzaghe-Kessler: If it happens, who wins?
I'll get excited about him beating Beyer with a one punch knock down... when a time machine is created that removes the period in History when Bika was beating Beyer until the fight was stopped because Beyer was cut.
Re: Calzaghe-Kessler: If it happens, who wins?
Right on.
Not jumping on any 'Bika is suddenly great since he gave Joe a tough night bandwagon'. If Bika's so s**t lets see how many of the supermiddles fancy a piece of him now.
Re: Calzaghe-Kessler: If it happens, who wins?
I still give Joe the edge even after his average showing and Kessler's impressive showing this weekend. I will never write Joe off after after i have learnt my lesson!

I agree with you, the Kessler's jab will give him a chance. Joe is faster, he has better D, and has more available weapons, but I'm a big believer in the power of a good jab. I just watched the Beyer fight tonight, and that KO was classic. The right might have done the damage, but that constant stiff jab set it up. That being said...
Beyer is stiff. He doesn't move at all. He's slow as hell. He isn't creative. Peter Manfredo Jr. would beat him. Seriously.
Unless Joe breaks his hand, I think he beats Kessler. If Joe's hand isn't 100%, but he won't have the power to keep Kessler off him. Joe can't beat him one handed.
Re: Calzaghe-Kessler: If it happens, who wins?
Honestly I change my mind every other day on this fight
I do think Joe's open for Kessler's jab and straight right, but how will Kessler react to Joe's speed and activity?
And is Joe slowing down? If not now he might be by the time this fight gets made.
Kessler is more conservative and takes less risks, but will Joe tighten up for Kessler, probably so. I don't expect the wildness of the Bika fight in a Kessler fight.
Maybe Joe. Of course on page one I said maybe Kessler ;D

Good post. Joe should win but you're right he'll have trouble with Kessler. I seen Kessler only a few times but he has what it takes to beat a southpaw like JC. The way to neutralize speed is with a good jab, especially a southpaw. After hypnotizing Joe with the jab comes the hard right. From what I seen Kessler's right is something not to mess with. Like they say, styles make fights and I think Kessler has the style to beat JC.
