:appl: Great topic......Great things you mentioned....
1.Regular TV--When I first started watching Boxing if the fight was big it was on ABC
2.Rankings-They should be based on quality of opp...too many guys with padded records.....
3.IMO...Champions should only fight guys ranked 5th or higher...
4. Everyone seems to be in agreement with the fact champions need to defend more often....
5.My personal beliefe a Champion should be made to defend his title in a different country every other defense
6.Ring Card Girls should wear less clothing ( my wife would never let me watch the sport again lol)
7. Again IMO if you are getting paid 5 milllion to defend your title you should not be allowed to keep saing no to defenses because you feel you should get more....Extras should be arranged by promoters in other ways..EG make the fighter wear an advertisement on his jacket or something it is their job to make money not stop fights because of lack of millions after you are making millions (Jones was famous for this against top opponents...He always demanded crazy amounts in his favor)
8. If a champion does not defend against his mandatory not only should he be stripped but fined
just my 2 cents
Be warned... This is a JimBoogie special
Apologies will not be made 8)
I think the best way to sort the whole rankings system is to incorporate the advantages of an already implemented geographical ranking system (NABF, EUROPEAN, COMMONWEALTH, AFRICAN ETC..) with Larger bodies fragmenting to more localised regions (NABF, to mid-west, East coast, West blah blah)
Also they should define a clear progression between geographical expansions (to make clear that to compete with the best in the US, you must first compete with the best in your region).
There should be pools, or seeds within the ranked leagues inherently set initiated.
For example, Pool 1, 2 & 3 within in the European ranks.
Pool 1 can fight Pool 1 fighters from the other Geographical regions and hence compete for a title (More on that later)
Pool 2 should fight within their own regional system for the right to progress in terms of ranking but can fight other pool2 fighter’s form other regions for cash or fan base (Fighters on the slide).
Pool 3 fighters are fighting for the right to stay in that league (Could be relegated from Mid-West, back to state, or from African back to West African). But they, if they wish to be mere Journeymen, can fight other Pool 3 fighters from different regions.
There should be a small allowance (1:3 or 1:4) of non-ranked fights per ranked fights to try and abolish stale progression.
Working from the bottom up... Each fighter should pay a fee to enter his or her designated league. In turn the superior league should pay a small fee for the privilege of obtaining a new or reformed talent (also, any relegated fighters should pay a fee to the league they left.)
In theory this would work, as all fights made will have a percentage of the gate made ready for the appropriate league.
Cross-Regional fights take place amongst the elite of each region. For the right to fight form the world championship.
The world championship is infact funded from the bottom, up, as all smaller regional leagues and also the fighters/ Promoters/ Cable networks that compete with in the World league itself pay a flat fee to be a part of it.
In regards to default ranking, i.e. when the whole system starts from scratch. Ranking, as has been stated before, will be a balanced ration between Career record, Progressive quality of opponent, and ring experience.
Any fighters entering at the very beginning will be marked on their amateur successes.
The World Championship is something that could exist, as the Current Sanctioning bodies have no control over the likes of The NABF, British, European, or any other geographical Body.
If every geographical body had some kind of initial financial input to assist an already financialy strong organisation, the idea of a more geographical ranking system could be made a reality ;D
Of course this is a one bloody hell of a long shot but its more than fesable... All it needs is a slight revision in the rankings and one lad with a bright spark and a shit load of money to invest ;)
Wha'dya think folks?
Get rid of the alphabet organizations
Accoumtability for bad judging and refereeing
A pension plan, etc., for boxers like other pro athletes have (MLB, NFL, etc.)
Get rid of that silly amateur scoring system
No draws, fight an extra round until a decision is made
Put pro boxing back on free network tv
Get olympic boxing back on prime time instead of televising it on some obscure network at 3 a.m.
Make me ruler of the entire world (Hey, I got as much of a chance at that as getting the aforementioned things done)
Very strong pointsQuote:

We can have one in every division. Wer can get the top 30 in the world to run into the ring and whatnot. O0 man that would be so ridiculous. It'd take forever.Quote:

a judge on each side of the ring and give the ref a say as well, so you get 5 scores.
Make it mandatory that the different sanctioning groups have their champions fight each other.
Let's be honest the alphabet isn't goin anywhere.
defenses would go for say IBF
Champion vs.
1) Mandatory (IBF)
2) someone else in the top 5 on their sanctioning group (IBF)
3) A different sanctioning groups champion (WBO)
4) Mandatory (IBF)
5) Mandatory in new sanctioning group (WBO)
6) A different sanctioning groups champion (WBC)
7) mandatory (IBF)
8) mandatory in 2nd sanctioning group (WBO)
9) mandatory in 3rd sanctioning group (WBC)
10) Final Sanctioning group champion. (WBA)
At this point we would have a clearly defined champion for each weight class.
I also think that anyone ranked in the top 10 should be required to fight 3 times a year
1) free contract.
2) someone ranked up to 5 places higher.
3) someone ranked down to 5 places lower.
